View Full Version : Round 21 Ins and outs

In: Giansiracusa, Montgomery
Out: Addison and ?????
Assume we will need Wight to counter the tall Saints forwards, so will it be one of Birss or Faulkner?
And looking ahead, who makes way for Eagleton and Baird when they are fit (Rd22 or first final)?

I don't think Eagleton should be an automatic starter. He hasn't shown enough in the 2nd half of the season. He still goes missing when we are under pressure. Faulkner or Birss deserve to keep their spots.
I'd definitely keep Faulkner in there. Remember his game against the Saints at the G last year? He was like a pinball bouncing off the Saints midfield unti he got injured.

Not sure who will come in...Eade did say in his press conference that Gia and Montgomery should be ok...but he wasn't sure whether they would come in because they had been out of the game for 4 or so weeks and that perhaps they might come back via a stint at Werribee...but I think that probably is only Eade playing tactics can't invision Gia playing at the Bees for a week if he is fit and ready to go.

Monty is another week off is he not?
So: Gia for Addison
Longer term Re: Baird, Eagle & Monty:
Monty for Wight
Birss' present form Vs Eagles past form
Faulkners present form Vs Baird's past form
Allows for a smidge of depth.
I had a chat with Gia at the Richmond Game. I asked when he was coming back and he replied "Round 21". So looking to seeing our future captain back causing havoc.
Would be great to see Monty back too.
Faulkner and Birss should stay on the side. Eagleton needs to prove his worth in the side as far as I am concerned, had not done enough so far.

Argument of height for having at least one of Baird or Wight in the side?

Monty plays just as tall. A finals fit and experienced Monty is probably better than the other 2 options.

If Gian is fit, he will play. Eade will want him to get some game experience in.
Lets think match ups - If hamill comes back in then surely monty would be a great match up for him???
Birss didnt show much yesterday.
Addison had a good first game but it is a crunch game and i cant see him playing.
SO...
INS: Gian, Monty
OUTS: Birss, Addison

Birss didn't have a great game yesterday and looks like he is playing under duress.
I suspect that only Gia will come back next week, and Monty will be played at Werribee for a week, or given an extra week.
In: Gia
Out: Birss/Addison (depending on how Birss pulls up this week)
always right

I agree Eagle has been inconsistent but his best causes problems for other sides. He's also been tagged pretty heavily this year so when he doesn't play, this allows the opposition to put their tagger on another bulldogs player. Sometimes you need to look further than a player's latest form.
Our best side must have Eagle and Gia in it and Monty can play tall. Somehow I think someone out of Wight, Birss and Faulkner are going to be pretty unlucky come finals time. I'd love to find a way for Faulkner to stay in.

Not Birss's fault he hardly got a run.
For me Wight looked lost at times. Still can't read the play that well.
Addison and Wight and the candidates to lose their spots, if they change any at all.

Anyone who would suggest that the side would not be better off with Gia, Monty and Eagleton ahead of the likes of Birss, Faulkiner, Addison, Wight is nuts.
Just looked at the ladder predicter on AFL web site, and I think the dogs might be better off winning only one more game anyway. Two wins, and I reckon its a Perth final, if Collingwood keep winning against crap sides.
Not that anyone would throw a game, but leaving out Gia and/or Monty would suggest that the win is not that important.

Basing your logic on what exactly? If we only win one remaining game, the chances of us finishing eighth and playing away to Fremantle at Subiaco must be pretty good. Win both games and I have no doubt we'll finish 5th. I'm guessing Melbourne will lose its remaining two games.

OK - not sure what I was smokin'
Just worked through it again and got a different result!!
There are so many 50/50 results in the last 2 weeks, its impossible to work out.
I just plugged in a scenario where the team higher on the ladder wins every match (which I realise wont happen) and ended up with Coll (5th) v Dogs (8th) and I'd love nothing more than to send the Pies packing in an elimination final in front of 90,000 morons

That would be fantastic. A packed MCG first week of the finals against the pies.

