That ain't confirmed. If it were confirmed ther'd be other names supplied as well cos they aren't gonna be the only pies delistings of the year. Expect Fanning to be 'boned'.
Wells delisting is interesting given he was a highish pick at 22 in 2004.
Did he have the ability? Not have the attitude?

Are you, or they, insane?

Bonnadio,Sugars,Elliott and (Redden) Craigy has said goodbye to them. Nothing to do with insanity, just a big draft coming up and making room for lots of picks.....maybe they will be given a go with another club. ;)

No. Rookies contracts are offered year by year unless the player is under 18 on December 31 leading into the upcoming season in which case they get 2 years. This year all clubs must have a minimum of 4 rookies.

If the player is under 18 on December 31 he is not elligable to be rookied.
Players can be offered 1 or 2 year rookie list deals as I understand it, but you'd be made to offer anymore than 1.
It used to be an interstater got 2, an international 3 and a local 1. That all got scrapped (except maybe internationals).
A rookie list contract can be extended for a 2nd year. New rule change this year is that a guy can be on the rookie list of one club for 3 years without having to be re-rookie-drafted.

thanks for clearing that up weaver
So what the criteria for Rookies?
Age, Games played, location?
What;s the maximum age or games played before you can't be rookie listed anymore?

Spent almost all of his time in Werribee second side, looked out of his depth in VFL seniors. Also a recently diagnosed problem with his eyesight.
We have other developing young talls who are a couple of years away (or recovering from knee recos).
Tom Davidson (our only rookie) wont be drafted either.

hmm another danyle Pearce

Location is largely irrelevant.
The first stage of the rookie draft sees Sydney (NSW/ACT) and Brisbane (QLD) able to rookie-list locals. After that it is open slather.
If a kid is elligable for another year of under-18 football he is not elligable for a rookie list - he has to go back and play that last year of juniors. Only over-18s can be rookie listed.
Games played used to be a requirement but I don't think it is anymore (might be). Basically a guy has to be 23 or under. Richmond took Jeremy Humm who turned 23 in January this year, had been on the Eagles list for 6 years and played 20+ games.
Clubs will be able to have one over-23 player next season.

Thanx a lot. Also, what happens with the 14/15/16 year olds that were picked up from NSW, as part of the AFL's push into Sydney. Can they be put straight onto the Rookie/Seniour list, or do they have to go in the draft? And what happens with their contracts? Do they get 1 or 2 years, or as many as the club see's fit?
Fabulous

The wording in AFL Rules are:
ELIGIBILITY
Players must be 18 on or before April 30 the year following a National Draft. Players who are not 18 before December 31 of a draft year (17 and a half) must be contracted for a minimum of two years.
This may have changed but it is still on the AFL site. Weaver I think you are right though.

That age restriction applied to the draft proper, not the rookie draft.
17.5 year olds are elligable for the main draft. The two year contract bit is obsolete because now ALL draftees (unless they have previously been listed or rookied) get a two year deal.
Rookie list guys have to be over 18.
Didn't Bonnadio kick 8 or something crazy like that only a week or two ago in the SANFL?
yes... but that was about all he did all year... i hope that elliot might get a go somewhere else... is a very good footballer

Did Craig delist them all for the Rookie draft? Is that going to be good as well this year?

Happy to be told I'm wrong, but that's not how I've understood the system works. I thought that the entire rookie draft occurs with all players on the open market, and then Sydney/Brisbane get their local picks at the end. The practical difference being that Sydney/Brisbane can't put dibs on them at the beginning. Certainly, in the printed lists of the rookie draft, in 2005 Sydney had the last 3 picks of the draft at 58-60 in which it took 3 locals. (I know that this doesn't make it impossible that they were pre-dibbed, but it makes it more unlikely.) In some ways a moot point at least for Sydney as other clubs exceedingly rarely rookie NSW/ACT youngsters. Perhaps more of a live issue for Brisbane.
If it works as you're suggesting, the rookie draft seems to be rather more legally iffy than the main draft.
PS I've posted elsewhere on this topic, but to talk of a 'bumper rookie draft', or for that matter 'a bumper deep draft' (post, say, pick 30) is just wishful thinking (aka nonsense). With only the natural variation that you would expect in any human endeavour involving a large number of bodies, the rookie draft and the latter part of the national draft will be more or less the same on the talent-o-meter in any given year.
well the talent is supposed to run deep in this draft so maybe there will be a few gems in the rookie draft... he did delist them all because none of them are anywhere near afl yet, a couple of them may be late bloomers in the porplyzia mould

Add Elijah Ware, James Ezard and Matthew Bishop to the list.
Surprised at Ezard, crows should have a look at him I think good kid. Ware has bucketloads of class and talent but has no committment at all to further his career which is a big shame.
Bishop...well about time.

Discounted far too early. Excellent athletic ability but no doubt is a FOOTBALLER. Played some very solid games this year in SANFL and SANFL ressies, ran opponents into the ground and his skills are impressive, powerful marking. Other clubs will be mad not to at least enquire about him.

I think you'll find the confirmed WB delistings to date are as follows:
- Brad Murphy
- Kieran McGuiness
- Jesse Wells
- Tom Davidson (was a rookie)
The above join Rohan Smith (retired) and Shane Birss (traded to St. Kilda) as departures from Whitten Oval since the conclusion of the 06 season.
Dylan Addison HAS NOT been (and will not be) delisted... managed to make it into the senior side for a couple of games yowards the end of the year and is highly regarded by the club (as evidenced by Johnno's rev-up speech prior to his Addison's first senior match vs the crows)... won't be going anywhere.
I would expect one of either Tim Walsh or Adam Morgan to also be delisted in the near future, dependant on the number of picks Scott Clayton wants to have in the National Draft.
