View Full Version : The draw and ladder calculations

Today's draw has made the finish more interesting.

**Everything posted below is based on the assumption we WIN next week against the Lions.

If the Eagles beat Fremantle, then here's how the ladder will look after this round (provided the Pies win by <5 goals and all other results are predictable):

Next Week
Assuming we win, and with the Tigers beating WCE at the MCG, and all other results are predicable (with the Pies winning by <5 goals and Crows being Dees) then here's how the ladder will look:

The worst case scenario if we win next week (and providing the Eagles win tomorrow) is finishing 5th.
The best case scenario, providing the Swans lose 1 of the next 2 and the Dees lose next week, is a finish of 3rd.

I want to avoid WC Freo and Sydney, I reckon we can handle Adelaide right now.

wouldnt mind playing sydney in sydney we went really well there this year... but adelaide is my prefered option... i want us to stay as far away from perth as possible... is it possible for us to play freo there after playing west coast??? or wouldn't it be better for us to go to perth first week of finals get smashed but not have to play west coast again till the grand final?

If I was offered a top four position today I'd take it, regardless of who we had to play.

If I had a choice it would be Adelaide, then Sydney. West Coast is clearly the team we'd want to avoid first up.

It's dangerous to look ahead because we haven't been able to put consistent performances together. The Lions are struggling but if it is Vossy's last game they'll be really fired up. Still it's a game we should win no doubt.

It's a nice situation to be in. We haven't had a great season by any means but we're thereabouts at the business end of the season. Should be an interesting next month. :thumbsu:

Well the Eagles didn't win and the Dockers were extremely impressive once again.

Unless Carlton beat Sydney or Port Adelaide beat Fremantle we're heading for an elimination final at the G. Even if those two games go our way, we still need to win well next week and finish with a higher percentage than Collingwood who are playing the Kangaroos.

I had a play with the ladder predictor (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=ladderpredictor) and there is a remote chance that we finish fourth and Adelaide finish on top.

That would be a desirable outcome, we play Adelaide in the first final and if we win we get a week's break and then play at MCG for the final two matches. :)

Most likely we will finish outside the top 4 and will have to play every week.
I don't consider this a bad thing. It will keep us hard and desperate, with every match a knockout final.

I agree. Besides, Swans last year had to play all four games and it didn't seem to be a problem. The Crows finished outside the 4 in one of their grand final winning years - therefore had to play in all 3 games to get to the G/F .
