1. Place of Birth Caulfield, Victoria (moved to qld in '77)

2. Nickname as a kid and now As a kid that was evil, a teacher once decided to show up how silly using bad nicknames was and got the class to tell her all the names they used or had heard used about me .... by the time she filled up the blackboard she had kind of lost the point. Now ... Uncle Waz, Waz, Wazza, Sir Warren, and from some the White Knight.

3. Person you would most like to sit next to in a plane and why Peter Marshall (although he is kind of a little dead now!) - awesome communicator - nick was Twittering Birds Marshall 'cause if he was talking about the bird's singing you could hear them, if speaking about a sea journey the audience would be wiping the brine off their lips etc (and I love to communicate) - *and* he was the first adult I ever came across who loved playing games!!!!

4. Best thing you have done/bought for your mother or father For their 40th wedding anniversary we got a star named after them. Also been their friend.

5. Most memorable punishment from your parents and what was it for Don't remember what it was for but it was with a cane duster ... would have deserved it 'though!

6. Your best and worst memory from school? Best memory - strangely enough it was being caned! :D Two of us had failed to escape when the deputy principal caught us playing king of the mountain on the rag bags ... myself and this guy David who was the leader of one of the main gangs at school (primary school). I was first and it stung but no big deal - then David's turn and he started crying ... and kept crying while being told to stop crying *whack* stop crying *whack* etc. From that day on they never touched me again (I had had most valuable victim status). He and all his mates barracked for Collingwood (shock huh!) Worst memory ... probably the day I ran full speed into a goal post while trying to catch a cricket ball (spatial awareness was not my forte at that stage!)

7. Your dream dish (we mean food)? Roast dinner!

8. Your ultimate holiday destination? Anywhere my friends live - but for locale's sake that would be the UK, Ravenna, India...

9. The best practical joke you have ever played? Methinks I had better not divulge that one - but normally I get just as much pleasure out of the *thought* of it as the action of it.

10. What one talent do you wish you had? Talents I have in abundence ... actually spending the time and committment to make something of them is where I fall down :o

11.What would you never do again? Stay with an ex-friend up in Cairns - she went out the night I was leaving and deadlocked the door - had to climb out the second story balcony and work my way over to the next appartment to get out and to the plane!

12.What would be your ideal job? Public speaker / motivational teacher.

13. I would never leave the house without my? Mobile phone and sense of humour!

14. What is your motto?
"Never doubt in the shadows what was clear in the light."

"I am the master of my destiny and the captain of my fate ... not because I can control what circumstances come upon me but because I can choose which circumstances become a part of my world"

"Freedom is not the license to do whatever I please but the liberty to choose to do that which is right"

15. If you could change one part of the game or one rule, what would it be? Penalties given for bad acting:D

21. Favourite TV show? Lions games!

22. Least favourite TV show? Anything purporting to be 'reality' that patently is not!

23. Favourite piece of clothing? Not sure that I have one of those atm - I remember ones in the past that finally were laid to rest - normally shirts.

24. Favourite AFL media personality? The only ones I see are the ones who commentate the games and I am more listening to what they are saying than who is saying it ... so don't really have one.

25. What was the last meal you cooked? Would you believe sausages, mashed potatos and peas! :)

26. Scariest moment in your life? Definitely not suitable for a public forum - freaks out people in person and not going to inflict it on children et al on here. Normally I don't notice things are scary until afterwards as I am too busy paying attention to all of the details so I can tell the story properly afterwards!

27. Worst piece of advice ever given to you? At college "... somewhere you have picked up the concept of 'Warren the Invincible', that you can do things, that you are special - you have to forget that ... you must be like everyone else"

the lid was the problem!!!

just mix up the eggs and the milk cook for 2 mins, pull it out, give it a stir, another 2 mins, flutt it up leave it to cool for a minute and voila! Perfect everytime, no scraping frying pan or saucepan and no dodgy brown bits where it stuck to the bottom! (at least that's where I think they came from)

Nah KO'd him :) :thumbsu: Was quiet amusing, he kicked 4 goals against us in one quarter, so Isad' Stuff him". The umpires enjoy physical stuff in the junior WRFL.

