My mate Gets think that everyone on here would take edwards of Kouta whether it would be in their prime or for their whole career. I have to disagree because Edwards could never just take a game by the scruff of the neck and win it, Kouta is one of a kind and could never be replaced.
Its Kouta Easily for me what a champ.

Why don't you just do Kouta v Jobe Watson.

I agree that Kouta could change the result of a game more dramatically than Edwards but if you measure their onfield contribution to their clubs over their careers Edwards would come out on top - easily.

Kouta has had 2 very good seasons (Champion seasons at that). Edwards at least 5.
Edwards for me

Edwards is very under rated & simply far more consistent than Kouta. So it's Edwards for me.

Edwards by a country mile, you ask any coach who they'd take out of the two and it would be Edwards.
Kouta's a good player, but Edwards is more valuable.

Edwards
I rate Koutofides the most overrated played of the last 12 years, while Edwards is the most underrated
Give me skill ,consistency and professionalism over some Greek guy that can pick the ball up with one hand

In their prime - Kouta without a doubt
Over career - Edwards

In the current? Edwards.
At peak, Kouta might be better, but he saw his peak for too little of his career.

Kouta by the length of the equator.
Kouta by a fair bit. Carlton fans can help me here, but i doubt he has had only 2 good seasons like Clay said. In 95 he was awesome, especially in the GF against Geelong. So what were 96-98 like?? We all know in 99 and 2000 he was the complete package. Assuming he was ok during some of the last 6 years when he wasn't injured?
Anyone hav e any stats. B&F results. Didn't he win one recently?
Wheres parrot when you need him?

It's a bit easier to win a B&F at Carlton than at the AFC mate :)

What has Edwards done as an player that puts him above Koutoufides?
Zero AA guernseys and best and fairests.
A joke of a thread and the clock is ticking for the Crows.
If you had put Van Berlo up against Koutaman in the poll then it would be a good thread.

Just like it's easier for Licuria to be judged the B & F ahead of Buckley?
Tyson Edwards came 3rd in the brownlow last year.
Fair to say he has matured far batter then Koutafififididies.
Quite embarassing for Kouta actually. :(

Kouta in his prime was great, but his prime didn't last for long.
Edwards by a long way.

No disrespect, but this is a silly poll, because Kouta at his peak was the best midfielder our game has ever seen- easily. Was impressed with his efforts V Pies. The weight of the anti-Carlton media, has clearly affected him, and getting the contract issues sorted early has been a great relief for him. On Sunday he lined up in the middle against several Pies small, slow, low-talent midfielders and totally dominated. Admittedly the Pies midfield is pretty ordinary, but it was nice to see some of Kouta’s trademark powerhouse clearances. I’m delighted he’ll play on next year. His experience will be invaluable to the top-shelf midfield talent we’re accumulating ie Marc Murphy, Andrew Walker, Bryce Gibbs, Simpson, Blackwell, Russell, Jackson etc etc. Don’t really rate the crows guy you mentioned. Probably a good contributor for the Crows. :)

Doesn't surprise me. You're in your own little world over there in Vic aren't you.

If your talking about careers surely, even with my Carlton bias, that would be Kouta.......easily! Even more so when talking about being in their prime. Unless you follow the Crows, which is fair enough, there's no other way you can vote, surely.

