Are people here believers of 'needing finals experience to succeed in the finals'?

personally i think teams can still have an impact but what do you guys reckon?

History shows that team with experience do better than those with out. At least finals experience is needed within the leadership & coaching group. Strong leadership can be enough to pull through a young list, eg baby bombers, & current eagles.

What does "have an impact" mean?

If it means can a team with little finals experience win a final, then the answer is yes.

If it can it string as series of wins both home and on the road together against teams with finals experience, then that is asking a fair bit.

If it means can it win the Grand Final, the answer is still yes, but pretty unlikely to understate it.

I have seen teams playing like they are easily the best inform side in the comp then head into very big finals games against top opponents and bomb out. Brisbane in 1999 springs to mind quickly. West Coast 1991 is another. Port in 2001 and 2002 possibly.

Freo need to adapt their game plan to situations where they can't control it on their own terms to get the game to be controlled on their own terms, which is why I think they failed dismally against adelaide on Saturday and Essendon in 2003.
