Port Adelaide
2002 - Finish minor premiers ... lose first final, win second final, lose to premiership club in preliminary final in Brisbane
2003 - Finish minor premiers .... lose first final, win second final, lose to premiership club in preliminary final in Brisbane
Adelaide
2005 - Finish minor premiers ... lose first final, win second final, lose to GF runner-up in preliminary final in Perth
2006 - Finish 2nd ... win first final, lose preliminary final at home.
I guess Adelaide choked?

you could say that. or maybe you could say they were met by a team on a mission and everything clicked at the right time for them.
another answer could be.....
1.to stop the breath of by squeezing or obstructing the windpipe; strangle; stifle.

Why post this here? You obviously don't understand the reason we are using ther term. They gave it to us, now they need to know what it feels like to be the subject of such abuse.

Why are non-Port supporters posting thread on our board about Adelaide "choking"? There is a bay13 for that rubbish.

Choking happens when one deliberately does not make the finals by throwing games and then picks up semi duds with their priority picks. ;)

Wasnt one of their prelim losses to Collingwood at the MCG? 2003 I think. Call it a choke yesterday if you want though, its only a word.....so just how did Hawthorn go this year??

NOT a choke. 2005 is questionable though.

Of course it's a choke. The crows are subject to the same crticisms as any other club. You are not above any other club in that way. Just grin and bare it, we did.

I would call losing any home final a "choke" regardless of which sides are playing.

We lost to the #1 team at the end of the 2006 H&A season.
If it's a choke, it's one of the smallest chokes you'll ever see.

We lost to the #1 team at the end of the 2006 H&A season.Yes, but that was only because your choking started pre-finals.
Crapped your daks when you couldn't be underdog any more. Only ridiculous Freo hype in Round 1 of finals took you back into your comfort zone.

Wouldn't call it a ridiculous Freo hype in the QF - they did beat Port this year by a combined total of 100+ points :o

If things get too heated here ill simply delete the thread or move it to Bay 13 where it belongs.
my 2 cents....basically, the Crows made their bed regarding what they classified some of our seasons as. Now they have to lie in it. If our 2001 was a choke, so was their 2005. As for this year...theres probably a better description for it.
As for yesterday? All I will say is I certianly know what they would be saying to us if the shoe was on the other foot.

Do you mean 2006 where you were being written up as the greatest Crows team of all time .... with apparently the best defence of all time, had about a 15% percentage advantage over every other side, and apparently dropped a couple of games late in the season because you were in your mystical "extra training load" phase. You then play a home preliminary final against a side which has lost their last 5 away finals and are up by near on 4 goals at half time ?
I think "choke" gets thrown around very liberally - and your fellow crows fans were pretty quick to throw it our way in years gone by..... but either way you have failed to make a grand final in a season when about 5 weeks out from the end of the season you were being labelled by many as invincible... whichever way you look at it you've thrown away a great chance at a flag... and with an ageing list that premiership window may be just starting to slide shut.

Finished top 2 with a home PF and a weeks rest and did not make the GF - that my friend, is a major choke.
So take what you started or just accept that you were not good enough - just like the Power in those years.

Choking - a phrase invented by overweight, overpaid, underachieving American sports commentators adopted by plebs around the world.
The amount of w@nkers of these boards who use it is quite amazing. If an opposition side puts pressure on an expected winner, and the expected winner doesn't succeed then that's choking - no respect for the efforts of the opposition. What a bull***** definition.
Tiger Woods has entered Major golf tournaments now for about 11 years, ie 44 major events. He probably has started favourite in 35 of them. He has won 12. He is ahead of Jack Niclaus at a similar age. Therefore, using the idiots definition of choking he has failed 33 times. How many people would say Tiger Wooders is a choker??? We'll I reckon everyone on these boards who has used the word in last 5 years would say he has if they are consistent. See how foolish they are.
Yes I know we have copped it from all sides, so the easy thing is to put sh*t back on those who dished it out to us. They were fools to start of with, probably never achieved anything of note in their lifes, and continue to be fools. If it gives people a football orgasm to use it and stops them beating up people, blowing things up etc etc then so be it, unfortunately.