Edwards is a fantastic player. No doubt about it.
Just a little bit on Kouta from CSC
1997 and 1998 were quiet years by Kouta’s lofty standards but he re-emerged as a centre half back in 1999 coming second in Carlton’s best and fairest. In the 1999 preliminary final against an Essendon team that was close to unbackable Kouta produced an incandescent performance that will never be forgotten by anyone who saw it. After dominating the 3rd quarter Essendon looked likely to tear Cartlon apart in the final quarter and head in to the grand final as favourites. Parkin threw Kouta on to the ball. In a mesmerising last quarter Kouta snatched the game away from them. Gathering fourteen possessions and taking 7 marks Kouta was everywhere. A huge pack mark 15 metres out saw him slot a critical goal, one of two for the quarter. Later he went to the half back line taking game saving marks to add to the centre clearances that had kept up Carlton’s momentum as the quarter progressed. It is doubtful that any Carlton player has ever played a better quarter of footy than Kouta did that day and certainly not in such a big game. Essendon was deprived of a premiership its supporters thought was a certainty largely because of Kouta’s magnificent performance. The Essendon golden era where they dominated the competition for 3 years produced just the one premiership victory before they were superseded by the vastly superior Brisbane lineup in 2001.
2000 saw Kouta emerge as the best player in the AFL. He reached a level of performance very few AFL players have achieved.
Astonishing performances against the Swans and North Melbourne were backed up by a level of consistency throughout the year that saw him favourite for the Brownlow. In the round 11 match against North Melbourne he was paid the ultimate compliment when Wayne Carey started in the midfield as Kouta’s direct opponent. The move failed with Kouta picking up 38 possessions and kicking 5 goals. In round 20 Kouta injured his knee against Essendon killing his Brownlow chances and Carton’s chances of a premiership in one cruel moment.
Edwards doesn't deserve to polish Kouta's (at his best) boots.
You just have to watch the 99 prem. Ask the bombers fans. Edwards couldn't do that in his dreams (still a very good player)
And Collingwood fans. Show a little respect for a premiership footballer. The pies haven't had one since Glen Freeborn retired. :p

Kouta won the best and fairest in 2001 when Carlton finished fifth on the ladder and won it again in 2005 when he was also number one in the AFL for clearences.

Not in the mid to late 90's when carlton were winning, edwards they say is more consistent, I would hazard a guess that Kouta has more best and Fairests, more All Australians more abilty. The only reason you guys say he was inconsistent was because of his injuries, if he hadn't had those (in his prime) he would be included with the hirds buckleys and roo's.
He wasn't inconsistent with form just injury, how is that his fault???
Played about 5 years before edwards came to the competetion and was dominating, and still contributes alot to the team.
I mean what about onfield leadership doesn't that count for anything.
Edwards = common hack
Edwards a hack?
Pull the other one. And while you're there check the ladder buddy.

Edwards a hack?
Compared to Kouta he's a hack.
Edwards isn't a patch on McKay as a footballer and I'd pick Hanna ahead of Edwards.
He killed Wanganeen in one State of Origin game and was a regular selection for the Big V.

Well he is not a hack I was just saying that to get a rise out of you.
Still though I would put Kouta's best 5 years up against Edwards best 5 years any day. Your judgement is always clouded cause you think the sun shines out adelaides bum, they way they have been playing lately looks like somethng out of my bum.
Kouta still for me, matchwinning ability, crowd puller, hard ball gets, clearance, pack marks, speed, talent, lengevity in the game, better looking. Edwards is funnier though
Compared to Kouta he's a hack.

Gotta love it :D
Edwards a hack?....
No, I wouldn't say that. Just average, like most of the Crows list. The Crows recent H&A success is due to excellent fitness and preparation, rather than talent. Unfortunately talent becomes more important in finals, and that's the reason they always fail at the business end of the season. Expect this to happen again in 2006. :)

I can't believe some people on here. From 95 to 00 Kouta was one of the best players in the AFL, up there with Carey and Hird. He produced six great seasons, and two phenomenal seasons, only for that awesome momentum to come to a shocking halt when he did his knee in 2000. He also did his knee in 2001 too.
He isn't as good as he was today because of those knee injuries. Has Edwards had a season ending knee-injury? Or even two?
Rediculous poll. Kouta by the size of Australia.

We're getting a shot at Gibbs in the draft after they made the right decision on that issue, so who's the goose?

Agreed.
Kouta is well past it.
That's why the original poll was to judge who the better player IN THEIR PRIME.
Kouta is past it, and right now, Edwards is the better player. But Kouta was the most dominant player in his prime. No doubt about it. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just plain stupid.
So, in their prime, Kouta>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Edwards.
Please don't mention hacks in this thread.
Labelling a first year player, who hasn't even debuted yet is just ridiculous.
Have you ever seen him play? I doubt it-he certainly isn't a hack.

I live in adelaide fool, Kouta lead the league in Clearances just last year, and if you read back we were talking about the in the best 5 years of their career, not now
