Sure Buddy has kiced some bags this year, and consistently chipped in with a couple each week, but today I saw some of the most encouraging signs so far.

He didn't have his best game by a long shot, but his presented and overhead marking are getting better each week.

Some posters around this place have labelled him as a flanker, or a player who will never be able to mark overhead, but as he's put on some weight, gained some confidence he is starting to compete really well in the air. This will only get better with age, and once he is able to combine strong leading and marking ability with his skill at ground level we'll have a true modern day CHF in the making here.

Is already looking like one of the hardest matchups in the AFL, and as his marking improve you'd think he'd either be too quick for the talls, and too tall for the smaller more agile types.

Very promising stuff.

BTW, Grant Birchall is quality. Seriously didn't expect anything like what he has produced this year. Knew he was a chance to play some games, but after feeling his way through the first few games with no mistakes, is already confident enough to provide run from half back and long kicks to our forwards.

I found these two things the most pleasing from today's game.

Buddy's marking is quite strong, just imagine when he adds some extra kilos' he will be sensational.

Birchall has the confidence and can run run run and backs himself in and he's been awesome this season, a chance to win the rising star.

In the "Hawk Talk" just received last week, when interviewed by Dicko and asked to nominate the area of his game he'd have to improve ? Answer : His marking..............but whilst he's crafting that string to his bow, he's already a match winner and a strategic head-ache to the oposition. Lessons like the one he got yesterday from Petrie will only serve him and his coaching mentors for the better.
