Talking to a couple of knowledgeable Sturt supporters this morning. They are very disappointed with the form of DeLuca.

He wouldnt be on his own there given their results.

Rory, photoshop DeLuca up in a magpie jumper and see if he'd fit the bill.

Why do they bother nominating players at the mini draft when they are going to pull this sort of stuff? However, I do not think that Sturt are the worst offenders.
BTW Sturt have named Rischbieth in the seniors. So Magpie fans who arrive early at Alberton tomorrow will see Deluca and Eckermann in the 2s, and Looby and Rischbieth in the As.

Before we bitch and moan............ take away the fact they are on our list was it justified to drop them on form?

Once again I'll be shot down and people will use the Jacob Surjan precedent, who for the record certainly deserved to be dropped from the Central side at the time.

And when he got to the closest we're allowed to a reserve side in the SANFL pretty much immediately turned it around.

Yet again shows that even if the SANFL won't let the PAFC take over the PAMFC full stop (which they should and get back to one club), then at least we should be able to drop all our players back to the Magpies. (And bringing up the Crows in the argument is irrelevant, they aren't originally from the SANFL, so splitting their players amongst their 'founding father' clubs is fine, or they can just rotate through each SANFL club year by year).

Nah lets not be small minded. Let the Crows have their own seconds side. That would mean 10 teams in the feeder comp.

This nonsense went on under Brenton Phillips too ... to the point where I heard Port were going to meet with Sturt to discuss what was going on.

Eckermann's obviously struggling, but it seems they'd rather persist with the long term option of Feast than try to develop Deluca  .

I don't think its really coincidence that the rookie listed guys are getting a run, and the senior listed aren't.

having been to nearly all the port training sessions over the last 3 weeks i am not at all surprised that eckerman has been dropped. his confidence is shot and is nowhere near the player he once was.

Deluca has been a touch dissapointing.

Dont know why Eckermann was dropped. The last three weeks he had started getting his hands on the ball a lot more.

Broadie is a complete tool and I hate him a lot more than you guys I can guarentee but Eckermann's form hasn't been great so he's getting a run in the Ressies.

I LOVE this idea, but it will never happen;

AFL lists don’t have the numbers for two sides, which means you would need 'extras'. Who do they train with? they can’t train with the AFL side because of regulations, they can’t train by themselves. It’s a bigger problem than you think as these players then feel disenfranchised and eventually get the sad sacks and leave. It happens in the modern day VFL all the time.

Existing AFL fans who still follow their old clubs. Wouldn’t it be difficult for Norwood/Crows fans to support, essentially, two clubs within the same competition?

Weaken existing clubs. I don’t think the Norwoods/Sturts/Norths of the world would approve, this would essentially create two clubs that would dominate the comp plus the above point robbing them of possible supporters.

He started off so brightly, obviously the Stenglien hit knocked the stuffing out of him and the club needs to find something/someone to get his confidence back because it is all mental. He has shown us all he has the ability.

I understand the issue the SANFL have with all AFL players in one side is primarily what to do with the Crows. If they allign to an existing club who will it be and what impact will it have on future SANFL support. Given the kids generally select an AFL side before a SANFL side all these junior Crows supporters will likely support the Crows alligned SANFL club. Assume they allign with Norwood who will support South, Glenelg and Westies etc in the future ? They would also see Port Magpies gaining a supporter benefit over the other clubs if Port players were all allowed to play for Port.
I think that is what is stopping it, and as frustrating as it has been with the way Centrals treated Surjan, Glenelg not playing Willits in attack and now DeLuca dropped I am not sure what the answer is.
Hopefuly Port and the Crows can work together and establish firmer guidelines that the SANFL clubs must work within if they are going to draft an AFL player and have the benefits of that player at their club.

Pretty devo about Sturt's season this year. We've been the worst even though we aren't bottom of the ladder.

However, I'm happy in a way because Broadie needs to get booted.

Westies look like they'll get up over Norwood today, only be a game behind you.

Port did the "double" over the Blues today.

RESERVES:
Port 25.23 173
Sturt 9.5 59

SENIORS:
Port 21.15 141
Sturt 5.9 39

Deluca was BOG for Sturt reserves in my opinion. Eckermann was horrid in the first half but decent in the second.

saw the last qtr of the reserves between port and sturt.
eckerman was ok nothing special. I think back to the port v sydney game when mark williams told the members back at the club after the game that josh carr was playing glenelg reserves in his 2nd year and that developing players can be a rough ride. i dont know about eckerman.maybe we should give him another season.

does anyone else think that tim looby looks unfit. he seems to be carrying alot of baby fat. Whatever the case he didn't do much although in fairness the ball hardly went down there.
Tom rischbieth got an absolute bath from scott stevens.

jeremy clayton was excellent as usual.

Got to Alberton just before the start of the 3rd quarter of the reserves game. Saw the scoreboard and had to ask someone what quarter they were now starting and if the score was correct.

Deluca booted a couple in the second half. Didnt see much of Eckerman.

Was great to see the Maggies bury the double blues in both the reserves and the seniors.:D

88 on indeed. Especially remember 1988, 89, 90, 92, 94, 95, 96, 98 (a special one for Blues supporters to remember) and 99.

And 1976? Feel free to mention it - it was that GF that made JC realise just what it took to win flags. He never lost a league GF with Port again :thumbsu:
