VFL Finals: Sandringam Vs Geelong - 1.10pm @ TEAC Oval
Should be a cracker of a game, two sides that have had great years to this point in time. The Cats are in scintillating form, and the Zebras are coming off two successive flags and have the finals aura about them.
Match-ups? Thoughts? Predictions?
We have beaten them in the two encounters thus far in 2006...I'm going to back us in by three goals to have a weeks break and a ride into the Preliminary Final!
Go Cats! Make sure you get down to TEAC Oval on Saturday!

Lonners is a HUGE loss for out VFL flag hopes.
Someone will need to stand up and fill the hole.

Because the senior team was pretty much full of better players. Did they only really discover Lonergan could play in the backline in the 2nd half of the year or have I just never noticed?

No finals at K.P.All Geelong finals [win or lose this week] will be at TEAC Oval. The GF is at Optarse Oval [whatever it's called]

If it's a choice between them playing this week or playing VFL finals, drop them for sure. The finals experience is worth far more.

Hahaha.. yeah i believe that is the official name for it!! :D
Its a shame no finals are played down at KP. Anyway, hopefully this VFL side can make it thru and give us something to cheer about in September :thumbsu:

They were quoting sources at Geelong in Inside Football this week saying Lonergan was a great chance at winning the JJ Liston medal. Didn't name the sources though.

Surely you're not trying to compare a VFL Final to an AFL Home and Away game.
Play your best side in the AFL at all times.

No but playing an extra 2-3 games in the VFL finals may be worth more than playing one game of AFL, in playing pressure footy and for long season fitness, where their is nothing on the line ie neither hawks or cats are going to make the finals so no real incentive or pressure in the result of the one AFL game.
It would also be an indicator if they can stand up and assert themselves on a game in finals footy (moreso if they are directly opposed to other AFL aspirants)

I disagree. I mean what has the AFL side got to win for??? Pretty much NOTHING in the scheme of things. Whereas the VFL side has EVERYTHING to gain! It's finals time for them so I rekon stuff the snr team and go with the VFL. But thats just my opinion. ^_^

GOD luck Catters and Geelong fans in VFL finals.:thumbsu:
Sandy belted Bendigo Bombers on Sunday in the last VFL home and away round. But the Essendon Magoos are 2nd last on the ladder after playing in the VFL finals last year, so Sandy not stretched that hard.

Classic - love that rule that you can't have more than 12 AFL listed players playing in a final, unless you are Geelong, in which case you can have as many as you want.

Kelly can play whilst Geelong are still in the competing for the premiership (ie. Kelly can't play VFL football beyond this weeks QF)

Looks like Gamble will be given a run - he was training with the seniors today, as was Byrnes.

DOS the rule mean Sandy. can play only 12 Melb.-listed players this week ??

I gather, but they can play any 12 Melbourne listed players [i.e players like Neitz,Green,Bruce...etc] this week. They don't have to have qualified for VFL finals. The following game they have to have qualified to play VFl finals.
As I understand it, Sandy can play any 12 Melbourne listed players for as long as Melbourne are still in the finals. Only once Melbourne are knocked out of the finals do the eligibility requirements kick in. So they would be able to play any 12 Melbourne players (qualified or not) in their next game as well, since Melbourne will be around for the first week of the AFL finals at least.

I think the misconception is that the 12/10 rule actually disadvantages sides.
If you've got a reasonably strong VFL list then 12/10 is more likely to help you win a game.
Take Sandringham for example: Rigoni, Liddell, Lamb, Poyas, Summers, Crowe, Biddlecombe etc... all very experienced footballers who have played at a high level for most of their careers.
Would you rather these guys or first year draftees help you win a final?
yers rhombee but rigoni is a retired dees player so realistically on the sandy list as a vfl player only
he obviously is never going to play for the melb seniors again
