Pfft get over it.
They were clapping because we were all but out of it in that first half and instead of giving up they fought hard and go back in the game and almost won it.
They did it because they are SUPPORTERS. And SUPPORTERS support no matter what. Der!

Thats why they put the AFL and gold class members next to the race!
But by clapping them off you are accepting mediocrity...

I can understand clapping at the end of the game, but I was ****ed off at those who clapped them off at 1/2time.
Mind you this is a regular occurance in the brownlow stand.

So what? A bunch of losers hanging over abusing their team does nothing for the club and it doesn't somehow click a side into gear.

For one, its not "Kingy's" last game as captain, secondly, it was not the last game of the season, thirdly, get ur punctuation correct before arking up at others. We are just loyal fans, I do agree our supporters are stupid sometimes, for example, shouting "kick it" when their is knowone to kick to, or abusing our own players for not winning contested possessions in some contests. The same bloody people each week that sit around me in my members seats dont have a clue about football, having good knowledge of the game, sometimes you feel like hitting them over the head for some of the things they say.

Try your spelling and grammar!
eg. It's arcing up (unless you're referring to flooding tactics!)
"there is no-one"
"winning contested possessions in some contests" a little bit of double-dutch to finish off!

People will always clap their club That is the true meaning of SUPPORTER...Not Slagger.
I personally wouldnt clap after a crap season like this or a Draw, but some people do. I was drinking with a bloke after the 92 GF who said it was only a game. Bullshyte it is ..but his opinion & his passion is different than mine so I dont care what he thought in the end....nor should you!

At the end of the game was totally defalted and just stood there.
Then I clapped politely because
Gaz was injured and exhausted and he still persisted
I could see the same defalted look on their faces
Lonergan finally looked like a footballer
Dog's hit on Holland echoed around the ground

Agreed
i support the cats...i get frustrated when they dont play well, ie; the first half. But I still support them. Living in WA you see that the majority of Eagles and Dockers fans are fair weather fans, only at the game when their team is playing well. I think to continue to support your club even when they play crap shows alot more than hanging over the fence and spitting at the players.
The way they lifted was deserving of applause. Their first half wasn't really, but you still love your team, and want to help get them up, and some numskull leaning over the fence telling Otto to learn how to kick isn't going to make him suddenly go 'hey, he's right, next time i will kick a goal.'..... be a true supporter and stand by your club when its up or down.

The club disgusts me quite often but i'd never boo or throw memberships or anything else. I definately wouldn't clap for any of the garbage we've had to witness this season either.

You should all just get over it.
Some people clap their team, some people don't.
You can't call them pathetic fans.
Just because they don't throw their memberships at the players, yeah. That's a good fan isn't it?
I was proud of Geelong yesterday. Didn't expect them to do that. AND! They didn't lose.

I was disgusted with how the cats played in the first half. I almost felt at half tim ebut decided to stay just incase the looked like they actually want to play in the second half. They did... so I stayed.
The end was weird. The crowd went so silent. I just put my hands on my head. No need for clapping, they didn't win but they didn't loose. I supose if I was sitting near the race i would have clapped because of the way they played in the second half.
Anyway, like Charlie said just get over it. Everyone reacts differently. :)
But by clapping them off you are accepting mediocrity...
And by booeing and throwing ur membership in their faces shows them that ur a d!khead - which one are u?
As mentioned by the second poster - we were clapping because they showed some heart in the second half - good on them, and if they play like they did in the second half and get done by 10 goals then i'll still clap.
For all the non-clappers u'v got no right to judge the ppl who do acknowledge the efforts by the players, u call urselfs real supporters? pfft i call u a pain in the a$$ ... and im sure the entire senior list of players would agree with me!

Well i have never bought a membership, i was either too young (family don't like football) or i never found it necessary...
no.2 i don't boo them, i sit there, just silence. Give them the cold shoulder if you will...
When the screw up the best chances to win, time and time again, i don't think clapping them off is going to help change that culture...
We were rewarding a good performance with encouragment. Some of the efforts in the second half by the boys yesterday were absolutely fantastic and deserved the appluds after the game. Any one who didn't think so obviously doesn't have a clue about how hard the players went to get back into a contest that they couldn't handle in the firts half.
The fact that they turned the tide and showed more positives in one half of football than they have in almost the majority of qaurters since round 3 means that the fans appreciated their efforts and returned the favour by giving them a well deserved send off as they walked into the rooms.
The fact that they had Melbourne by the scruff the neck, peppered the ball inside 50, but each time it was wasted and then Melbourne go down there end once, get an uncontested mark 30m out infront of goal, is really quite disgusting..
We wasted another win, i don't care how many points we were down, in the 4th quarter we were up by 6 and smashing Melbourne all over the park. You have to finish those games off..
Exactly, to be considered as one of the best teams in the comp we need to win the close games (which we cannot do)
But the fact we were able to fight back instead of just play ****house football all day was what got the supporters on their feet after the game. Fair enough ppl can say that it was poor how we got so far behind in the first place - but noone woulda given us a chance to get back into the game, and when we did and made the end an exciting finish the fans appreciated the way the boys really responded after half time.

