Southport vrs Morningside play today at Southport, Prelim Final, will see a few draft camp players match up against each other.
Morningside have Armitige & Urqhuart (subject to fitness test)
Southport have K Tippett, H Kiel, B Renouf & J White (on bench of 7).
Should be a good contest winner to take on Zillmere next week in Grand Final at Carrara.
So if anyone hasn't seen these guys go to the game today. Conditions might be slightly wet with quite a bit of rain last night.
No chance you would want to give us that couldn't get there today an update on the players?

Southport won by 13 points goal after the siren, morningside were up 6 goals to 1 halfway through 2nd quarter, but just couldnt keep going.
first time seen Armitage play live, and first half was good, does a fair bit of running and run to position well two kicks ahead of play. Got niggled a bit by more experienced southport player on wing when morningside had ball in back pocket, lashed out kick reversed and goal to soutport. Second half went missing and spent a fair bit of time on bench in last quarter, but can see will be good pickup.
Urqhaurt played but used sparingly may still have injury, has great poise with footy and good kick. Didnt really see him run hard so not sure of his leg speed and certainly didnt run aerobically as much as Armitage.
Renouf, surprisingly played first 3 quarters full back, then went into ruck when game in the balance in last quarter and southport killed them with clearance. Aerobically can run all day, and should be used in ruck all day next week if southport want to win. Did a good job down back but better when on the ball. Run to position well and keeps presenting as an option. Will be a good pickup for a ruckman.
K Tippett kicked 4 and was most dominate forward for southport, took some good grabs, last one before siren was just pure strong hands out in front and kicked the final goal. Spent some time in the ruck and did well, morningside have a ruckman that reminds me of Val Perovic of the saints, he's huge, so was good to see tippett and renouf do well. Overall good game and will not really be considered a project player because he can play.
H Kiel had a very good game spent some time on armitage which was a good battle. Just run the lines well and kicked one sensational goal, and kicked another later on. He positions himself well and is creative and has the body to break the line when he put the jets on. Doesnt get mentioned here to much but I've seen a fair bit of him and petterd and both are very promising types. Kiel has been to draft camp last year, didnt get drafted but too young to get rookie listed, should figure in calculations as goal kicking forward or do tagging roles in backline like he did on rioli in 18's championship.
Overall good game and lots of good kids going around in QLD, can tell you though the umpires from this game wouldnt get drafted.

Thanks for that mate.
Can you describe, unbiasedly, what kind of a player Tippett is?
Pros ... Cons ...
What's his agility alike and is there room to improve?

Hopefully I dont come across as biased I just make comments on the players I see.
Tippett just has that will to want the footy and will try to get it at all costs.
PROS
Strong hands just big mitts
Agressive not afraid to hit packs take a few with him on the way
Has the body already, 200cm built very big and could play AFL next season
Fights to keep the ball in forward line and chases hard in forward line
Ruckwork like basketball, just gets up and palms it were he likes, as i said the morningside ruckman was just a huge unit
CONS
Needs to learn to position himself sometimes, he has definately learnt the art of using he body strength to push the backman out of the way but sometimes misread the flight of the ball today and looked for body contact and made it harder to mark where he could have dropped back and marked easily.
Kicking whilst very accurate gets a little to close to the mark and put pressure on himself, not a big deal though as I think he kicked 4.1
Aerobically he looks good will be interested to see draft camp results for beep & 3km, Renouf certainly a bigger tank at the moment, and speed pretty quick not lightning but once again my percerption from watching the game would like to see his 20 m sprint times.
Hopefully that is unbiased, I just think he is a very promising kid and potentially the highest drafted kid in QLD.

Cheers mate, but you think there is a chance he'll be drafted in front of Proud/Armitage?

Sorry forgot about Proud, probably not before him to be honest, but I do think before armitage but like everything comes down to teams needs. What are Collingwood & Swans and higher teams after, I mean west coast dont need any midfielders so do they strengthen there ruck/forward line.
I think from reading other people's views the top 6 seem to stand out but after that who knows. I cant comment on southern players as I have not seen them can only go on what people say, but Tippett is in the top 5 players from QLD who have been invited to draft camp.

Do you think Tippet could become a ruckman at AFL level? How is his ruckwork? Could he potentially be a better ruckman then Renouf

thanks for the update on Tippett - I have watched him a few times this year and said a month ago or so he would be a bolter.......for which I was bagged endlessly!

Game report from AFLQ website: http://www.aflq.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&aid=112180
Marc,
This is one area that tippett will improve the most in the ruck, as he probably hasnt had the development in this area and is using his natural basketball ability.
Renouf is an experienced and knowledgable ruckman and can do his work in the air then run to positions, and loves to push forward and try to kick goals. At this stage Renouf definately ahead, for the future I can definately see tippett improving out of sight especially when most clubs have ruck coaches.
