was looking for an old thread on something else and found this. A lot of newer people will have missed it and many will have never attended a revue. This is a little something I wrote after the 2003 revue.
Champs to Pike – are you still combing your hair with a flannel?
Two minutes into the night and the tone was set once again for the annual players revue. 2003 had a lot to live up to, 2002 was a blast. The first couple of acts went a little flat with some audio problems but did fairly well in the scoring. Taking a huge chunk of meat around the streets of Brisbane and passing it off as Leppa’s shoulder – well you can imagine the reactions from your average Brisvegan!! Who can forget the two “working” girls interviewed by Simon Black and the expression on his face when he got an answer to the “how much” question!! Mal “Marmalade” Michael and his mad minute with Blake Caracella was priceless, but wouldn’t you dearly love to know what the question was that was asked to get the bi-sexual answer. The pace then picked up with Luke Power and his Austin Power’s skit, the first of many opportunities for Dylan McLaren to put on a dress! Luke Power wins hands down for the most embarrassed person around and you could have fried eggs on his face he was that red when asked whose bedroom the “love scene” was filmed in and he said it was his and then asked if that was his own picture hanging above the bed!
Clark Keating has spent waaaaay too much time watching “Living With” as his take on Lisa Lloyd was spot on! And how much did Aaron Shattock get into his role – if he told Keating to keep his legs crossed once he told him a dozen times, his poise posture and sipping the wine was all perfect. But I guess boys will be boys and as they were their own female counterparts they had to fiddle with something and fake chests were all prodded and poked and adjusted every few moments. Simona Black and Jonathina Brown did no justice to the mini skirt however Notting had surprisingly good legs for it!
Chris Johnson as Pink – if nothing else proved that he will most definitely be back this week, no-one with a hamstring problem could have jumped around the stage to “get this party started”! DJ the consummate professional played on even though the wrong song was playing but the knickers were retrieved and re-thrown for Darryl “Tom Jones” White. Ashley McGrath - whose award from the “living with” segment which can’t be mentioned on here for censorship purposes - as Robbie Williams was a true Rock DJ and Michael “Anthony Corrie” Jackson (stet) words fail me.
Craig McRae, Michael Voss and Jamie Charman “The S!!t Scareds” – I still have pains in my sides, should have remembered to wear waterproof mascara and packed some extra tissues. Is there no end to Fly’s comedy genius. Bet no-one thought they could top last years Crocodile Hunter!!
There is so much more that could be written but I guess these were the highlights for me from a night that delivered so much.
Thank you Brisbane Lions, players, administration and all involved.