In my opinion, the way Geelong played in the final 45 minutes wasn't fantastic football. It was pretty good, sure, but it was the type of stuff I expect for the majority of every game for the season. Just good, solid, tough, risk-taking, confident, up-the-guts, forward-kicking, accountable, direct footy.
WE ALWAYS PLAY LIKE THIS WHEN WE ARE CONFIDENT. WE LOOK OUR BEST WHEN WE PLAY THIS WAY. WE DO NOT HAVE THE SIDE THAT CAN PLAY THE CHIP-CHIP-CHIPAROO GAME WELL. PLEASE BOMBER, IF YOU ARE STILL THERE NEXT YEAR, MAKE THIS THE GAMEPLAN.

I was so angry at half time, I sprinted from the scoial club to be at the top of the race when the players came off. I didn't boo them off but just shouted at them to show something for once and stop being such a pack of tools.
When I got to the top of the race, i was disgusted by the amount of people who were clapping them, off. I just looked straight at some guy and screamed in his face. 'What the hell are u clapping them for?' and he just kept on clapping!!!
I met some friends at the bottom of the Brownlow stand and they had a spare seat, so i stayed there for the second half.
The guy i was with was justifyably bagging Ling, King and Kingsley for their soft efforts all day and some old bat turned around and 'which team do u barrack for?' to him.
He just said, 'well at least i barrack u silly old b... u just sit there with your hands on your arse and say nothing all day!'
The only excitement in the Brownlow Stand is waiting to see which old fart is gonna keel over first!
The only proof that half of them are alive is the fact they're upright and warm. You wouldnt know otherwise.
A couple of times we tried to get the chant going, not once person got up and got into the game. The quicker they burn down the stand and burn down all them in it, the better we'll be.
I'd much rather see us play more games in Melbourne, at least the crowd is always passionate up there.
Let me get this right, first u "scream" in some guys face, then ur friend calls an old lady a "silly old bitc ..." ... and u want the stand to burn down with the supporters in it - well its fair to say ur a tool.
If u want more Melbourne-based games then there's a team called Collingwood u can watch - u would fit right in with their cheer-squad. Give joffa my best regards - ur both tossers.

Supporters should do so whether their team is up or down. Frustration being vented at your team won't help, but we all do it.
The difference between teams with frustrated supporters is those who come back every year, the difference is that if we drop our memberships then we become another Fitzroy.
Surely all GFC supporters wouldn't want that.
Martin Luther King Jr stated "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. (http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/24973.html)"
All supporters should be like this, sure get frustrated, but support your team when the chips are down.
At long last someone else finally makes some sense
Go Cattas!!!
Where did he say you should clap them off when they lose a game they shouldn't...
I'll be here next year, and the year after, i will never stop supporting Geelong. I'll cheer and scream as loud as the next man, i will roar when we kick a goal (unless we just conceeded 6 in a row), i will sing the song when we win. However i will not clap them off if they lose the unloseable... If they stupidly give the opponents the game when it was theirs for the taking.
I will be there at the end, but i will not be clapping, i will be dead quiet, shaking my head most likely. Giving them a dissaproved look. However i will not resort to Richmond level, i will not spit and boo and throw objects at them...
You're there for them, they have got to be there for you....It works both ways, the supporters are not the only ones who should be showing up, the team has to, for the sake of the fans....
As general says, Winning is everything, Everything else is unacceptable...
I may have been quick to judge u YOTC ... what u just said is spot on, be dissappointed and don't clap if ur not satisfied with them.
However for those who act like a 7 y/o who doesn't get his own way (IE - ripping up memberships, booeing) u may as well stay home, real supporters don't like u and neither does the club!
Well i have never bought a membership, i was either too young (family don't like football) or i never found it necessary...
This is where I stopped reading.
This is where I stopped reading.
Yeah well living in Perth the membership doesn't give me much, and its not like the team needs it at this point in time.....
I'd much rather save my money for a trip to Melbourne every year to watch the cats than buy a membership..

Maybe, but I bet the club appreciates the $200 for that membership. I've never thrown a membership over the fence but I've abused Geelong players when they stuff up. Rightly so in my opinion. They're fully professional after all. If the worst thing that happens is a few supporters deliver some home truths they're doing quite well.
I wouldn't have booed them off after Saturday's result, but I wouldn't have given them a standing ovation either.

Interesting thoughts above, heres mine:-
Mine being if your team loses by 10gls but puts in a good effort you should clap. Losses will always be disappointing, but there have to be some positives that can be taken out of one.
If they were terrible and weren't trying (prove it) then choose for yourself whether to clap or not. Constructive criticism ok, abuse no.
If you win, you beauty take it. Whether its 1 point or 100, you can always improve. Not to mention belt out the song and enjoy the 4pts.
If you lose, tear up your membership, abuse (verbal or physical) the players, coaches, staff, other supporters, trash the stadium then you ought to be placed in the Geelong tip. Or maybe the Barwon with some concrete boots. These sort of supporters are the pity of a football society. If this is you, how about taking up boxing or debating if you cant keep your trap shut or fists down.
Gota say Geelong fans, the majority are great. Like any team there are always a few idiots- you just have to see past them! Good luck next week. Keep cheering your boys on and stick by them.
Cheers

Please explain why a team that fails to make the finals should be applauded off. Half the competition manages to play finals, why should anything less than that be acknowledged as acceptable in any way? I'm not talking about hurling abuse at them, but I fail to see why I should be heaping praise on them either.
