Having to watch the game on delay at home, because I start work before the end of the game.
Great to see us fight back the way we have but things could have been alot better in that first half.
Our rucks have been comprehensively thrashed so far.
Dean just has no power in the ruck duels atm. Clarke has beaten him in the taps, on the ground, in the clearances and in marking around the ground.
Ladey should ruck the second half with Broges resting up forward and bringing the ball to ground for Ebo and Bentley.
Bishop and Kingers - time is up boys. Kingers got alot of the ball, but had bombscare moments, none worse than that dropped mark from the kickin when V-B goaled. Bode has eaten him alive.
Bish is just awful. Even when he gets the ball, he releases it so late and sloppily, he just puts teammates under pressure.
I can't understand how JB can be so quiet. Shirley is being more creative and proactive at stoppages, while Shaun waits for his tagger to get the ball - it doesn't make sense.
Pearce - getting beaten by Van Berlo as well.
Mahoney is not half the player he was.
On a positive note:
Willits >> Thurstans. - moves pretty well and has some grunt.
Bentley oozes class.
Ebert is our most dangerous forward by a country mile.
Salopek is our best midfielder.
The team looks better with Chad at CHB.
Logan is having a go.
Thomas tackles superbly (and looks a more ready player than Lower).
The umps kept us in it along with the Crows scoring woes.
Chaplin has been outplayed on several occasions by Hentschel but is managing to keep his direct influence on the scoresheet to a minimum (so far).
I like our fight, but the inadequacies of our ruckman (Brogan) and our best two clearance players (JB and Pearce) and the inability of Bishop and Kingsley to apply physical pressure on their opponents has let us down.

Willits! boy...he is one big unit! Can be our gorilla FF we are looking out for???
Kingsley was great, but Bishop wasn't. That he didn't do so badly in the second half was more from a lack of need in the second half as it didn't go near him too much. Given his form and where our list is, he keeps on showing Wakelin should get another year and Bishop be delisted/retire.

Bish was poo again...
Of the young lads... Thomas, Pearce, Salopek, Bentley and Willits all really impressed me!
Logan went quiet in the second half.. Very, very quiet..?
Kinga deserves another year. IF there is a spot availble.
Bishop. Gone.

bishop is POOO
Re the discussion on Bishop, he did not have a great game, but IMO did some really good things at key times. B+

I called it as it was at halftime.
Brogan did not ruck well - he competed better after the break, but Lade also got himself involved in more contests.
Bishop gave us more run in the second half and spoiled better, but it doesn't excuse Welsh outbodying him when high balls come into their forward line.
Kingers won some clearances in the centresquare, but the criticism was that when he was matched up on Bode, he got beaten.
Pearce and JB did not have good first halves IMO. Pearce was exceptional after halftime, JB improved without ever really dominating.
All my other comments, I stand by. Bentley was great. Ebert and Salopek excelled. Chad was the matchwinner and saver in defence.
And.......our fight was excellent.
I'm allowed to comment on the state of the game at halftime aren't I, Pred?
Funny, if Macca had made those observations, he would have been lauded.

No idea what Macca has to do with it.

B+
C- at best, a few good spoils but he has no influence ont he attacking side of things and usually gets killed by his opponent.
Yeah, Bish is done for. Thank god he made that run in the last few moments of the game, but some of his work in contests, and when the ball hit the ground was embarassing, where he would just sit back and watch the ball. How lucky was he that Cornes or Chaplin was it, was on the goal line after a Monumental Stuff Up that handed the Crows the ball and a quick snap on goal in the third quarter.
Well played son, but time to move on.
Kingsley I would hope would be forced out on the sheer weight of younger players that offer more, not to mention those coming back.
C- at best, a few good spoilsYeah a few very good, timely spoils, and a couple of great runs.
but he has no influence ont he attacking side of things and usually gets killed by his opponent. You're speaking generally here.
I'd probably settle for dropping it down to a B.
Can't believe I'm defending Bishop on the Port board, thankless job. ;)

Dont worry, I agree with pretty much everything you wrote.

