sijDo you mean Saint Kilda, Sij? It was stated in this report of 'possible' candidates; http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20398933-2,00.html
....Assistant coaches John Longmire (Sydney), Mark Harvey (Fremantle) and present Saints assistant Matt Rendell are the early candidates to take over from Thomas.

Of course they are going to throw up the names of high profile assistant coaches from Victoria. Peter Sumich would be one who'd be likely to put his hand up - it's very well known he's after a senior position and believes he's ready for it, but because he's over here and not a Victorian, the journo putting the story together wouldn't have thought to include him.
No doubt there's a clause in Harvey's contract that he would be released from Freo if a senior position was offered to him. Pesonally, I hope he hangs around for another year or two before heading back East.
We seem to have the best mix of coaching staff we have ever had, who seem to be gelling together in perfect harmony resulting in the team really getting its act togther. I don't care who is pulling the strings but the results speak for themselves, lets hope the freo hierarchy help to keep this team together for a number of years to come and hopefully with it success for the team will follow.

If there's talk Vossy is going to coach and he hasn't even retired yet I'd say all rumours are quite premature.

What has Harvey done?I cant see what differance he has made and I dont think the defence is any better than the last three years when waterman did it.

i strongly hope he stays at freo we have plenty of young talent who seems to listen to him look at our backline improvement, he can have a huge impact to our team

With Cresswell now being investigated:

There could now be more chance of Harvey being targetted! Hope not!

I agree with you Bengals,How quickly we forget.Remember when under Waterman we had the backline of nobodys ,and we were full of praise for them.
I am not saying that Harvey has not done HIS JOB since he has been here but by no way is he the Messiah that people seem to think he is.And remember he has a bloody good group of kids to teach as well. But in the nobody era we still had Parker,Grover,McPharlin& Hayden so what has he done different to Waterman? We have if you like upgraded a couple of the kids but basically it is the same backline as previously stated only really missing Hadrill.
HE HAS DONE HIS JOB is all.
I am sure he will have an out clause in his contract and good luck to him if he decides to take the coaching offer at the Saints,
For the love of Jesus....WE CAN'T LET HARVEY GO ANYWARE!!!
Exactly why would anyone want to be head coach....

To quote Kim Hughes. 'Assistant coaches have it pretty good. All care and no responsibility.'
But like most people he is probably confident and ambitious and would jump at the opportunity to get a head job.

I thought in the 1 game that really mattered (a final) the defense did sensationally on the weekend given the pressure it was put under. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Harvey the defensive coach? Do you not see the difference? Blind Freddy could see that surely.

Wombat what I am saying is that Waterman did exactly the same with the same players. Our defence has never been a problem in the last few years.
Harvey has basically the same players as Waterman had,so whu has he done any better.Oh and by the way Waterman had Johson for one year.In that year he only played 11 games.
As I said Harvey has done the same job as Waterman but no better.
And I agree with you dugreene why wouldn't he jump at a head job.

The last few years we haven't played in finals. Look not only to last weekends game but the games leading into the past 10 weeks. They held West Coast goalless for how long?
Btw who's getting the head job?

What we are saying is there has been no dramatic change since he has started doing the job and the defence hasnt been the problem making finals.I do believe waterman will be good enough to be a head coach.
Harvey runs the team and is the key in the turn around of fortunes of the club. Send Connolly to St Kilda and make Harvey head coach at Freo.

I really don't understand why some people are intent on sticking the knife into CC. You obviously have no idea about what goes on in the coaching department, so why make statements like that?

waterman may have had an input in the improvement but harvey has brought out confidence in the young brigade, and told them to take risk and some flare in our defence.

Agreed.
Harvey has the best media spin doctors around, because he may have straightened up our backline but has CC been asleep all that time ?. Coaching is now done by a group, how the heck do we know what happens inside the club?.
Backline 2003 v backline 2006 ?. The "no names" did pretty well, how time frazzles our memoy.
Sure Harvey may be doing a good job in his area, but if CC takes the flack, he must also get the pats on the back.

Being the Coach means that you manage assistants amongst other things, which is very different from being responsible for one area of the team.
What is more impressive than Harvey's work with our already respectable backline has been the work with our midfield, which has been a problem area.
And what is even more impressive than the the work with our midfield has been the work with our assistants to get the team playing cohesively; take a bow CC.
After being there for 4 odd years and getting nowhere is the reason I reckon he is a useless coach. Good bloke but not an AFL winning coach. There has been player conflicts etc etc
What I heard is that after the mid season break (after Geelong gave us a thumping) and everything was indicating a path to failure again, Harvey was put in charge of the players and CC took a backseat. What I know is that, if you wanted to get a game you had to convince Harvey not CC.
That is my understanding where Freo is today and not because CC did anything magic to bring around the nine wins in a row.
For years - I have always posted that he is a usless coach and nothing has changed my opinion of that. Harvey is the man that has made the difference.
He goes, we are back to square one.
