It's probably about an hour and a half walk from the city. That would be quicker than trying to negotiate the traffic. ;)

Driving is best IMO.
If you are happy to leg it straight after the siren then catch the bus, but if you want a shed visit or just to stick around for more than 20min there is no choice.
To miss the traffic on the way in 1, get there real early (Have a BBQ), or 2, get there 5 minutes before the bounce (no cars around at all by then)
On the way out just go to the shed, by the time the players come over the traffic has gone.

My method, if driving:

Leave about 1.5 hours before game time. (You're coming about the same distance as me, but from a different direction). Make it 2 hours if you can, and because it's a huge crowd, just to be safe.

Go up Port Road. DO NOT turn on to West Lakes Boulevard. That way lies disaster :)

Stay on the right (on Port Road), avoid the West Lakes Bouelvard queue, and keep going up Port Road to Frederick Street. Turn left.

Head south along Frederick Street, across WL Boulevard, towards Seaton High.

Turn in to car park at Seaton High. Pay $6.

Walk to Footy Park (takes 10-15 minutes) or catch the free shuttle bus if you're lazy.

You should be at the ground at least 30 minutes before game time (if you left home 2 hours before game time).

Avoids all the hassle of the Footy Pk car parks. Worth the extra walk, especially after the game when it is much easier to get out.

I remember seeing a sign on Fredericks Rd when we played Freo, saying there would be roadworks at the end of Sept... I can't remember the specific dates it said, but something is telling me it said the 23rd...

The bus is overrated, and overpriced!

After years I have found my perfect route. Leave two hours before the game from TTG, straight down Mcintyre onto salisbury highway, follow this onto port road extension, all the way through Port Adelaide to Military road, turn left onto West Lakes Boulevard, and then right before the petrol station, takes met straight around all the traffic, and onto sportsman drive to my Grans place where I get free parking and meals. Hardly any stopping at all, except for the right hand turn off WLB. :thumbsu:

But by the time you find a park and walk to the ground you've missed the first 20 minutes.

To answer seriously, it all depends on how early you plan to get there and how patient you will be after the game. You should be warned that the later you get to the ground the further away you'll have to park. It is no exaggeration to say that some people park so far away that it would take 20 minutes or more to walk from their car to the ground. But if that doesn't faze you it should be a pleasant walk as long as you're not running late for the game.

Yeah, we either park in the Seaton High CP, or if we want a pre-match BBQ, we park in the Shed car park. By the time we come out of the shed after the game, traffic has dispersed. I have found the quickest way to drive is to drive down South Rd to Cross Rd, turn left, up towards Tapleys Hill Rd, drive that until Devonshire Av, after Fulham SC, which when you're in a rush can save 10 mins at the traffic lights. If you want to bypass some of the traffic going down Frederick Rd, turn down Beach St, and the first right, and follow Westmoreland down to Sunset Cr, and have bypassed about 15 more minutes of normal Friday night traffic. This isn't normally an issue, but when rushing from work, certainly gets you there on time.

How long does it take from airport-city then city-aami?

If you catch the bus from the city you could probably pull that trip off in under an hour (reasonably rough guess)
20 min to city. Busses leave pretty frequently from city.

prob 20 mins from Airport to city and then prob 20 from city to aami. airport and aami are pretty close though

Bus is the way to go, if you hate traffic.

About a 30 minute bus from town. People are talking crap if they think you cant stay in the shed afterwards if you want to catch the bus, just walk across the road to west lakes mall and catch one of the hundred busses that leave from there to town. Either that or catch a cab, if you split it with about 3 people its relatively cheap.

Since you have a few days I would go to www.whereisit.com.au and look for AAMI stadium.

Maybe print of the sheet and bring it with you, you can then have a bit of an adventure.

Should take you about 15 mins.

Take the main exit from the airport (there only one) turn left onto Sir Donald Bradman Drive and that will turn into Burbidge Road turn left on to Tapleys Hill Road and a few Kms down the road a sign will tell you to turn left onto West Lakes Boulevard.

15 mins max, $10 - $15 in a cab.

i like the seaton high tactic arrowman.Cheers - Works for me, getting to and from AAMI is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned, provided I leave home (Flagstaff Hill) about 1.5 hours before the game (add 15 minutes if it's a capacity crowd) - which is still a lot less than some seem to need. It's especially effective after the game, the exit from Seaton High gets you out to nearby roads such as Grange Road very quickly. I'm sure the 15 minute walk to the car is less than the wait to exit the AAMI car parks.

You'll need to watch out for the roadworks mentioned by Beck - coming from the south I haven't seen that sign but it wouldn't surprise me if the fools in charge of our road system would run roadworks at that time :) If that is the case, loop around to the south and come in from the Grange Road direction (which is what I do) - apart from Tapleys Hill Road the traffic is pretty good coming in that way.

We leave about 2.5-3 hours before the game, and park around the lake, or near the Frederick Rd/West Lakes Boulevard corner. Never an issue getting in or out after the game.

I took the bus from the City once - never again while Torrens Transit are running the buses (but that's more of a wider public transport issue than a footy issue - IMO the day Torrens Transit leaves the Adelaide Metro system is the day we'll have a functioning bus system).

15 minutes from the Airport to Footy Park on a game day? You have got to be kidding me. You can barely do that any day of the week let alone on a game day.

You also turn right onto Tapleys Hill Road ;)

He also asked how long it takes to get to the city from the airport and then to footy park, but hey apart from that your post was 100% correct, although I am not totally sure on Sir Donald Bradman drive turning into Burbridge road either, I think it is the same all the way down.

What about taking the Grange train and then walking from Albert Park station or even or even grange station.