We both flew in opposite directions, but my body placing and self-preservation instincts saved me luckily. I might add I am not some cannon-ball guy that is overly strong, I have got KO'd myself

Though I had a massive headache and my lungs hurt it was my highlight in a pretty rank season.

3. Person you would most like to sit next to in a plane and why Steve Waugh - my hero.

4. Best thing you have done/bought for your mother or father It's my mum's 50th in a couple of days so i better think of something. :p

5. Most memorable punishment from your parents and what was it for Where to start... If you have a younger brother (who is also your parents' favourite) you have a long list of these. Probably the worse thing i have done was tie my brother's ankles together with string and got him to bunjy-jump from our clothesline. I also broke every window in the house with either a footy or cricket ball.

6. Your best and worst memory from school? Best memory - definately all of year 12 was excellent - was the only year where i genuinely wanted to go to school every morning. Just catching up and talking with your mates every day was gold. You miss that when you leave school. Most of my favourite memories were of sporting events. Probably my favourite was during the GPS swimming champs. It had been raining heavily all week and the roads were flooded. Our buses had broken down a couple of times just getting to the event and we all had to get out and push them. When we finally arrived at Chandler, we were an hour late and soaked thorough to the bone. Some stiff lips at the door refused to let us enter until they had seen everyone's ticket. A mate behind me said "screw that" and with an almighty roar, 600 of us pushed through the gates chanting our school's name. Another great memory was in year 12 when we beat an undefeated BBC in rugby on their 100th birthday. We even sang them "Happy Birthday". Take that you toffs.

Worst memory - definately breaking my shoulder playing footy in the first game in year 10. That was the worst pain i have ever experienced. It took a while but i finally made it back the next year, only to snap my wrist in the first practice game.

7. Your dream dish (we mean food)? Can't go past a roast chook or a lasagna. Actually, i can't knock any dish my mum makes.

8. Your ultimate holiday destination? I would love to go to South America, France, or India. I'm already organising and saving up for my trip to the Ashes in 2009 (the year after i finish uni).

9. The best practical joke you have ever played? Any that we played on one of our mates at school who, if a piece of the sky fell, it would fall on him. I remember we hid his P.E clothes once and when he came down to get changed out of his normal uniform, we stole those as well. Don't worry - he got me back plenty of times.

10. What one talent do you wish you had? Enough talent to play top-level competition in any sport.

11.What would you never do again? Swim in the rivers up north. As kids we didn't care that much if we saw a croc but i wont be jumping back in there any time soon.

12.What would be your ideal job? Captain of the Australian cricket team or physio for the lions.

13. I would never leave the house without my? Mobile phone.

14. What is your motto?
Motto for uni: "Work hard now so you can play hard later".

Motto for life: "Step out of your comfort zone at least once every day" or "Only the pain of a hard workout can save you the agony of defeat".

16. Who is your favourite cartoon character? Gil from the Simpsons.

22. Least favourite TV show? Home & Away

23. Favourite piece of clothing? My plugas, old bears jumper, and tracky-dacks.

24. Favourite AFL media personality? Dennis Cometti and Bruce McAvaney

25. What was the last meal you cooked? It's easy to recognise because it is usually followed by the smoke alarm going off.

26. Scariest moment in your life? Being caught in a rip for an hour at the coast - i ended up on the next beach. Also breaking my shoulder. I remember getting crunched and as i was lying on the ground i couldn't feel my hand. I thought i had injured my spine.

27. Worst piece of advice ever given to you? Generally anything along the lines of "Hey Roo, have a sip of this..."

28. Biggest Regret? I don't like to think about this as it's too depressing. Not making any of the Grand Finals would be one of them - i'll be there for our next one though. ;)

29. All time favourite player? No-one gets close to Voss. I doubt we will ever see another player like him.

30. Current favourite player? Vossy, Power, Black and Nige.

People wish they could sing / play a music instrument and (whether divorced or not) have said they wouldn't get married again haha.

