East Perth vs Claremont in the Grand Final next weekend
Fantastic game! It was a physical and tough and fast. We just ran over the top of East Freo. Sampey presented well, Leuenberger dominated the ruck, Macca was inspirational for the boys and Trigg good down back.
Cant wait till next week.

Excellent, hi quality game.
From a draft view my obs were:
Leuenberger: Is the real deal. Has just kept on blooming since his very good Carnival. This guy is an AFL Franchise player.
Moss: Disappointing on the surface. Unusual for him too as I rate him highly. I have a theory that it is not easy returning to colts from league. The tempo is different and over the years I have seen most players take a game or 2 to adjust. Will probably get BOG in GF.
Colbung: Usual in and under but got caught a bit adding weight to the above theory.
Sampey: Coming into the picture a bit. Under age player playing in a KP. Presented well. Does have next year in 18s carnival to impress also.
McCaullay: Pretty good although I am not sold on him.
McNamara: See above theory. Got in plenty again but disposal poor. Still in the hunt as a HBF / Tagger type.
Venturini: Underager who validated the State screening selection. Found out that he was sick before game so even more meritorious.
Brad D##k: Flashy but missed some opportunities that a player of his type should have nailed. Draft Camp invitee and on plenty of radars.
Nugent: Interesting. Saw him after the game with some form of chest playe strapped on. Made the diligent inquiries. Seems that since the 18s Carnival he has not been able to train due to a knee cartilege. Just been hanging in trying to win a flag. He played yesterday with a broken rib. Played OK and gave Leuey some opposition. Marked well.
Maston: Ineligible this year but highly rated. While digging around in the EF camp I found out that on Saturday he wasn't gpoing to be playing because he was so sick. Therefore a good effort in this game.
Looking forward to watching the talent going around in the GF.

In your opinion is Leunberger worth a top 3 pick?

In your opinion is Leunberger worth a top 3 pick?
Depends on the club. Substantially though YES.
Carlton - YES. Essendon - NO (Hille and Ryder), Brisbane - YES; Kangas - DUNNO. Geelong - YES, Bulldogs - YES, Collingwood - YES, Hawks - YES, Sydney - YES, Port - YES
The final order is not set until after trade week.
Kangas tenuous financial position seems to have given them a philosophy of NOW rather than building for 2-3 years and then fine tuning the team for a run of several years in the top echelon.

How do Ryder and Leunberger compare?
Did you watch much of Ryder last year?

Have watched both for a long time.
Ryder is a natural player who is gifted with leap, touch and temperament. A ruckman who can relieve at CHF.
Leuenberger is taller but incredibly athletic. Has stamina. Introduced to the game later in life than Paddy and not as instinctive. Thought that he was a bit soft early but those thoughts are disdappearing fast, I now believe that this was caused by a lack of technical skills that made him look ungainly on occasion.
Paddy bathed Leuey in last years colts finals in WA but Leuey has come a long way since. Essendon don't need Leuey because they have Paddy.
The 2 best ruck prospects produced in the country for the last 5 years - Bailey is probably third but I believe not in the class of these 2. They are Rolls Royces - Bailey a BMW.

Leunberger showed how much better he is than patrick ryder this year at 18s and in the last game leunberger can take many marks and get over 20 possesions unlike ryder. Had 3 possesions up to half time and ended up with 21 possesions 15 marks and a goal, and with his lift brought his team with him to win the game after trailing by a fair bit.

I suggest if Ryder was still playing 18's he'd dominate as he was still eligible.

from what you saw of Paddy Ryder, who would you think he would be most like in 3-4 years time? Please tell me he is an Adam Goodes type. Didn't really get enough game time for us to get a good picture.

Spit's younger brother, Simon. First year player not eligible this year. Been solid and watching for his next season.
Yes - same Leuenberger

Let's not get carried away. Ryder was the premier WA ruckman LAST YEAR as an underage player. Leuenberger was also in that team and played a minor support role. They are the same age. Ryder was taken early.
Ryder was outstanding in WAFL league after returning from Nationals - same as Leuey. Ryder has actually played several AFL games. It seems that unless players dominate from day 1 in the AFL - people are quick to label them as duds.
Leuey's career is following Ryder's almost line for line - and that is about right. IMHO

There is a third swallow brother - David. Is only 14 and as usual, the hype is that youngest will be the best.

takes a special ruckmen to ruck at 195cm in the AFL I dont think Ryder is that special to do that, and doesnt look to have to much potential as a CHF.
