Hey Sainters,

Just wanted to know what you guys thought of Fergus Watts.

I like him. I think he has alot of potential as a big key forward. A forwardline of Riewoldt at CHF, Gehrig at FF, Milne in the FP and Watts as another forward option in the other pocket next to Fraser gives the Saints another tall option to go to up forward. I would love him at Carlton though.

Thoughts??

Swap you for Fevola if you rate him that highly!

I think he was brought in to be developed as Gehrig winds down. Definitely a long term prospect. He looked a bit overwhelmed in this first game when he got injured, but I guess you can not hold that against the bloke.

Fergus Watts will be gehrig's eventual replacement at FF.

A great mark and kick of the footy, not sure on his speed and strength though.

Yeh, he is definately Gehrig's long term replacement at full-forward. He is only 21 and hopefully we can get some games into him next year so that he will be able to come straight in after Gehrig retires and contribute, even if not that much.

Don't forget Brooks - he may just have a claim to Gehrig's spot if he ends up being a better FF than ruckman (which may be on the cards).

I think we are more in need of a really big defender than another big forward. could Fergus end up in defence?

Love him at Carlton?

Kennedy, Waite and O'Hailpin have shown more pontential then Watts has

I wouldn't take him in a fit

Fergus was starting to show a bit in the SANFL before he requested to be traded to St Kilda last year (kicked 8 in a final (not GF)). Can play a bit. Might be a bit out of sort with Fev there next to him - similar type of leading forward.

I think you guys need whatever you can get your hands on. You have a few players at Carlton that wouldn't be getting a game anywhere else. More talent will put greater pressure on blokes to retain positions. This is where Carlton is struggling.

Which is why I believe that St.Kilda will hold onto him and groom him to take over from Gehrig when he decides to retire.

I'm sure that's the plan.

Tim Hawk is spot on too. Fergus kicked 10 goals in an SANFL final and the Crows supporters on here were very angry when he decided to leave. He didn't start the season off too well but surely you must allow the guy a bit of time to settle in. Sadly he didn't get the chance when he went down with what looked like a season ending injury. He at least got back to full fitness and finished the season off with VFL so with the benefit of a full pre-season I look forward to his progress.
