I was just wondering what you guys thought would be the best structure for our forward line in the future. I thought Franklin and Roughy would play CHF and FF but with the possibility of another KPP coming in this years draft and Dowler still developing it looks like we have multiple options.
How do you guys think our forward line should be setup if we're to have a successful team in the future??

You know, I really wouldn't be suprised to see Dowler be played as a 3rd tall down back for the majority of next year. At least with next years forward structure, I see something like,

HFF: Williams Roughead Crawford

FF: Dixon Franklin Clarke

Gives us alot of flexability doesn't it. Roughead with his big mits and strong marking, williams with his leading and goal kicking, Franklin with his athleticism, Dixon with his 1 or 2 goals a game and Clarke and Crawf rotating through the midfield with their fitness.

We still lack a crummer.

We still lack a crummer.

Yeah, but that's a role we can cover, and Franklin can pull that sorta stuff off. (aka 6 goals v richmond york park & 6 goals v Carlton had some great crums)

We still lack a crummer.

Crummer's are developed, not drafted. That's why I don't think we should draft Jetta (sorry NW! ;))

We still lack a crummer.

I don't think that's really an issue at all...the beauty of Mark Williams is because he's so short he can act as both a leading target and a stay grounded crummer as we saw a few times against Essendon when the ball came to ground, and as xyakks said Buddy is so mobile that most of his goals so far have come from crumming the ball off the pack.

Tought to say because we don't know how Dowler is going to Develop, but say he becomes the long leading forward, bit like Riewoldt and Tarrant in terms of futher up the ground I think we'll get some good structures.

Roughead the solid target who is always there to go long to. Williams leading from the square. Franklin playing about 40m out from Goal either CHF or wider, and Dowler leading from half forward. Its quite a mobile forward line which suits the modern game, but still has a solid body in Roughead to go long and go for a contested mark.

Not too worried about the crumber. One of Guerra, Bateman, types could play the role no worries.

Reckon Roughie needs to play close to goal - doesnt have to engine or pace for long searching leads up the wings or centre - we need him in the fwd 50 where his greatest strength - contested marking can be utilised.

Roughie bringing the ball to ground in the fwd 50 is a lot more dangerous for the team than 70-80m out from goal. Someone like tom murphy with another preseason may be able to act as the hitup target leading up the ground playing as a quasi centre half fwd (where dowler will hopefully end up) leaving roughie to roam in the hot spot between trad ff and chf and buddy to play as a floating fwd leading up the wings, playing deep in the fwd 50 or crumbing off roughie. Willo and Dixon playing as leading targets from the square (and willo crumbing a bit more) and crawf free to run and create off a flank.

Something like

Franklin Murphy Crawf
Roughie
Williams Dixon

I'd like to see Dowler in there in the future. Just have to wait and see how he performs next year though.

If we somehow snare Cook from BHFC, and he measures up, he could be the X Factor. But with the list as we have it......H/FWD Line : Little, Roughead and Franklin...........F/FWD Line : Dixon, Williams and Murphy/McGlynn alternating in the other pocket as little man/ big man options but BOTH HARD NUTS

harry miller was supposed to be our next big crummer. who needs a crummer anyway screw the crummer get 5/6 blokes who can take a overhead and chest mark then there wont be a need for a crummer.if the bll happens to mistakenly fall to the ground one of the midfeilders or buddy will clean up

I hope we just let Franklin roam around the ground.

IMO, he has the potential to be a Goodes like player only quicker, more mercurial but slightly less consistent.

I'd line Franklin up as a CHF, but from there let him play all around the ground, sort of like a Ruck Rover lining up from CHF. Let him be unaccountable, go for the big grabs, pick up the lose ball off the packs and go for runs along the wing.

I would play Roughead in the Wayne Carey position - between FF and CHF, and Dowler in the FF position leading from the square. As I said all we need is a crummer to add another dimension - I guess Williams can develop into this player.

We already have a gun midfield and forward line in the making, all we now lack is a KPP down back.

If he isn't contracted next season, I'll be suprised if Harry will be with us at seasons end.

We still lack a crummer.

I'll give it a go!