If that isn't a choke then neither were any of Port's.
A prelim at HOME against a team who made one of the longest road trips in footy without a week off and you say it's not a choke?

If 2006 is not a choke then nothing is.Having a weeks rest, playing a side at home who played a tough game against the doggies last week and then being up by 22 points by half time and then kicking with a 3 game breeze, it was time for the fat lady to sing, but they crows choked.

The wind reduced in strength as the game went on. You had first use of it and should have benefitted accordingly. You had a weeks rest more than they did, you were well in control at half time yet you got belted in the third quarter. Don't give us any crapola about Biglands injury because the tables were turned before that could have affected you. You were playing in front of a full house packed with your own fans and you squibbed it.

Hah hah, funny stuff.
If the definition of a choke is losing any home final, as stated previously, then the choke count makes interesting reading...
Port - Home Finals
Won 4, Lost 4
Adelaide - Home Finals
Won 5, Lost 2
For some more pleasant reading...
All Finals
Crows = Won 12, Lost 10
Power = Won 6, Lost 8
Wait there's more...
Premierships
2 - 1
Just stirring you up guys, have a great off-season!

Well i thought i would try & bring some common sense to this thread & try To educate those who are desperately in need of it :)
"Choking" is a word that is being used far far too loosely these days a bit like the word "Champion" is used by some to describe certain players or even certain horses.
Chokers like Champions are titles that have to be earned by outstanding performance over a period of time ie =
Champion footy players, Barry Robran Russell Ebert, Mark Bickley etc
Champion Horses, Gunsynd, Manikato, Vain etc.
Chokers, Port Adelaide Power & i suppose Collingwood to a lesser degree.
Now how can any fair & reasonable person put the Crows loss on sat against the top side who by the way were a raging hot favorite & were picked by 95% of sporting commentators around the country to win by a fair margin as a choke of the PA style is way beyond me.
:)

I stopped reading at this point as any credibility you might have had was lost. Seriously Bickley is hardly in the same class as Robran & Ebert. Get off the grass :D
BTW, IMHO the crowies choked. Not only the prelim - the season. To start where they did with opposition coaches calling them awesome etc (I've never heard so many opposition coaches compliment a side so much!) ...they went on to fall into one damn BIG hole. :)

noddy you can prattle on as much as you like, I'm telling you in all seriousness that Saturday's loss ranks not far behind the Bickley assault on Wakelin as a public relations disaster for the Crows.
For years your lot have felt free to make the choking accusation. Now that is much more difficult to do.
The Crows have been on the back foot morally ever since Bickley disgraced himself. The Pickett incident swung the pendulum back towards your lot to a degree but then the tribunal's overreaction created a degree of sympathy for him and in any case he's gone now.
Your mounting finals failures are taking the force out of the choking accusation and it has instead come back to haunt you. We can bat your taunts straight back at you.
Isn't karma a wonderful thing? :thumbsu:

Finish top 2 and fail to make the grand final two years running - Port and Adelaide.
Lose a home prelim. - Port never, Adelaide yes.
You can spin the crap any way you like, but it boils down to Port lost two prelim's AWAY then took the flag the following year after being the dominant side through most of the H & A the two years they missed the GF. Adelaide have done exactly the same the last two years, except they lost one of their prelim's at home to boot.
At this point I'd call them as bad as each other.
However Port at least redeemed themselves in 2004, unless Adelaide does in 2007 they'll pull away in this 'contest'.

A precedent was set by cow suppoters by labelling port "chokers" in 2002 and 2003, so using the criteria previously established the crows choked on Saturday. Karma's a bitch:D :D I guess Spring Choke will be changing his/her name;)
