I really hope Clarkson puts him in. For once, screw team structure, JB deserves it!

When you think about it,

He doesn't try to screw the club and leave on his own terms (See Jade Rawlings)

He doesn't try to rig raffle tickets/demand a 2 year contract (See Spida)

Doesn't demand to get put on a whopping 4 year deal only to sit out three of those year (well he was injured, but not that long ;) - See Nick Holland)

Didn't have a whinge when he didn't make it into the team/claim to be depressed while the team wasn't winning (See Hay/Thompson),

Is one of the best Hawthorn players in the past decade to don the brown and gold (big call), but I really admire everything he's done for the club.

Let's hope he has (is given) a ripper last game and is given a job to coach the forwards in the future.

Well done on a great career JB and we'll be sorry to see you retire. :(

As I wrote in another thread, IMO, it would be better to give John a farewell riding the boundary sitting aloft in a convertible before the game or half time rather than maybe humiliate him with a very much possible display of poor form.

That way the Cats' supporters also would have a better and more pronounced form of opportunity to honor one of the AFL's most affable gentleman, good bloke and team servant of our club.

Give him one last game, even if he plays most of the game on the bench.

You're a long time retired Gary...

JB deserves one final game. Please Clarko, give JB a game so we can send him off in style!

Clarkson will do everything for the team's benefit for the coming years. If he believes that winning is of most importance in the long term I doubt Barks will play.

If he feels that the team spirit and general feeling around the club would improve because of the feeling behind the game and looking after their mates is more of more benefit he will play Johnny.

I'm 50/50 each way.

Good post CS :thumbsu:

Im of the opinion we have been hard on the older players of late. No long term contracts and if you dont like it, you can walk. I move I fully support, but... on the other hand I think we should recognise those who have stayed and made the effort.

Secondly these young guys now in just a short space of time will be the JB's of tommorrow. I'd like to think when the time comes to make a decision do I stay at Hawks or go to big money elsewhere they look at the way the Hawks have treated them and stay. In part, its the way we treat players at the end of the playing days.

This match is in the scheme of things fairly insignificant so playing JB isnt really going to hurt the club in the long term. In fact I think it would benefit the club.

He is certainly past it but dont underestimate the value of bringing him in to inspire the players. If the respect for this man is as high in the playing group as many suggest then I would think the benefit of playing him would be massive.
Put him in IMO!

May I ask: does JB wish to play on Saturday?

Hawkk

No, but I'm sure he would love to play on Sunday, Gary ;)

I think it would boost team morale if John Barker was included in the team for one final match, it would give the young Hawkers something to play for, to have the chance to carry Barks off the ground in winning style!

Would be great to see him kick a couple of goals, could really be used to motivate the team.

Out Kane
In Barker