Lets not have any more gratuitous Bishop bashing in this thread, this thread is about oldies to be let go, not Bishop's poor form.

And my point was (lost perhaps in my halftime assessment) that I think it is time for Kingsley and Bishop both to be included in the list of 7 or so players to be let go of at season's end.
The Bish did a couple of useful things today, but a couple of times he was out bodied badly (but that's been happening for his whole career), does he know where the gym is?
Kingers certainly finds the footy but from then on it's pot luck as to what happens.
Wakes is become a worry, he was out marked by Van Berlo for f*ck sake, i hope he has another year but as every game goes by i think it's less likely. We probably have to be smarter with him. I was annoyed that he got left out v the WB but in hindsight was the correct decision, i reckon we can probably only play him against certain opposition. With Willits in the team it gives him(us) extra coverage against quick talls.
The obvious difference was The Chad at "CHB", it was lucky that the "Craig's crapheap" gameplan that they've has come up with played right into Choco's hands and they just kept on kicking to The Chad uncontested.
One thing for sure is there is not enough room on our list for all 5 of Bishop, Kingers, Walsh, Wakelin & Wilson, atleast one will go possibly two. I think keeping either Walsh or Kingers is warranted for depth with Wakes also suriving on restricted duties. Wilbur should go on unless he decides otherwise.

Is this an original of yours, Eago? Brought a chuckle.

I would think that Wakelin will remain on the list for 2007 but I feel he will only be used sparingly, all dependant on the match ups with other teams rather than being one of the first players chosen.
The Western Bulldogs game is a good example of this as well as the third quarter in todays game as there was no good match up.

You can't really lump those five together though. 2 are KPP's and 3 are small backs. I think only three should stay, BUT only one of Wakelin and Bishop and only two of Walsh, Kingsley and Wilson.

I was more talking about their ages rather than their position. Obviously we wont keep Walsh, Kingers & Wilson and let the two big guys go.
Should really be we'll keep one of Wakes/Bishop and two of Kingers/Walsh/Wilbur.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bishop. I will never ever forget his run along the boundary in our premiership win, during a critical period of the 3rd quarter.
But it is time to face facts not just for Bishop, but for a couple of others as well.
Our last line of defence on Sunday read as follows: Bishop, Wakelin, Kingsley.
All premiership players, all reliable. But I'm wondering, given the team's approach to re-building, how long will they be around for? I can't see Kingsley or Bishop being part of the teanm next season. Wakelin I give 2 more years.
Don't know if it has been suggested on here before, but why not try Thurstans in the back. He ain't doing anything up forward, and Willits too seems comfortable in the back as well, he's played the last two years of his career there.
I'm basically trying to avoid the Lillee-Marsh-Chappel retirement syndrome. They all go at the same time and then suddenly there is a gaping hole in defence. Play Thurstans alongside Wakelin, our best ever defender, for a season next year and see how he goes.
and logan went missing for the second half.
Logan went quiet in the second half.. Very, very quiet..?
Logan went off injured very early in the 3rd quarter with an ankle injury i believe? Did nto come back on
In regards to Wakelin, especially being outmarked by Van Berlo, Wakelin was not outbodied, he lost his balance. There was minimal contact from van berlo, and from memory i think Wakes foot might have even got caught on VB's. Either way, it definately wasn't body on body pushing that caused him to fall, it was that he lost balance. Nothing to worry about i wouldn't think. Just unlucky.

Kingsley to coach (http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,20287581-21545,00.html)? from the tiser.

PORT Adelaide veteran Adam Kingsley has the coaching bug. And next month, when Power coach Mark Williams calls the 31-year-old to his office, he might be asking Kingsley what he can offer to Port's rebuilding program as a specialist coach rather than as a player.
etc...
On a positive note, it's the Bish's 150th game this weekend and dare we say last??
