PC28

Half Time Wrap

After a tough even start, the Bulldogs faded badly in the start of the second allowing Freo to kick 4 unanswered goals. I always believed that Freo would hit the ground running. A lot to prove.

Farmer is having a field day and has had several players on him, but finished with the kid Birss having a go. Farmer needs to be stopped if the Bulldogs want to win.

The Bulldogs havn't had much to get excited about. Johnson & Smith are play average games, Brown the same.

Bandy has done very little, and was moved into the ruck during the second quarter, allowing Darcy to move forward.

Injuries to Dimma & Garlick a concern for the Bulldogs (& PC!!)

Grant didn't start, pulling out in the 11th hour

Bartlett in the backline has done little, and personally, i believe we should let Murf take over across half back

The Bulldogs should throw some kids on and let them run and see what they can do.

If the Bulldogs are to win, they'll need to get more out of Bandy, Hunter, Brown, Guido & Bowden...

Lets see how the second half unfolds...

Croad is playing well. Handful for the doggies, but underused by Freo IMO. Should be looking for him a little bit more, but all in all, not a bad game.

Garlick kicks to the offensive 50, freo clear to the wing, turn over, hang to brown to robbo to brown, finds smith 50 out, 35 degree angle

goes back, has a shot, beautiful kick, goal, 14 down...

need a quick goal now to get back into game

Post Match

The Bulldogs were with out three of their more senior players tonight, and without making excuses, we were missing a in and under type Libba & Grants leadership.

Bowden played a good second half, inparticular, third quarter. He was playing across half back, and looked really good.

Guido also played a good second half. He has some of the best skills i've seen and i look forward to a great season from him

Picken looks to be a good option up forward. He looks good when kicking. Very confident up forward. Looks to be a fine replacement for Huddo

Rusca wasn't on the field long enough for me to really comment. Had very few touches for very few minutes. Will look for more from him in the furture.

Murf also didn't spend much time on the ground. Looked good when on, but needs more game time.

Jordaman. Well what can i say. Not one of his better games. Was caught on far too many occasions, and spend most of the second half on the bench.

Aaron James doesn't look confident at all. Potentially, he could be the missing link up forward, but just lacks confidence. Maybe with Grant next to him, will improve. Copped an earful from Smith during the last!!

Bartlett down back? No, not a good move at all. He doesn't hold the strong marks and is made to look bad constantly.

Hunter was good. Played in the back, occassionally drifting forward, and kicked a goal. A usual Kinga game

Dimma played in the middle and played fair. Had a lot of the ball, and his disposal looks to have improved.

Johnno, fantatic as always. Everywhere. A real leader. My tip for the brownlow.

Brown was quiet. Needs to get involved more. Kick a goal or two, but needed to hit the midfield a little more.

I hope you've all enjoyed tonights game.

I will be around for a little while long to answer any questions.

1. No, didn't see him. They didn't put the team up in possies like Channel 7 did

2. No, same as above

3. Gilbee started off well and faded out. Spell on the bench too. I was impressed early though

4. Not every time. Shocking kicks sometimes. Was too bad. Gets a lot of the ball. Needs to learn to get it off more smartly

5. Good first and third quarter. Didn't see much other wise. Looks like he could be a good option up forward too.

6. Good question. Not sure. Seemed to always be on his own. Maybe he was loose man in defence...

7. Did a few good things. Got a little bit of the ball did a few good things. Look forward to seeing more of him.

I'll pick up the paper in the morning and all the guys who i said didn't get much of the ball will have 20 odd touches!! lol

I don't know if picken will be a fine replacement for Huddo. He didn't get much of the ball to be honest I didn't see much in his performance. But hopefully first impressions are wrong for me and he does a bit more over the next couple of weeks.

And I know I have said it before but play Hunter forward. James did absolutely nothing forward and I can only remember one kick for the night when he hit a leading Garlo. Hunter played back and kicked more goals the James.

And does anyone know why Eagleton didn't play, is he injured?

