View Full Version : Ken Judge....'you are pathetic'
I just read his open letter to Woosha. Talk about sour grapes.
"We wont make the 8 but KJ can understand woosha not telling the players that"
"WCE relies on tired, ageing stars" That old crap by him? Who is he on about? The injured Milli, Roo and Jako from last season? We relied on them did we? Nothing to to with Cuz and Gardy I suppose.
"KJ would have kept Scotty!!!!!!!!!!" Yea...so why did he pi ss him about so much last season?
" Wirrapunda has to do much more in midfield" Sure, how many times did you play him in midfield Ken?
bloody hypocrite.
The article:

Another one by KJ:

A few sour grapes if you ask me...

I read that in the paper this morning. I think Woosha should just do his own thing and not listen to Judge. If he wants help, surely he can get it from people he trusts. I'm sure Judge is just trying to 'help' but come on. That is just ridiculous.

Ah, it's not even March and already the Sunday Crimes is full of its usual sh1te.
Eagles won't make the 8, hey? On behalf of all realistic Eagles fans (i.e. most everyone except Mike Smith), may I say:
DUHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

well with respect, you sacked him as coach, after head hunting him - how happy is he supposed to be?
"We wont make the 8 but KJ can understand woosha not telling the players that"
Well, of course ... that is 100% factual ... whats the problem?
"WCE relies on tired, ageing stars" That old crap by him? Who is he on about? The injured Milli, Roo and Jako from last season? We relied on them did we? Nothing to to with Cuz and Gardy I suppose.
Well their absence meant you won 5 games - so perhaps maybe he has a point? I mentioned this last year and you launched into a tirade, now the coach of last year states the same thing - surely you can admit he is in a better place than either of us to makie a judgement call on that - then again, you probably know more and better anyway. ;)
" Wirrapunda has to do much more in midfield" Sure, how many times did you play him in midfield Ken?
how injured was he? how about the lack of defensive pressure?
bloody hypocrite.
Well at least you are very well placed to make that call ... if anyone would know one, it would be you.

I pretty much agree with a lot of what Judgey said.
We have relied too much upon our ageing stars for the past couple of years. Not enough of the young guys have filled the void that guys like McKenna, Kemp, Lewie, Muddy ect have left.
I mean this is nothing new. We all know it.
And his thoughts on Andrew Embly (http://members.iinet.net.au/~busby/AEmbleyPProfile.htm) where almost identical to my player profile. :)
But that doesn't make it any less pathetic.
Writing an open letter to Woosh - in which there is clearly resentment and criticism towards the club - just a few months after he was sacked, is just sad.
I felt embarrassed for him.
Also, this quote tells a bit of a story:
"If I was at the club I would have thought it was unlikely we would make the top eight"
"But you never tell the players that"
Judgey you're not that good of an actor.
The players would've have seen through you. I did last year.
And if the coach doesn't have faith in his side, then the players aren't going to have faith in you.
You're gloomy, pessimistic outlook was the main reason for the gutless, unpassionate football our side played last year.
You need to accept some of the responsibility as well.
But we've moved on now anyway.
Judge has gone, and next week we'll see a new side try and seek revenge upon Carlton.
If Woosh has their heads right, they'll be most eager to make up for their performance at the same venue last year.

After reading that letter I have doubts over its legitimacy. To me it seems that the letter is a fabrication of the newspaper and I personally don't take any of i seriously.
I know KJ was a bad coach, but he is not stupid. Surely if he wrote a letter to Woosha he wouldn't make it open??

I think what might have happened is that he might have said some of those comments in passing and all of a sudden, the lads at the Sunday times have decided to make it a letter to Woosha...
but who cares, KJ's opinion isnt really important any more is it??

Fabrication or not, I wasn't happy to see Ken Judge of all people offering advice to John Worsfold. I hope if John was reading the Slimes, he just turned over to the next page or to the TV Guide.
A lot of the stuff he said was what we already knew: We know our H&A record, we know that Cousins and Gardiner carried us through last year.
Judge is a hypocrite. We says he would of kept Cummings - maybe if Judge put a bit more confidence in Scott last year and gave him more gametime instead of benching him for long periods when we needed a target up forward, he might of been able to kick a few more goals.
I expect Judge to give Freo sour grapes next week, since he got turned down a Footy position at the club a few months back.

Actually, game time when he's out of form doesn't seem to help Scott Cummings. John Cahill tried it in big lumps, but it just got him more down on himself because he kept playing crap...which is why he came to your lot.

You're a moron suzie. The eagles had enough class to keep KJ until the end of the season and only then give him the sack. We also spared him the embarrassment by personally telling him he was sacked, not through the media.
If you think that is a "pathetic" way of sacking a coach, then please tell me what an non-pathetic way would be?

