View Full Version : Check Out Our Midfield in 4 years. Look Out!
Lightning In A Bottle

Looking ahead 4 or 5 years our midfield looks scary. Check out the hardness with McLean and Moloney leading the way and backed up by Sylvia, Jones, Bartram and Bate. Chuck Davey up on the wing for a bit of polish and its possible we could have the most devistating midfield in the comp. Good things ahead guys, looking forward to it. Who else is still young and could swing through there?

Scary to think that McLean is only 20.

i think while west coast still have judd, fletcher, braun, kerr, cousins, embley and stenglein in the one side they will have the dominate mid field. 4 years down the track the only one who would possibly vanish from that group would be cousins due to age

Fletcher and Braun will have gone down by a bit then.
Our midfield in 4 years: McLean, Jones, Sylvia, Moloney, Bartram, Bate, CJ, possibly TJ who will be 30 and perhaps Flash on the wing (Though I still think he is at his best inside F50). Bell could also be in there.
Pretty freaking good. This year we should go after some pacier midfielders as this group isn't slow but not super quick.

To be honest the prospect of that midfield is making me aroused.
Of course by then we'll probably have something else fatally wrong that'll keep us from winning anything.

I think TJ at 30 will still be an absolute topliner, given his recent relatively good run with injuries continue. Let's get him on the field!!! That aside, i like your side.
what about 426???!!

I'd have ferg at full back, miller at ff - his lead and mark last weekend was great work and then he wouldn't have to worry about whether to kick or handball. Also think Yze, Whelan and Carroll might be struggling.
Who does everyone think would coach - Maybe Garry Lyon

No more than a 29 year old Ferguson.
I love his courage but some people are too enamoured with him.
He has many flaws in his game: lack of pace, strength and his decision making is questionable.
ATM he is nothing but depth, I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded at the end of the year and I would be shocked if he got another contract with us. Personally I feel Warnock has greater upside - bigger bodied and can take a grab.
Re. Miller in the backline he isn't a great footballer wherever he plays, he's an honest toiler what I like about him is his strength, he will stay on an opponent and is competitive I see him as an upgrade on the role that Holland and Nicholson have played in the past. Playing forward he presents well and provides a link in the chain but he doesn't kick goals and often sells teamates running past into trouble.
Dunn, Hughes (mini Robbo), Newton and The Great Man will offer a far more potent forward setup IMO.

We will probably go back to wearing the 80's jumper with the light blue and red, and then it won't matter who we have!

It is a little difficult to predict what will happen with any team in four years. Long term injuries could cripple a sides midfield or another Chris Judd could come along and make a huge impact on a team that wasn't considered to have an elite midfield; suddenly catapulting them to the top bracket. Melbourne do, however seem to be developing a good team, not just a midfield, and fans can reasonably expect to see their team playing finals for some years to come.
