Just reading some of the Choking threads on here people calling the Crows, Port, and the pies chokers because they have missed the Grand final in 2 or more occasions. You are all forgetting one team who flopped quite a few times in the finals in a space of ten years and thats Brisbane.
1995- Carlton defeated Brisbane (got knocked outin the first round of finals.)
1996- Nth Melbourne defeated Brisbane (got knocked out in the third week of the finals)
1997- St kilda defeated Brisbane (got knocked out in the first week of the finals)
!998- Woodenspooners
1999- Nth Melbourne defeated Brisbane (got knocked out in the third week of the finals)
2000- Carlton defeated Brisbane (got knocked out in the second week of the finals)
2001-2002-2003 Premiers
2004 - Port Adelaide defeated Brisbane in the Grand final.
Sure Brisbane were a terrific side from 2001 to 2003 but they had quite a few bites at the cherry before they won a Grand Final . Do people think because they won 3 in a row that it wasnt such a bad thing after all?. I just think its double standards here plain and simple.

I dunno about that? They were never in the top 4 during that period and wernt considered '' Premiership certainties'' like the Crows this year. They also made up for a few finals losses by winning 3 premierships in a row. So how the hell are people meant to remember those previous losses and refer them as chokers?
I think the one good thing with choking is that sides that go through it usually turn it into a positive and end up winning a flag. Well except Collingwood in 2002 and 2003......

Theres no way Brisbane can be called chokers... no way at all
They lost one prelim... i believe that was the year before they won the first of 3 flags in a row.
The other years they finished in the bottom half of the 8... thats not a choke.

2001-2002-2003 Premiers
Without a doubt the dumbest thread ever started. To suggest a side which won 3 premierships in a row is a pack of chokers???
Brisbane took a while to get going as a team and to be even in the finals in the mid 90s is somewhat of a success for them in itself.
I don't think Pies are chokers because they lost in 2002 & 2003. They were never in with a chance and played far above themselves. They didn't choke this year when they got smashed by the Bulldogs because they were lucky to make the finals. They're a try hard outfit, but not chokers.
Sydney played a few finals series before 2005, are they chokers? No.
Same for West Coast if they win next week.
Young sides need a few finals series before taking the final step, 3 premierships for Brisbane no way are they chokers, stupid post.

In the end you could call nearly any time who plays finals chokers, depending on how you view it. Most people bringing out the chokeres call just use it as a way to bag which ever teams they hate.
Take last years finals. Melbourne and North both lost home elimination finals to teams they finished ahead of. Geelong lost a final when in an almost unloseable posistion. St. Kilda lost a home prelim when leading at 3 quater time. Adelaide lost a home final after being minor premiers. For Geelong, St. Kilda and Melbourne these were second consecutive finals series disappointments. You could probably interpret any or none of these as choking poerfromances.
Obviously when Port won two minor premierships and didn't make a Grand Final that't probably choking. The pies lost two grand finals to better sides and were really not premiership quality sides in 2002/3. The crows lost to a better side today, but may have choked last year. Just people opinion really.

I don't think chokers is the way to describe any of those sides. It just goes to show that its damn hard to win a grand final.

The only one I'd describe as being chokers is Port for those couple of years. They ended up getting there in the end anyway, so i'm sure it was all worth it
This thread is truely the result of Relatives jumping in the sack.

i agree, Brisbane are chokers. We could have won our deserving 8 premierships in 9 years + last year, we should have won so 9 in 10 years.
Just for clarification, here is Collingwood's GF and PF record since 1958
1960: lost to Melbourne (and only scored 2.2.14)
1964: lost to Melbourne
1965PF: lost to essendon (eventual premiers)
1966: lost to St. Kilda (by a point)
1969PF: lost to Richmond
1970: lost to Carlton (after being over 7 goals up at half time)
1973PF: lost to Richmond
1977: drew to Kangaroos
1977GFR: lost to Kangaroos
1978PF: lost to Kangaroos
1979: lost to Carlton
1980: lost to Richmond (record margin at the time, still 3rd highest GF loss of all time at 81 points)
1981: lost to Carlton
1984PF: lost to essendon (by record finals margin of 133 points)
1990: BEAT ESSENDON
2002: lost to Brisbane
2003: lost to Brisbane

Coming from a Collingwood supporter - be real. You lost 2 grand finals in the same period.
Just how many other grand finals have you lost over the last 50 years.

No need to take offence. I was just speaking of those couple of years Port dominated the entire home and away season, then lost at home in the first week of the finals... then they didnt even make the grand finals in the end.
If collingwood did that, i'd be more than happy to call them chokers
