View Full Version : Ins/outs - Match Ups V Melbourne
Guessing Grover will miss this week....hopefully I'mm wrong
OUT: Grover (inj), Hasleby (inj), Schammer
IN: Murphy or Polak, Webster, Medhurst
Schammer has been back to his usual poor disposal in last 2 weeks & for mine, just wasn't up to finals standard v Crows.
McPharlin onto Neitz
Hayden on Davey
Matt Carr tag Bruce
Parker on Robertson
Crowley tag Johnstone
Pavlich really needs to step up this week against Carroll...if he can manage 5-6 goals - WE WIN - SIMPLE. Medhurst to play only in spurts off the bench, but will supply more options across half forward, as clearly there were none against the Crows. Longmuir is the wildcard, if he can beat Holland & bag 3-4, that will be a HUGE bonus.
RUCK: Sandilands/MCarr/JCarr
Farmer, Longmuir, Murphy or Polak
Headland, Pavlich, Cook
Crowley, Bell, Black
Mundy, Parker, Johnson
Hayden, McPharlin, Dodd
BENCH: Webster, Peake, Medhurst, McManus

Longmuir was very disappointing for mine !!
I wouldn't drop Schammer, but would bench him and give him a word or two.
Webster & polak in, Haze & Grover out.
Murphy emergency !!

OUT: Hasleby, Grover (both injured)
IN: Murphy, Webster
Webster was just about best afield for us in the 2003 final vs Essendon! I think he should definitely come in for hase. Polak in for Grover as he may be needed as a loose marking option to help out with Neitz?

I agree with Webster in for Hase. Even though he didn't get a chance to play on the weekend, he is in a better place fitness-wise than Hase was coming into the crows game.
I would bring in Duff for Grover (if necessary). He played a blinder on the weekend, and would give us another running option coming out of the backline.

In comes murphy and webster for Haselby and Grover. It's really tough to judge players based on 1 bad game in conditions that were played on the weekend.
People judging Longmuir for not getting into the game, a game where Pav and Farmer didn't really break into the game due to starvation, with JLo playing at full foward why is it surprising that he didn't play well if the delivery wasn't there? If people want JLo out you might as well throw out Pav as well.

Just a question, who would take Yze if he went deep forward alongside Neitz, Robbo and Davey?

McPharlin - Neitz
Hayden - Davey
Parker - Robbo
Yze - Dodd
Actually I think Dodd is better suited to Green and Bruce leaving Mundy for Yze. Dodd and Crowley should do good jobs on Green and Bruce while Matty Carr can cover Johnstone. Josh Carr to play on McLean. I think we match up well.

I'm surprised some of you have gone with Polak ahead of Murphy. Murphy's form was superb prior to his injury and he is miles ahead of Polak IMHO.
It's a big game for Schammer, Dodd and Mundy this week. All 3 struggled under the added pressure of finals football, they need to prove they are up to it this week.

tell me the last time the kid hit someone on the chest...he changes games at the moment all right...just not in the right direction...not up to finals tempo with his decision making IMO...give me Webster or Medhurst across half forward any day

Webster did a good job on him last time they met and Yze floated forward on that occasion.

Hasleby is a loss but has had little impact for the bulk of our recent winning run. He will not be a big loss, though he would be huge plus if he was fit. Would have loved Browne to have come in for him, but with him injured I would look to Webster or Duffield. Would play different roles but have/add flexibility.
For Grover I would boost the forward line as it will expose melbourne's weakest area, their backline. Medhurst won't do that, a tall marking player will, so for me it is Polak or Murphy, and I would go for Murphy.

Schammer needs to play in this game. The finals experience will help in the future. He has played well this year, he doesn't always get it right but he tries hard and puts his body on the line. To contemplate Medhurst seems silly to me. Do you want a player who's been out of form to come back in a semi-final?

Medhurst kicked 6 goals in last Wafl game.
Ok, but when did he last play a good game for Freo? One good game in the WAFL doesn't warrant a call-up for an AFL semi-final.

Putting Medhurst in for Friday's game is a bit too much of a knee jerk reaction to his form at Claremont, leve in in the WAFL and don't risk it while our forward structure looks fine. Murphy would be a much better addition however.