I am intruiged.

Ashli before we go any further, I may well be in the older brigade, for want of a better term, but I don't think I'm anywhere near as old John:D

I think some of the 'older'(I hate that term), read 'mature', posters mention their mums and dads in general, due to the fact that you learn to appreciate your parents more as you get older. Don't get me wrong, we love our parents when we are younger but I think we only really appreciate what they have done for us as we get 'more mature' - not older.:D

Ashli, I believe your birthady is coming up. If you can't cook, do yourself a favour and get someone to buy you some cooking lessons for a present. The last thing you want to do is get to the age of 60 plus and being as bad a cook as my mother-in-law:cool: . Just think in 2047, you could be on a sight similar to this answering the following question.

Biggest regret in life?- Not listening to Crispy Creme. I should know how to cook and serve a meal consisting of Stracciatella, followed by Pesce con Zucchini, with a dessert such as Zuppa Inglese.

If not, at least know how to do a lamb roast to perfection!:)

I wasn't making judgments on the parents thing, I just find it interesting how people's view of their parents and the concept of openly valueing them changes after being independant and having moved out for awhile. Most people's stance shifts from "they can be so embarassing and annoying" to "they have done so much for me, I didn't appreciate that enough and I wish I still had someone doing my washing and cooking now:p "

I have already figured out what I am getting for my birthday haha a couple months in advance but hey. However, I will promise to try and learn how to cook some basic things like a couple pasta dishes n my step mum was tellin me bout some sausage thing the other day that is apparently cheap and easy to make. I think I will stick to stuff I can pronounce though so that strac zucchini thing may have to go a miss!

City of God is on tonight on SBS at 10.00PM. I have read great things about this movie, I have not seen it so depends how the evening goes I may catch it my self. Although I am not a fan of Brazilian Realist Cinema.
Certainly is Realist Cinema irel. I must say Sherminator for a 14 year old your tastes in cinema are very mature and I do not mean that to be condescending. Stunning movie to say the least. Superb cinametography and the acting was top class. The script lost nothing in the English translation. Seeing it was based on a true story all I can say is that it has made me realise that if the sheer poverty and violence of the Rio slums is indicative of other large cities in Brazil in the 80's no wonder the nation struggled when it should have been thriving.

I like the term mature crispy. It has a hmmmm what word am I looking for?................. genteel...........a genteel feel to it:).

Your post reminded me of the famous saying by Mark Twain. "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years." I have noticed this even in my own lad who is only 18 next year. A couple of years back he was not so interested in what the old man had to say but now he is even borrowing my Belle & Sebastion CD's. Now that is backs Twain up 100% ;).

My name is Rohan.
I am 14 years old, yeah thats right.
I am fan of overseas movies. Japanese, Brazilian and Italian are my favourites.
I love cult movies (David Lynch's Dune, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive spring to mind)
I like fishing, lure fishing for bream.
I am 179cm, 62kg. That is big for my age?

Impressive. Twin peaks is also superb. Have you read Dune? For that matter the entire Dune series? I feel that Lynch's cinamematic adaptation of Dune was one of his few failures. The book's scope was near impossible to cover in a 2 hour moive.

Think it was about 4-6 hours but the studio cut it down , so the rumour is. And i heard somewhere that twin peaks s2 finally coming out on dvd ! woohoo!

At this point I thought I'll interject with an Oscar Hammerstein classic from the King and I. This should be the thread's theme song.

Now let's sing it all. All in harmony please. LL you can take Anna's role.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

Anna:
It's a very ancient saying,
But a true and honest thought,
That if you become a teacher,
By your pupils you'll be taught.
As a teacher I've been learning
(You'll forgive me if I boast)
And I've now become an expert,
On the subject I like most.

