This is a guy that I'm a big fan of. He seems out of favour with the Melbourne coaching staff and will probably get delisted this year. Do you reckon he would be worth a crack if we had a pick in the PSD?
We don't really have the sort of player that really gets under the oppositions skin. We've got some good, tough players but we haven't got an angry ant like Phil Read. He didn't do much wrong in the AFL games he played this year and has been averaging over 35 possies per game in the VFL for the last five weeks, including a 46 stat performance a couple of weeks ago.
Has had hamstring problems in the past but seems to be over them and I believe he has been injury free this year.

No

He couldnt crack WC midfield and couldnt crack Melbournes with its kids. That tells me something

How about Judd,Hall, Reiwolt;) ,what would west coast want for Judd because he will definetly come back to vic before his career is over maybe next couple of years,it will be the trade of all trades i guess.

There is a reason Melbourne supporters ridicule this guy.

Phil Read would be a role player at whichever club he went to, which is something a lot of you guys seem to be looking past.

Robert Shirley doesn't exactly strike as someone who would be picked for his skills, but he is a regular member of our 22 because he fills a role on this team. Read would play a different role to Shirley as an antagonist, while Shirley is strictly a tagger. The two roles can co-exist on the same team.

We don't have a similar sort of player to Phil Read and I would love to see it (Thommo and Phil Read are nothing alike, except that they're both agressive). Just because the Melbourne coaching staff don't rate him doesn't mean he can't play AFL. The fact that they don't rate him doesn't deter me. Personally I wouldn't be looking at the fact he hasn't been able to crack the Melbourne side as a negative. Scott Stevens? Shane Tuck? Craig Bolton? Bit harsh to rate a player based on his inability to crack it at his previous club.

I've seen Phil Read play a fair bit. I like him and he would come at no cost, which is the only reason I bring it up.

At the very least I hope he gets picked up by someone because I reckon he's still got a bit to offer and something to prove.

Fair enough VC, but the tribe has spoken. Phil Read is the weakest link.

PS: I have a feeling I've fkd up there somewhere!!

If we got him in the PSD for zilch I would take him on second thought.

But is it was out of him and Kingsley up for grabs I would take the latter.

Why would you want him taking up a place on your list?

Are you struggling in the MF? No
Do you lack heart/strength in the MF? No
Do you ahve young talent pushing through? Yes

So why the ...would you want Read.

Just because your an annoying twat who is as likely to give up a 50 to lose the game as to win it.

Please - PSD you should simply say PASS.

I can't say drafting Phil Read would be on my agenda. Would prefer to devleop the young kids such as VB who have talent.

Why would you simply take a player because you got him for zilch. If he is not worth your lowest draft pick he is not worth taking...just say PASS!:thumbsd:

The big difference between Stevens and Read is their age.

Stevens is now 24 years old. When we traded for him three years ago he was 21. At that age it is still possible to improve.

Read is currently 26 years old, by trade week he will have turned 27. Ruckmen aside, there are few players who continue to improve at this point in their careers.

Read has been rejected by two clubs - West Coast and Melbourne. Adelaide have a surplus of players aged 27+ and are already struggling to find opportunities for their young midfielders. I just don't see the need to trade for a midfielder who would not add much to our playing list.

Bingo. We have a winner.
