I love seeing the Hawks win and would rather that we won our next match against Geelong than lose it, but i'm allowed to also support Port/North/Brisbane for the remainder of the season at the same time aren't I? ;)

I don't get your drift, phil. We need those three to lose to consolidate our 11th position come season's end.

Don't tell me you are a member of the Hawthorn Abattoir Club in the dicey meat-market trade. Me, I support the Hawthorn Football Club to win games.

No, no Gary, what i'm saying is that i'd rather we win both our last two games (rather than people suggesting we lose games to get draft picks), but I wouldn't be adverse to seeing North, Port and Brisbane winning games. :p

I get your drift now, phil. As for North, Port and Brizzie ... whatever tickles your fancy.

Come now Gary, obviously you're not happy with that remark. So long as the boys win games and get 'that winning feeling' - it doesn't matter whether we come 9/10/11th?!

We'll have to agree to disagree, phil, mate.

Fair enough. ;)

I think I see where you're coming from Philhawk. You want the best of both worlds - wins, confidence, momentum AND pick 3! Nice idea, but it's not going to happen now.
I think we'll beat Geelong and get pick 6.

Always support Hawthorn to win.

The supposed depth of this draft is such that we should pick up a very good player with whatever pick we have in the draft. And let's not forget that the club isn't averse to trading established stars to get extra draft picks (Monstaa, Hay in 2004 and 2005).

Yes we have traded Croad, Thommo and Hay for extra picks in recent years. Who would we offer this year? Personally I'd be happy to trade Everitt and Smith, but their value is probably declining with age. I do not think there is anyone else with market value that I would be happy to let go.

Yeap, have to agree with the others here philhawk,

We have enough kids already, I'd rather we go for the win - we run the risk of over stocking up and having rival clubs poaching our players.

With a first round selection around the top 6. a second round pick around the top 24, and Josh Kennedy we'll have a pretty good chance to add some quality to our list come draft day regardless what happens in the last round.

Therefore it is extremely obvious that the best thing for us it to win, finish as high as possible, go into pre-season with a bit of momentum and belief that we can make some inroads next year with an outside shot at the 8.

Ellis, Muston, Tuck, Bailey, Dowler will be like new selections anyway after another pre-season and recovery from injuries in certain cases.

What is this risk of overstocking up that people keep going on about? Look at the potential delistees this year - miller, thurgood, ries, ball etc - no team in the afl would want them and highlights that we still have a way to go before we have a great list.

People seem to forget that every other team gets draft picks as well - we'll add the same number of youngsters to our list as most clubs come draft time. We might have injected some quailty in the last two drafts but what was there was basically deadwood/crap anyway so they have really only put our list back towards where it should have been rather than make it overflow with talent. We still need a lot more talent into our list before we can match the likes of west coast, freo, adelaide etc.

I think we are missing Phil's original point. He is arguing that we go for the win at all costs but we shouldn't be too unhappy if the other 3 have wins and get back above us!
