Peter Riccardi announced today that Ryan Gamble will wear the number 15 jumper next season. Congratulations to him.
I was sitting behind his parents. During the VFL game his mum was cheering him on and his dad was telling him to get a kick.

Anyway, good on him. Ricco obviously thinks he'll be a player of the future.

Awww that's so lovely.

Ryan's always been one of my favourites. Top guy as well, always joking and chatting.

I imagine he would still have 34.

I thought it was a lovely moment - Ryan was absolutely chuffed.

Gamble looks like he'll be a good player from what I'v seen, chance to play this wk after just missing out against the Dees.

He and Corey Enright were at my nephews footy clinic today.
He looked really happy, can't wait 'till he gets a shot at AFL. :)

Recently-retired Geelong champion Peter Riccardi has passed the torch - and his guernsey number - to Cat youngster Ryan Gamble who will make his AFL debut against the Hawks next Sunday.

Taken at pick number 47 in last year's NAB AFL National Draft, the 18-year-old midfielder is free to wear Riccardi's number after the club sought and gained a clearance from the AFL.

"We're going to play Ryan Gamble … he's going to wear number 15 which is a gift from Peter Riccardi," Thompson announced shortly before training at Skilled Stadium on Wednesday.

"He obviously sees him as a player of the future - and it's going to be a good way to finish off the year for Ryan, to get an appetite and get an experience of playing an AFL game."

Thompson said there were likely to be one or two other changes as the Cats look to finish the season on a winning note and denied some of his players needed to impress him on Sunday in order to retain their spots on the playing list.

The match has no ramifications for the finals series after Geelong bowed out with a draw last week against the Demons, but Thompson said his charges would be going all out for the win and weren't taking Hawthorn lightly.

"That's the challenge - our challenge is to win eight-and-a-half from the last 12 (games) - if we can do that, it's going to set the club up for next year," he said.

"We've got to be careful, we've got to prepare pretty well, they play a different game and we have to adapt to that."

That is good for him as now he has a chance to play his entire afl career in the #15 rather than start with a high number and trade down. Hopefully he gets as many games in it as rico did

Good to hear that he'll get a gig. It'll be interesting to hear how he goes, I'm very interested to see what he'll bring to the seniors. Any idea which position he'll hold down? I get the impression he's a small forward type but I am not certain about that.

Midfield/forward.He's got an excellent vertical leap.On saturday in the VFL he played in the forward 50 [apparently he was crook on friday night] and did a good job.
