Im not being negitive here (wel trying not too) but have you noticed when Brown is in the team we have a good chance of winning when he is not there we only won like 1 game.....does this not show we are a 1 man team, he means so much.
I think the club should fix this problem, somehow, its not good to be reliant on one player.
Again im not bagging the club, wanna know what you guys think?

Of course we stand a better chance of winning with Brown. He goes alright.

This is in part due to the AFL equalisation policy. Brown has helped the Lions be successful, and we have suffered with poor draft picks as a result. I suspect the same thing will happen to Judd when West Coast's senior players retire.
But I agree that this is a problem Viper. I believe we have a lot of players that are showing a bit of potential and are handy players, but we now lack players in that elite category. The injury crisis this year has added to our depth, but over the coming years we need to see the likes of Stiller, Rischitelli, Sherman, Adcock, Drummond etc go from good (or very good) players to great players.
A big difference between successful teams and unsuccessful ones IMO is the attitude of the players that are already in the starting lineup. Everyone strives hard to get there, but when they are there do they simply look to stay there or do they continue to try and improve and become the best they can be.

At the moment, due to our huge injury list and Black and Power being tagged every game, it may 'look' that way, but when we have our full list back out on the ground, including Bradshaw, I don't agree.
JB is a powerful presence, no question, but the man himself would not agree with that statement and neither do I

i agree, its more obvious now that we are bottom 4, but his influence is crucial to us.
its not like Judd at WCE, you cant just put in any old bloke at CHF.

Maybe we can do a coach swap for draft picks with Carlton and re-deploy Pagan's Paddock!

I dunno, not sure if we can make that call yet. When Browny has been out, especially this year and last it has not just been him, there has been a whole host of other factors that I think we would need to look at before making this call.
I have no idea where one would start to gather this information but if we looked at 2001 - 2004 and compared the games we lost when he was out compared to 2005 and 2006 when he was out. ie, look at the full list that hit the field that day and see if it was just Brown or other key players. I have a feeling it is more than that one factor but a whole host of others that add up that we lose when he is not playing than the fact that we can't win without him.
I making any sense?
Would Brown have made the difference this year? I don't think so.
This is not in anyway negating the importance of JB just the fact that we are not IMO a one man team.
I believe he would of made a difference in a couple of games. Could of had another couple of wins. In particular E'don.:p
One man team or not, I really don't see this as a really bad thing as long as that one man can get on to the park.

i agree at some point, but u have to think in games such as Adelaide in the rain, we were winning lots of the ball but no1 at CHF to kick it to. so in games that we were competitive but had no forward structure we could have got over the line 2-3 more times.
but in the games e.g. WCE where the midfield got hammered i agree Browny would have made no difference.
you cant underestimate the confidence i guy like that gives to the guys around him though, its just natural leadership.

Exactly. It gives the players confidence to run hard because they know they can be rewarded for their efforts with a guy that can capitalise in front of goals.
Also just the mere presence and leadership of the man is awesome. You can see the players walk a foot taller before a ball is even bounced.

Brown is an essential part of our team structure, and having him out does screw with our gameplan.
But to me it's like saying the wheels of a car are the most important part, because without them you couldnt drive.
While this is true, you also need an engine, a chassis, a steering wheel etc etc..... It's not about one part of the car being more important than the others, you need all the elements working in order for the car to be able to be driven properly.
Not the best analogy, but I just got up so forgive me.

i actually thought it wasnt too bad an analogy :)

Me too, i actually thought "good analogy" as i read it, and then you said "not the best analogy" !
After all we used to call the midfield the 'engine room'. We talk about firing on all cylinders'.
Leigh would be in the drivers seat, Vossy would be the steering wheel. Mal and Leppa would be the brakes. The forwards the accelerator?

I guess the runners would be petrol pump men.
Umpires as cops on roads.
Who'd be the backseat driver? :D

This is my first post (but I can't start a new thread yet! Hello everybody!
Lions debuted many new players in the last two years. Some of them show great potential as forwards.
Browny has been great, and yes injury has firmly confirmed his value.
But what about Braddy, he has played his part well.