[Spoken]

Getting to know you.
[Children Giggle]
Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.
Getting to know you, putting it my way,
But nicely,
You are precisely,
My cup of tea.
[Children Giggle]

All [Except children]:
Getting to know you,
Getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you,
Getting to hope you like me.
Getting to know you, putting it my way,
But nicely,
You are precisely,

Anna:
My cup of tea.

All (including children):
Getting to know you,
Getting to feel free and easy.
When I am with you,
Getting to know what to say
Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day by day.
Getting to know you,
Getting to feel free and easy.
When I am with you,
Getting to know what to say
Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day by day.

Seeing as I posted it I guess I should really respond to it. This has been great reading thus far, thanks for taking the time to fill it in, kept my lunch time full of laughs!! I am also a bit scared that whilst some of us seem realy normal some of us are complete nutters!! :D

1. Place of Birth - London, England

2. Nickname as a kid and now - none as a kid but now I get Tommo, Pommy and Geezer

3. Person you would most like to sit next to in a plane and why - Matthew McConnaughey - why ermmmmm mile high club :o

4. Best thing you have done/bought for your mother or father - emigrated to Australia - seriously she loves it, misses me of course but loves teling her friends I am over here etc.

5. Most memorable punishment from your parents and what was it for.
I can't remember what it was for but I remember the punishment so clearly. I got home from school and my mum was on the phone. She was talking to a Mr Fisher who was from the naughty children's home and was booking me in to go there. The couldn't fit me in for a week but would come and pickme up the following Saturday. I was terrified. Mum kept it up all week but obviously felt bad as she took me out and bought me a new skirt (under the premise that I needed something decent to wear at the home). I remember being the most well behaved child all week and I can still re call the terror I felt sitting waiting that Saturday morning. Mum then said she would give me one more chance and called Mr Fisher to cancel the pick up. Mr Fisher or the home never existed it was all a rouse as I found out many many years later. But still to this day if I hear the name Mr Fisher I can recal that fear.

6. Your best and worst memory from school?
Best: going to the school dance in a specially made outfit dressed as Boy George. (it wasn't a fancy dress even but I guess I was just a bit weird. But the boy I fancied in the year above me was also a culture club fan it turned out so I got his attention!
Worst: getting the rep for being a hard nut when the school bully challenged me to a fight, becuase I wouldn't partner her in the tennis tournament, and I won!

7. Your dream dish (we mean food)?
My partner's roast or his fish pie are both awesome

8. Your ultimate holiday destination
Places I have been tht I would go back to in a heartbeat, Kenya, New York and Fiji. Want to go to the Maldives and Montana

9. best practical joke you have ever played
In a firm I worked for in London one of the partners lived a fair way out of London and had actually arranged to take a day off to complete his board papers - unfortunately for him it was Aprl 1st. So when I got into the office I called his house at about 8:30am and said Nick where are you? The board meeting started half an hour ago! Well after a stream of blasphemy and very blue conversational words he was convinced he had his diary wrong so said he would get there as soon as he could. We knew we had woken him up so figured it would take him at least half hour to shower and get dressed etc so called him back just after nine and all yelled April fool!!

10. What one talent do you wish you had
To teleport

11.What would you never do again
Get my feet massaged by one of the Lions trainers after a very big night on the town with the boys after the 2002 Grand final having lost my shoes (all Browny's fault!) and walking around Melbourne at 6am in the rain and freezing cold. I think he forgot that my little woman's foot was not a footy players, oh the pain!!

12.What would be your ideal job
honestly no idea

13. I would never leave the house without my
car keys, house keys, mobile phone and purse

15. If you could change one part of the game or one rule, what would it be
flooding, find a way to stop it.

16. Who is your favourite cartoon character
Rocky & Bullwinkle

17. Who inspires you

24. Favourite AFL media personality
Blighty

25. What was the last meal you cooked
honey soy pork fillet with sweet potato, musgrooms, green veggies and carrots.

26. Scariest moment in your life
refer parent's punishment earlier, and then add going down the twister slide at wet n wild.