Good effort for Monty - got shunted off to Port by the Dogs, won a premiership and has returned to be part of an exciting finals bound team.
He should be pretty happy with the way things have turned out.
Wonder if he will go around again next year?

Anyone else remember Monty's game for Port against that useless Luke Penny in one of his early games for us?
Penny, while so much taller was witless and Monty killed him.

Round 21 Gia for Addison
Round 22 Monty for Birss, Baird for Wight
1st Final Eagle for Faulkner
I think come finals time Baid will be of more use than Wight. Cam goes alright back there, but we need scoring options and Baird gives us another one. Eagleton should play, as was said he has been tagged this year and he will take the heat off one of our other midfielders.

So you're dropping Briss and Wight for round 22 when you haven't even seen them play round 21?
We play faulkner for 5 weeks only to drop him for the finals?

Not dropping them on form, but when you have good/valuable players coming back someone has to give way. Just working on the last in first out policy.
Would you rather have Birss, Wight, and Faulkner or Gia, Monty and Eagle in the side?

Giansiracusa - In
Addison - Out
that will be all for now. The only other players that will come back and play finals will be Eagle and Monty - possibly Higgins if he can get himself up but it's not looking too likely. I wouldn't really expect Baird to come back in, sadly for him, bcos he was playing some decent football.

Anyone who gets dropped from the team that earns the best home and away win in the playing and coaching career of a bloke who played in multiple premierships and has coached to a grand final is pretty stiff. I'm tipping Addison, sorry f.....g Adison, who wears his jumper with pride, sorry, who wears his f.....g jumper with f.....g pride, will get his second game.

If we weren't playing St Kilda it would be Wight out, Gia in...and i want to stress that, but bcos of the need for height this week it will cost the lad. Loved his work ethic and the things that Johnno said - the playing group obviously respect him a lot and like his attitude.

It may be Gia in and Birss out, given that Birss is still carrying some injury and Addison is taller than Birss and has loads of pace.
Wight should hold his place, given the talls St Kilda has.

On what basis would you play a 2nd game ahead of a premiership player when a finals spot is on the line???
St.Kilda would **** themselves laughing.

well first i dont think both gia and monty would come in after such a gr8 win.
gia is in our top 10 player on our list imo and i would have him in ahead of monty.
as for who to leave out its a hard one both birss and addison havent done much wrong, but i do like what i seen from addison and friday nights game will be a big test for him (as close to finals as possible) and i'd rather see what he can do/not do in this game rather then the finals

\birss and addison havent done much wrong
Birss and Addison haven't actually done much at all.
Birss had 1 kick last week.
Addison averages 7 kicks a game at Werribee and only got a game last week because there was no one left.
Last week was a good win, but it was one win. Playing these guys ahead of experienced players wreaks of cockiness.
Just one week ago, there were real doubts that the dogs would win another game for the rest of the season. Addison is the saviour is he?

Addison's found himself in an unfortunate situation.
I hope he plays on Friday, as stats don't tell the whole story.
Last week his one percenters were sensational for a first gamer. You could tell he wanted to be there. If they put them on the stats sheet his game would look far more impressive.
Yay!! Gia is back, montgomery a maybe.
I'd like to see Addison given another crack, Birss to go.

I would be staggered if Guido came back through the twos.If he is fit then he will play IMO. Gives us an extra option in a few different roles.Knows the forward set up well enough to take a heap of pressure off Robbins and Johnson by giving us that extra option.Very smart leader when forward and will attract the ball so fitness isn't as much of an issue with him as he does not need to play midfield. My main concern is him having a relapse but that will happen whether he is at Werribee or in the 1sts.

I'm surprised to see 2 guys who haven't played for over a month come straight back in.
However, perhaps Eade just wants to get them at their peak by finals time.
I'd love us to win the next 2 games and go into September on the back of some decent form.
If someone from the cheer squad is on bigfooty they may be able to tell us whether both Gia & Monty are playing, because they would have made the banner acknowledging both of their milestones if they are playing.