Didn't see everything the same as PC so here's my view:

Rusca - only on last 1/4 - nothing to report
Murphy - not on long - got in the play but looked a bit out of touch
Garlick - got plenty of it - did very little with it - frustrating
Smith - did ok, we need more though
Johnno - a good game without being dominant
Hahn - only on last 1/4 - good attack on the ball - got in the play
Gilbee - good start, may have got an early knock, off a while and faded
Bandy - played alright - looked promising - a bit there
Giansiracusa - off or quiet a bit in the middle, but a good, classy effort the rest
Darcy - poor game - poor in the ruck - non-existant around the ground
Brown - our best all day I thought
Bartlett - did a couple of decent things - more than negated by the fact that at least half Freos goals went through him - an Ellis type of game - still not good enough
Picken - played about 1/2, nothing got me excited
Bowden - biggest positive of the night - very good all game I thought - some poor disposal early but good later
Wiggins - very disappointing in my view - never in it
Harrison - ok
McMahon - poor, in a word
Hunter - very good on the rebound - would rather see him forward - looked like the 2001 model not the 2000 - still looked to be lacking a bit of confidence to really attack the contest
James - nothing - no-one at Richmond will be sleeping uneasily tonight
Dimma - did a bit - not quite enough
Robbins - almost a good player - just doesn't have the vision of others when in tight and in trouble
Hargrave - did a bit and looked alright - wasn't sure how much he was on
Kretiuk - good game - beat Waterhouse - Freo looked to go through Clive quite a bit without much joy thanks to Kretta, they had more luck through Bartlett
Birss - wasn't on alot but got involved when he was - not enough to tell

My best in order - Brown, Bowden, Guido, Johnno, Kretta, Bandy, Smith.

Most disappointing - Darcy, McMahon, Wiggins, James

Most frustrating - Garlick

Please don't play - Bartlett

An average effort really. Got the ball enough but turned it over too easily. No-one looked good down forward.

Positives - Bowden looked good. Guido may take another step up. Bandy looked promising. And Kretta's back.

But with Grant, West, Croft, Penny, Libba and Eagle out, there's plenty to come still.

No need to despair.

I generally agree with K9, but this is how I saw it:

Rusca - barely on

Murphy - little chances, but was dissapointing. Nothing to worry about though

Garlick - messed up a few times, but I thought he was one of the better players out there

Smith - not too bad

Johnno - Not great.

Hahn - had a very good quarter. I think he looked like this could be the year he steps up

Gilbee - although he faded, he left me thinking he could be a regular this year

Bandy - very happy with him, specially the second half

Giansiracusa - not a great game.

Darcy - dissapointing, but it doesn't really matter now. Will no doubt be a gun again this year

Brown - was good when he got it and was one of our better players. I wouldn't say he was our best though

Bartlett - he got the ball, which he doesn't do up forward. Had a couple kicked on him which was a problem and made some mistakes. I think we still try him there though, as he is strong and not too bad in the air. And he can't be blamed for the Farmer goal

Picken - kicked a nice goal (I think) Didn't get it much, but he might be alright

Bowden - agree with K9. Apart from some early stuffs up looked brilliant

Wiggins - ordinary

Harrison - I thought he was probably our best. As he always did, he did everything he had to, and kicked long and accurately

McMahon - had a complete shocker. Didn't know what to do on the rare times he touched the pill

Hunter - As always, played pretty well. I don't know what this 2000/2001 version stuff is, because I think he has been good for the last 2 years. Wallace told him last year was his best season and although I disagree I don't think his attack has changed one bit. Should however, have went up forward when James couldn't get a touch

James - I love the man. Won't talk about his game though

Dimma - got plenty of the ball in the centre, but kicked it blindly

Robbins - I thought he was terrible. Buggered up whenever he got it

Hargrave - not a great game, but he showed a little bit

Kretiuk - killed Waterhouse, and is apparently the fittest he's been in years. I think he's in for a big one

Birss - eh, dunno. Not many chances

My best in order - Harro, Bowden, Kritter

Most disappointing - McMahon, Robbins

Most frustrating - Robbins, Big Bad Trent

Played crap. Undermanned. Doesn't matter right now

I had fun doing the posting of the game.

Hope everyone enjoyed reading it though

Certainly did PC, even if it was after I had watched the game. Sensational effort.
