heard an interview with nick riewoldt's father on sport 927 yesterday. they were asking him about the non coverage of tv games to the gold coast and about the 50km drafting rules for brisbane. at the end of the interview kb asked him if he had switched his allegiances to the saints, his response was 'no need i am life long saints fan, a lot of tasmanians barrack for the saints'. :D
now he has to convince his son that he can follow in the footsteps of those other great tasmanians baldock, stewart, howell, lawrance(?) and play in a st kilda premiership side. :D

I heard the same interview, and was also surprised to hear he was a Saint.
Barry Lawrence arrived after 66, so no flag for him. Almost got one in 71.:(

Do any of you think we have missed a golden opportunity by not looking towards Tassie as Hawthorn have done?
Personally I'm glad that our club has realised that the moves to Waverley and Colonial haven't been unanimously accepted and that playing interstate would cause widespread anger.
Still, to see a great football state that I have always considered a St Kilda (and Carlton) heartland fall to Hawthorn is a little hard to take. I wonder how many of these new Hawthorn members have switched from St Kilda to Hawthorn because of the chance to watch football on a semi-regular basis.
Back to the topic at hand, that's great to hear Nick's Dad feels that way. I've heard he's an active member of the South East Queensland Saints supporter group. Especially after there were some rumblings that he was a little disenchanted after the Blight sacking.

We didn't - remember our huge alliance with football Tasmania? Having the Tasmanian saints VFL side? Having a Tasmanian Under 18 team to use for player development?
Remember what happened? Football Victoria & The AFL ****ed us over, we had a pioneer idea & all they wanted was to force us to form an alliance with Springvale.
We would've gained extra Tasmanian members & support through this avenue, just another **** up in a long saga.

i still think there is an opportunity for us to utilise our strong support base in tassie. even though hawthorn have stolen our thunder we should still be exploring the option of playing a couple of games a year there. i might write to rod to see what the club are doing to expand our market.
besides, i could do with a weekend or two on the apple isle. ;)
