I wouldn't say he is a 'good' chance to miss, but there is a slight chance. Don't get too far ahead of yourself thinking he won't play, i would put my money on that he will.

If the wife of a footballer falls pregnant, and its due during the season, especially on Grand Final day, surely she has to understand that he probably wont be there?!?!?!?

I have 2 children of my own, I understand the enormity of the moment BUT, you marry a footballer, knowing their season ends on that last saturday in September, knowing that their whole year, often their whole life, leads up to that day, to expect him to miss out is....just selfish.

No way he'll miss out. $10 says they have a private charter jet waiting at the airport just incase for him tho ;)

How can he even contemplate missing the GF? He has a lifetime to enjoy his child, but how often does he have the chance to win (another) GF?
Some of footy greatest players never won a premiership, yet this average player is thinking of missing the GF?

Idiot. Should have his contract torn up if he skips the GF.

I dont know dude... yeah you only get one maybe two chances to win a premiership. But im pretty sure you only get the one shot at witnessing your own childs birth.

I know which one would be more important to me.

Having said that, their is no way he will miss the game.

Maybe I'm an insensitive yobo, but WTF is so special about watching a woman give birth? I watched a documentary on SBS once, and trust me, its fkn yuck!

haha....different when it's your own.

Heard someone talking at the pub saying Eagles supporters should let off some loud firecrackers over Jolly's house on Friday to induce the labour.:D

This whole thing just reeks of garnering as much support for the Swans around australia - specifically in Melbourne - as possible for this Saturday.

Call me a cynic but how strange that this story would break the Sunday after the grand finalists are known. The media will make a big song and dance about it and good old Jolly will decide at the eleventh hour that "as much as he feels he needs to be there, he'll stick by the boys, he's got to get the job done etc" He'll play Grand Final day!

The bandwagon jumping will then be fierce as the whole of Australia will be barracking the Swans on - do it for Jolly, go on, go.

On Saturday there will be the reports that Mrs Jolly will be due at any minute and Andy Maher or Christi Malthouse will be keeping us updated on the progress of whats happening with Jolly jnr.

The Eagles win and will be seen as the biggest buch of tossers around for ruining the big day and spoiling the party,

OR

The Swans will win and it is the feel good story of the season.
Good on ya Sydney!

A week or two later young Jolly is finally born but the world has moved on and no one really gives a toss anymore anyway!

Call me a cynic but lets just see how this all pans out!

I find some peoples views quite surprising, I think the birth is a very VERY important part of a father's life, you have to look at every possibilty that could occur, what if his wife had complications during the delivery and god forbid something happened, how would you feel knowing you weren't there because you were out kicking a footy ?

Never thought about it that way, but it's a very good point, Obi.

It could turn out like the Nick Stevens story in the nab cup GF last year, when he couldn't decide between his brother's wedding or the game.

I wonder if they'll have live crosses to the Jolly household and blah blah blah...

It makes sense now, and at half-time we'll cross down to the rooms and there will be an interview with Jolly's mother or someone saying "oh wouldn't it be grand if the boys won the game and then the baby was born the next day..." AWWW.

Bet on it!

Jolly will play and I doubt it was ever really in question - just a way for Sydney to try and gain the upper hand in support from the crowd and around Australia.

The whole thing just stinks of marketing spin-doctors trying to gain an advantage.

While WCE are talking about the upcoming game and confidence etc - the bulk of Sydney's press will be regarding Darren Jolly and his baby - therefore deflecting any questions about tactics etc.

The media will fall for it hook line and sinker as they always do and everyone will be on the Swans bandwagon!