This is my first post in this forum but I just couldn't let this Judge open letter go. KJ is one of the worst coaches in the AFL history, with a pathetic 32% winning percentage in 4 years as head coach, and now he's trying to give advice to Woosha ? And even worse in such a paternalistic way ? He is the reason the Eagles went from a powerhouse to wooden spoon favourites. All we got from him were thrashings after thrashings and "rebuilding" excuses and now he wants to give advice ? I was trying to forget him and his losing ways but the guy rather than shut up, decided to put some salt on past wounds and write a so called "open letter" to John Worsfold. In the end, all I understood from it was resentment and the concealed admission that he wants Woosha to fail. All that because he was an incapable and unskilled coach. Furthermore, now I have a good reason not to buy the Sunday Times.

Welcome to the board and well done for IMO an excellent first post.
When KJ was recruited I think he had support from all of us. What changed was the on field attitude of the players on the park, no passion, no discipline and the nonchalent attitude of KJ at post match conferences. We then saw and heard of a lot of player unrest with KJ being disliked by many. Midway through his first season he bagged his players after a game, this was the turning point for me. He basically said that recruiting under MM had been crap and he was left with a load of rubbish players. Well whether he was right or wrong in his opinion it was, to me, a terrible thing to say about your players as a coach. He was also tactically naieve, making changes on match ups far too late. We humans could see the mismatches and screamed for changes but they only came 10 minutes later when the damage had been critical.
It went on to his second season with woeful performances.......not so much lacking in skill but lacking in pride, passion and dropping their heads........down to KJ....IMO.
Suzie, this board is an excellent one. One of the most popular on bigfooty and growing regularly. I never read the Sunday Times and don't care what it says as (like most newspapers only worse) every article I've ever had personal knowledge of has at least one material error or omission.
I'm not concerned about what Ken Judge's view is - he had his chance to do the job and failed. Big time. Anyone can offer advice to others, it's a damn sight harder doing it yourself.
Unlike our friend Suzi, I support the game (footy), the club (Eagles) and then individual players and coaches in that order, so I would rather things were done for the good of the club than for the good of individual players and coaches. In other words, the club is more important than the individual.
There is no doubt in my mind (from experience of Hawthorn as well as the Eagles) that Judge knows a lot about footy and tries hard.
Unfortunately, he can't coach. He is a shocking match day coach. Name me a worse one in recent AFL history. Ask the Hawthorn Bigfooty supporters. Examine his record. Listen to his after match speeches. Show me any objective indicator that tells the opposite story. The Eagles board made a big mistake in recruiting him (without a proper process) and did what they could to fix the error as well as possible in the circumstances.
Judge's intense and pessimistic personality is damaging to players and others in the club and he will not accept help from anywhere outside of his immediate support group. He is not a leader. If you lose the players - and he did - you're gone.
The Judge King is dead. Long live the Woosha King. Go Eagles!!

No we weren't. On what basis do you say that? That's just you projecting what you wish on the situation. You can't speak for West Coast Eagles supporters because you aren't one and never have been. You are a Ken Judge /Luke Toia/ Hawthorn/ Fremantle supporter.
You may be getting confused with which supporter base were happy at Judge leaving Hawthown to go to the Eagles. The Hawthorn fans were very happy. Ansett Cup game, Waverley, early 2000. Hawthorn v. WCE. Look up the three quarter time score and tell me who's happy and whether Judge can coach.

If you want to aim this at someone in particular then do so but do not generalise because I, and many others, thought MM was a superb coach and was very sorry to see him go. I also was not very impressed with KJ's record at Hawthorn and the Hawks fans were bagging him in a big way. So KJ had it all to prove.
Now Woosha comes home as an Eagles hero and will get 110% support but we are all aware that he is inexperienced and that things could all go wrong. However, that's the chance we are taking and most of us are very happy with how he is going about it.

No we werent! We were all sad to see MM leave. He was/is after all one of the best coaches in the AFL, and right up to his last game with us when it was a certainty that he would be leaving for collingwood the WC fans supported him.
Personally, i have nothing against MM even now. I respect the man as a human being and as a coach, and acknowledge the fact that he took us to 2 premierships. I don't know where you got that crap from, but i guarantee you 95% of WC supporters weren't happy to see MM go. In fact, up until McGuire started the rumours on the "Footy Show" that MM might be leaving for collingwood, the eagles were premiership favourites sitting 2 games clear on top of the ladder. So why would WC supporters be happy to see a coach go that could have potentially taken us to our 3rd premiership??

KJ's coaching merit aside, I think the 'letter' should be taken for what it is; that is, from a predecessor (albeit a bitter one) to the new coach giving him some honest advice for the future based on his own mistakes.
Some of the advice is not so bad. I found it interesting that he suggested the need for a confidant - someone unaligned with the club who can give unbiased support and advice (how about Bluey???). It tells us all something about KJ's opinion of WCE management and board though......
But take it for what it is - of course it's going to be negative, the guy was treated very poorly after all (IMO), so that's always going to be understandable. But negative, harsh viewpoints are useful too. If everyone stood around building Woosha up with positive outlooks and flattery he'd be worse off.

If I ever catch you saying anything right, I'll let you know.
So far, you just haven't given me the chance!
