Very average today, richmond arent even any good!! We may as well pull the pin on this season take our pick 17 try a few kids and take gibbs and pre season draft 1.
I actually held out a semblance of hope when I saw the quarter-time score.
I havn't watched the game yet, was at a family function .
I'll watch the replay shortly, I think.
But by the sound of things it is embarrassing.
I was talking to my uncle who Apparently knows some people in the inner sanctum of Carlton. Not that this may be breaking news but rumour (before anyone bites my head off, just passing on what I've heard and I don't know how reliable it is) has it that Smorgon does not like Pagan too much and is trying to get him out, and is also working hard to get Silvagni back into the club.
Just thought I'd pass on what I've been told, can't guarantee the factuals behind it.

Getting embarrissing? Its been embarrissing for a long long time now.
You guys still have a very young list and a lot of talent coming through. Patience is a virtue. Hopefully we can see some good battles between our sides in the future! I don't think we've had a game recently we're we've both been top 8 contenders in quite awhile. Interstate sides destroying the spirit of the competition. :(

Stick with it people. This is our fourth year of a five year sentence.

I feel sorry for Gibbs i really do. Our club has stagnated so badly that the smell is becoming almost unbearable.
On todays "effort" we are still at least 3 years from playing finals footy, so for the next 3 years he will get to run around like headless chook lacking direction and picking up all those Carlton bad habits.
Did anyone see a Carlton player sheppard today? Most of our team seem to believe that once you have disposed of the ball your job is done. What the F are they doing at training all week?
seriously a well known coach once said "I have had a gutful!" well thank god there are only 2 games to go because i am nearly ready to spew my guts up big time.

\What was the crime? Paganism?
The boys I guess don't give a hoot!!!
Who on Earth is there inspiring them??? Do they need Kernahan every week giving them a speech?
Where is the god forsaken passion!!!!! It's criminal what crud these boys are starting to show after so much promise.
I hope they enjoy being called a bunch of weak spooners, because if they don't show something in the next 2 the whole AFL community will be calling them that.

If Richmond beat Essendon Saturday night, I hope Sticks gives the boys a talking too Sunday in a last ditch effort to get off the bottom.
If they thought Sticks was emotional against Melbourne, he may just get physical before or during the Pies game.

I would say it was the perfect case of the team dropping their heads in the 2nd quarter after a few goals were kicked against them.
They started well in the 1st quarter but didn't take advantage of the opportunities they were given. Should have been more than 5 points infront if you ask me. From here on it was all downhill though, except for a 4 goal run in the last 10 mins of the third quarter.
Very disappointing which pretty much sums up our season. Promise so much, deliver very little :thumbsd:

Its about time we all took stock and held up for a minute.
It's ultra disappointing the result today, beating Melbourne two weeks ago, a draw against Essendon, two reasonable quarters againts Hawthorn and a descent first quarter today.
First picks in the national draft only go too bottom teams, not a team like Adelaide or West Coast, sure more have greater perceived hope than others, but no point talking about grand finals and finals at all.
Lets simplify it and focus on creating a squad that's capable of taking the team week in week out into a competitive game, the rest follows.
I am sure if you were Gibbs and looked into Carltons list that there maybe some hope if you felt you were lining up next year with such players as Murphy, Kennedy, Russell, Blackwell, Simpson, Fevola etc
Sure, there are better players at other teams, but a midfield of Scotland, (fit / committed) Stevens, Murphy, Blackwell, Simpson, Walker etc wouldn't put you into depression, and would give you that challenge too prove yourself.
Sure it's embarrasing at the moment, but with 3 picks in the top 20, and a chance too convince an out of contract player that hey, bugger the media reports, and some of the results, you can assist in making this happen and with you here it will happen quicker, it can be turned around into a competitive way fairly quick.
A forward line of Fev, Kennedy, (fit) Whitnall, Fisher, Betts, Lappin, and possibly Waite can offer some hope.
Hopefully our defense can have more hope if Thornton, Bower, Hartlett etc can fill rolls with OHailpin.
And a midfield / wing with Murphy, Gibbs, Scotland, Stevens, Walker, Simpson, Blackwell, Russell etc who knows.
We still have some promise in Edwards, Raso, Flint, Jackson etc as young ended players.
Everything just needs too be sold in the correct way.
I just hope they are moving heaven and earth at the approach too list management comes seasons end, because what frightens me is not our on field performance, but the murmurs of instability behind the scenes.

