Interesting little snippet in today's Age about how a warm-up comedian at the Allan Border Medal night upset more then one Australian cricketer.

Not so funny

More fallout from last week's Allan Border Medal function in Melbourne.

Not only did Steve Waugh have to sit through the entire evening with the secret knowledge that he had been axed as his country's one-day skipper but word now is that some of his teammates were fuming as well, albeit over an entirely different matter.

It seems the evening's warm-up comedian Michael Pope's flippant comments about the players' partners didn't go over very well at all, most notably when he described Mark Waugh's partner Sue as Waugh's "older sister".

Apparently, Pope also had a dig at Stuart MacGill's wife Rachel Friend, which the leg-spinner deemed inappropriate, particularly in front of 1000 people.

"I won't be taking any further action," said MacGill, "but I'd be surprised if we see the same guy doing that job again."

Michael Pope is about as funny as Vince Sorrenti.

He should stick to hosting kids game shows.
