Eade said the club would love to recruit a big key forward, in the mould of Brisbane's Jonathan Brown, but that was unlikely to happen.
He said the Bulldogs had made inquiries with Fremantle about young key position player Graham Polak, who has been the subject of trade speculation, but were told he was not on the market.
"We've been told they're not trading him ... so if you can find another one I'm happy to pursue it," he said.
Personally I'd be very happy with Polak staying (as I've said often). He seems to have matured & bulked up in the last few weeks. He didn't have a great preseason this year, I seem to remember, but I hope he can do a 'Crowley'/'Webster' and bounce back in 2007. I still believe he can add a lot to our side :thumbsu:

And yet the club prefered a much more mobile option in Webster, and earlier in the year, Gimore. And didn't they look good! As well as those two, Drum is surely going to get back into the forward line after a super impressive debut. Noticed you don't have Medhurst up there?
For me, neither Polak nor Medhurst would have improved us in the final, but Farren Ray would have. With both of them, I would be happy to see them stay on the list if they work their butts off to force their way into the team, but not for depth.
Not on the market? Get stuffed, he's not much good to us playing for East Fremantle. A club like the Dogs would probably tend to pay a bit over his worth as well because they've got f**k all KPP.
Probably get told to nick off, but I would have thought a polite enquiry about Farren Ray would be worth it.

Saying he is not on the market will drive his price up.
Don't trade him unless we get something really good in return ie first round draft pick.

Its not good to speculate on players while playing in finals footy. They will start asscessing trading options when we finish playing finals footy

I think this is the year the club owed Polak in his development as a development year. He was robbed of that by throwing him in too early. Great work by the club IMO.

Exactly
Freo probably played hard ball and chased Ray.
The trading game is one that changes constantly, right up untill the deal is done. I seem to remember Hawthorn saying Croad was off the market, that was untill the right deal was done.
If we have to throw in a pick with Polak to get Ray so be it.
The guy is going to waste in the WAFL, his value his plumetting.
Time to cut our losses.

Polak position
FREMANTLE young gun Graham Polak appears certain to ask for a trade the moment the Dockers' campaign is over. Polak has struggled to hold down a spot this season, and was a late withdrawal from Friday night's clash against Melbourne. He has played just once since round 14. Hawthorn appears one possible destination given Polak lived with Trent
Croad while he played at the Dockers, but lowly Carlton and Essendon — with a dearth of key position players — will back themselves in to push him through to the
December draft.

Its called speculation. Eade has stated he inquired about Polak, and was told, not available. I'd take that over the age trying to beat out a story.
The club has set Polak goals to reach before he is included in the 22 again. Namely his kicking. This could be the perfect wakeup call for Polak. He has amazing potential and he's worked hard while not in the team. His WAFL stats are very good.
I expect a big preseason from Walker and Polak who have both been pushed out of the 22.
Heard on Mondayitis that "Graham Polak has apparently said to the Dockers that he would like to be put up for trade at the end of this season due to a lack of opportunity".
Not sure where the guy heard it as he didn't say! Make of it what you will!
I'd hate to lose Polly because I think he's gonna be a star but it's a little unfair to such a talented player that he cannot even get a game with us! We're also bound to get a fair bit for him!

nah... Buddy! :thumbsu:
;)
If Polly wants to go because of lack of opportunity then c'est la vie. It's actually a crock that he has "a lack of opportunites". He's been given plenty of opportunities, plenty of chances, it's just that others in the KPP dept (Murphy & Johnson spring to mind) have overtaken him through grabbing their chances with both hands.
If he does go, then I would expect that there would be plenty of interest from clubs such as the Dogs, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond, possibly even Collingwood, Port, Brisbane. He may not have reached his full potential, but at age 22, with 80-90 games under his belt and just about the surest hands in the AFL.... well, he does have a fair bit of trade value.
That said, I hope he stays.

Won't happen. Signed a new deal about 2 months ago and loves the club and Melbourne.

I thought he still had another year to go on his contract ?

Quality journalism. And how exactly would they plan on doing that considering he's under contract until the end of 2007.

A lot of conflicting messages in the media. I still think Eade's statement holds more credibility than the 'heard from a guy who heard from a guy' speculation. If it is true that he is contracted untill 2007, I hope the club gives him that opportunity. I like what fat wombat said about this being a belated development year, I would be very pleased with the club if they work that way.
Let's not forget Polak only just turned 22, a year younger than Gilmore & Peake, and the same age as Johnson & Crowley. After his interrupted preseasons on '05 and '06, I believe a good preseason for '07 not only would give him the chance to show what he can bring to Freo if he wants to stay, but also can only 'up' his trading value if he shows he has matured from his off-field reputation. Did we not give a certain Anthony Grover (4 years older) a similar chance a few years back? And look how well that has turned out!:thumbsu:
Besides, contrary to many others, I don't think we need Ray or Wells.
(I also think we should hang on to Medders)

It sounds like you don't think we need anyone? While that may be so, I think you need to continually work to improve your squad, and that includes trading players where you can get value, and to rebalance a list.
At the moment Polak and Medhurst are fringe players for us, but could both make a best 22 at some other clubs. Or in other words, they may be worth more to another club than they are to us. On the other hand Wells (definitely) and Ray would strengthen an area we are not consistently strong in, and where we are going to lose players due to age in the near future. Having said that Wells would definitely not get traded, and Ray is also probably unlikely.

Polly is out of contract this year. The same day back in 2004 that McPharlap announced his 3 year deal (till 2007), Polly's 2 year deal (till 2006) was announced. Unfortunately.

I would be very happy to be wrong on this one! Hopefully it's 2007 - certainly appears that way from that article. That will mean two possibilities - either he stays or we get well compensated if he does go. No chance of the PSD being held over us. :thumbsu:
