View Full Version : Lonergan - Brave or Stupid?

Tom Lonergan - runs back with the flight of the ball and into Brad Miller at full speed. An act of supreme courage? Or crossing the line into reckless stupidity? I admire players that go in hard and don't shirk the physical stuff, but is there a line where players should be able to say that the risk of career ending injury is just to great to put their body on the line in a particular contest. After all, although we applaud such players for their courage, they do themselves and their team little good if they seriously injure themselves.

One of the most courages things i've seen on a football field, but he shouldn't have tried to mark in his hands, he had no protection near his ribs, and Miller had protected himself.

It is brave, it was an awesome display of courage, if his team mates showed courage like that this season they might be in the finals. Hopefully the young man recovers well.

given the situation (season on the line, not long to go, scores close, chance of melbourne scoring, which they did anyway after lonergan wasnt payed the mark) i say it was extreme courage

Cannot really call it stupid, if he had pulled out and not gotten the injury he would be getting a massive baking on these boards right now.

It was very brave, and very unfortunate.

Many people have run back with the flight, how was he to know that he was going to lose a kidney and end his career, if he did, he would have done a Josh Hunt. BRAVE.

One of the most courageous things I've ever seen on a footy field. Sadly, he's awesome courage has cost him his football career, which was only 7 games old.

brave. Hor can anyone call it stupid when everyone gave Josh Hunt criticism for pulling out of a marking contest

Exactly. Seems you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

One of, if not the bravest thing I have ever seen on a footy field. Unbelievable.

Anyone who seriously thinks otherwise is crazy...

Very, very courageous thing to do - hope he can recover fully and play AFL footy again, although his wellbeing is much more important at the moment. Its a serious shame for him to be in hospital because of that courage with only one kidney, good on him for his bravery:thumbsu: .