Our off field performance is worse than our on field.Who is selling the Carlton "brand",all you hear is doom and gloom from the likes of Smorgon,Malouf and Pagan.
Let's not forget one thing.....the ONLY way is UP!

Simple things about the team structure is what amazes me.
SWOT - WEAKNESSES....
1) LANCE WHITNALL IN DEFENCE.
Whitnall should be playing half forward line - nowhere else. Richmond rotated players on him and exploited a weakness. it is far too predictable that whitnall's opponent is who they attack through.
come on- this is simple stuff. put waite in defence as he does bugger all in attack. Gets drawn into packs and has trouble reading the play - where better to put him than defence.
2) BARNABY FRENCH
French was one of my favourites at the club, but the time has come to stop playing favourites. Every time he won a ruck tap in the centre he hit to the same spot - he has only one tap and that is to the left of his body. richmond players were well drilled on it and took nearly every one of his taps.
GIVE BRYAN more time... it should be 70/30 or 40/60 game time ...not 10% of time bryan and 90% french.
3) USING THE BENCH BETTER
perfect example of using the bench properly. use ruckmen close to 50% /50% or don't bother having two rucks in the team. drop french and bring in mclaren...that is an option.

Read bold - What amazes me is that Richmond were onto this, WHY THE HELL AREN'T THE BLUES? It was disgraceful and embarrassing!!!
Sounds like it was a good game to miss. Thankfully i was on a plane and didn't have a choice of whether I'd go to the game or not. Sadly, the season can't end quick enough!

Weird hey!!! If the average supporter is on to this, you'd think the coaching staff would be.
Pathetic attempts by the Blues and Bombers the last few weeks after signs of form. Surprising that both teams can't win another to keep their PP.
I never really thought teams tank, but after our performances the last few weeks you may find some people asking that question.
It's being asked of Essendon, why should we be any different.

Exactly right. Unfortunately, that seems to be the attitude of the players too. They look like a bunch of guys playing out time until the end of season trip. If they take that attitude into the next 2 weeks we could be on the end of some big losses. :(

I thought after the Melbourne game we might finish the season on a high and have a couple of extra wins. But after witnessing the Hawthorn game last week, and then getting beaten by Richmond yesterday, it just seems the players want the season to be finished as well.

Destroying the competition? Sheesh! They are the competition. Have been for 5 years now.
Anyway, I don't buy it when Pagan says our players are giving it their all. Commitment and effort is everything in footy. If we were trying as hard as Pagan says we are, we wouldn't be holding up the ladder for the 3rd time under his reign.
No doubt we all love his excuses, but eventually people have to take responsibility for failure. That time is long overdue for Dennis, and no amount of entertaining cliches will divert attention this time. To his credit though, he has fooled the media into thinking our team is below VFL class, and just winning a quarter of AFL footy is a remarkable effort.

Well said.
All of us have heard Pagan speak - he is simply uninspiring and too ready to make excuses. In Parkin's day if the boys were dropping you would hope for the quarter time, half time or three quarter address of the coach. These days they come out worse from the breaks - The coach address seems to rob us of our motivation and I find myself hoping that the quarters were longer. Pagan should be where he wants to be, off watching his race horses! He should leave the job to someone who has an ounce of passion for the navy blue jumper and who can instill that in the players when he needs to!
It is true that the coach is not responsible for everything on field - like skill - but the coach has to be held accountable when there is a question of passion and desire! If Sticks can evince the desired response from the boys then the coach should be able to get something out of them. Wallace inspires, Pagan excuses.

Cant work out why C.Bryan doesn't play that much for you guys, would love him to be a back-up for Simmonds. The guy can mark, moves well & his disposal is reasonably good of what I have seen of him especially for a guy of his size.
With the likes of Murphy & Gibbs leading your midfield in the future & kicking it to Fev & Waite, I would think you guys are about to start moving up the ladder & hopefully the Tigers & the Blues can battle it out in the finals in the not to distant future.

Because Pagan is D**K - He should have been playing all year instead of McLaren.