27. Worst piece of advice ever given to you

There is a movie version of 'Taming of the Shrew' ... with Elizabeth Taylor as the shrew. I had a friend who used to make watching this movie his second date ... first date was the cinema, if she passed muster there he would watch this one with her ... his plan was to find a woman that responsed to the now non-shrew's last speech in a completely positive manner.

As far as I know he is still very single but maintaining his optimism :p

My heart is absolutely *bleeding* for you LL - after all I have only had the same song going myself albiet not constantly but pretty frequently!

On the topic of songs in the head .... A girl I once worked with told me that I had a 'screen saver' mode ... when my brain was not otherwise occupied I would start singing, whistling or humming without knowing it. One day I am leaning against a pole at Oxenford Central shops and this guy comes around from behind me, looks at me, grins broadly and says, "Nah, not really!". It was when the song first came out and they were playing it all over the place and apparently I was staning there singing 'Am I not pretty enough' :o I soooo changed colour!

Adding to fav TV shows (which didn't click as I don't watch it on TV per se ... I have a friend who collects them and lends them to me and I watch whole seasons of West Wing in a hit - a big fan of that as well as Yes Prime Minister et al.

Not sure if this counts as a practical joke or not ....

I was on a train back in the late 80's - not peak hour but pretty full. I was on the window side and a girl I did not know next to me. Not sure how it came up in the conversation but she informed me that she was 'completely and utterly unembarressable'! I asked her, "May I try?" and she told me to go for it! (my friends at the time though that was a rather foolish response on her part!).

I got up, put my stuff on the seat, into the aisle, down on one knee, took her hand in mine and proceeded to serenade her. Words such as 'I have dreamed thee too long, never seen thee nor touched thee but known thee with all of my heart ....' (originally sung by Don Quixote de la Mancha to Dulcinea in the musical Man of La Mancha). By the time I had finished the entire carriage had gone completely silent ... as the last note faded I brought her hand to my lips and kissed it - the whole carriage burst into clapping and cheering. Got back into my seat and asked her, "So, were you embar" "Yes!" was her emphatic response before I finished the word (she had changed colour quite effectively during the song).

Approximately half the carriage made a point of coming up to us before their stops to wish us a happy and long life together ... which I graciously accepted on behalf of the two of us.

Amazing enough I never saw her again but I suspect the words 'I am unembarressable' have not passed her lips too much since! ;)

And in the interests of the thread (ie getting to know people) - cannot place 'get married' as something never to do again as he has not done it the first time as yet!

"Love is more than gazing adoringly into the eyes of another, however pleasent that may be! It is also standing side by side gazing into one future with one determined hope and purpose that no matter what happens you will face it together and come out the other side stronger" (didn't use it before as it is not a personal motto but it is one I use a lot for others):)

The Great Ocean Road. Winter is an awesome time to go, as you can fit in a trip to the MCG as well.

9. best practical joke you have ever played Watching the Ashes on TV with a bunch of mates, must have been 1993. The television coverage was about 1 mour behind the live coverage from the old dart, so I sneeked upstairs, listened to Gooch go out, caugt for 9. Anyway, went back downstairs, waited 1/2 a hour then proudly declared that Gooch would not make 10 (he was on about 8 at the time). The bets came flying at me, and I bravely took them on. The crowd went wild when they thought he had hit a 4, too bad boys, leg byes was the call. The crown roared again when they thought he had struck a six. Good on you Merv, straight down his throat at fine leg. Gooch out for 9. Some of the boys complaining, other going for the wallets. I just cracked up and told them what I had done.

FFS they have come over the mark, are within 5 metres of it or something that is not fair, if a forward did it to a backman to stop him from switching to the other pocket, it would be a 50m penalty. *jumps off soapbox* (yes, I used to play up forward:p )
