Rightly we have moved on from that messy trade week in 2003 when it turned out you ended up at Footscray and not North to play with your best mate, bro Brady.
It was a very poignant after match tribute to you as a plain great bloke and a wholesome family man as players from both clubs lined up to clap you off the ground.
A lump came to my throat when you said on Fox Footy that you knew it was going to be a tough gig after the final siren to say goodbye to your Kanga team-mates but you were overwhelmed when so many of the Hawks players embraced you and lined up to applaud you in your final moment as an AFL player.
There's more to footy than club rivalry.
Fabulous

Here Here Gary or is it Hear Hear.
Had a lump in my throat watching his face as he came off.....
I LOVE seeing that kind of emotion in Footy.
Here Here Gary or is it Hear Hear.
The latter....

Here Here Gary or is it Hear Hear.
I always thought it was Here Here, but I dunno anymore.
The world is too confusing these days.
That's sweet Dicey - we'll pass it on to Jade.
Fabulous

To clarify:
The correct term is, "hear, hear!" It is an abbreviation for "hear, all ye good people, hear what this brilliant and eloquent speaker has to say!"
Of course, if the speaker is actually asking a question, such as "and just where do you think we should open the new strip club?" it's not hard to imagine that at least one yahoo in attendance might yell, "here, here!" But this would be the exception that proves the rule.

Well said GS..A really nice guy, and a very touching farewell. I admit when I saw it on the news tonight, it brought a lump to my throat.
As you say, there is more to Football than just playing...A great tribute from the boys...Well Done!!!
"and just where do you think we should open the new strip club?".Off topic but are they still looking for suggestions at Linda Crescent?

You can't hold the trade against him.
He wanted more then 2 years for the sake of security for his family we wouldn't give it to him, so we traded him.

Funny Hawkk how you come up with this from my post.
I actually wasn't thinking this at all.
Do you always jump to conclusions about peoples posts like this? :(

It was a fair assumption to make.

Thanks for the apology but you should be more careful making assumptions about what you think people are thinking.
I actually thought it was interesting he went through so much pain to eventually play with his brother but in the end they only played 3 games together!

A bit like the Jarmans in a way.

Better still, I remember watching a replay of a Hawk Kanga clash from 2001, when it was Brady who was the forgotten brother and Jade was the star. How things change over 5 years....
Irrespective of that, Jade was a fine servent over his 120 game career at Hawkland.
Jade was always a hawk and only played well for the hawks so hes really one of ours retiring great that he could play his last game with us and i was almost in tears to see him go

It is really stretching things way too far to even suggest Rawlings was one of Hawthorn's "great" players. For the first 5-6 years at Hawthorn he was a spare parts player who made spasmodic appearancess in the team.
He had 2 seasons of good footy, and then when he was looking to sign a contract, his self assessment was elevated way beyond what the Hawks knew he was worth. That is why he left the club. If he had a more balanced idea of his own ability, he could have played out his career in a Hawks jumper.

The Sunday Age quoted him as saying : "The way they (Hawks) ran today was astonishing".............That appraisal along with how in the previous 2 weeks we did the same in both first halves..............VERY EDIFYING HFC

if you reread his post and put a comma betweenretiring and great, it will make more sense :)
