Any ideas about who will be the new assistant next year now that Creswell has decided to leave?

I thought McCrae might have been a good one but it looks like he is going to Melbourne for a position.

So is it clear that Cressa was given the nudge to make space?

He is still on the website and given the rate that they update that for players leaving I assume that it is not official yet. There was a lot of talk that he was moving for a chance at a senior position.

There was also talk that he was expensive and the Lions financially weren't that worried about the departure. Given that they were already paying Leppa for next year the reasoning was that the Lions may as well get something out of it and make Leppa an assistant. Don't know how much truth there is in that.

If that were true I'd be disappointed. Leppa may turn out to be the coach of the century, but if the choice to appoint him was due to financial reasons, I'd not be happy at all with the appointment.

Leppa has been paid out under this years cap. "Brisbane will pay Leppitsch out this season's slightly back-ended contract, of around $540,000, and will save about $250,000 on what they would have had to declare for him under next year's cap." See full link (http://www.aussport.com.au/headlines/Lionsnotgivingupfight_060606.htm)here that discusses The Lions Salary cap issues.

One of my favourite all time players players from Brisbane was Shaun Hart. I have heard him speak and he is a great role model for people in general. You could do worse than approach this guy as an assistant coach. Strong, courageous, premiership hero etc etc. What do you Brisbane guys/gals think?

I heard this & Leppa will definately be an assistant coach, no real shock had been mentioned here a few times in the past. Retirement Package.....

Sounds to me very much like Vossy will retire after listening to Leppa.
Suppose the other point being if he was to play on why we he need to announce it to all the players, you would just announce. The fact he wants the players to hear 1st points further to retirement.

Vossy was in Melbourne today as he went out to training with the Oakleigh Under 18s prior to their TAC Cup GF this weekend. Connection being Jarrod Molloy being an assistant there. Heard him interviewed this evening. Mentioned he has had preliminary talks with Channel 7, also interesting to hear him say that if he was to go to coaching (highly unlikely he would step straight into it) it would be away from Brisbane.
Dont panic he mentioned the fairytale would be to coach the Lions one day.

Interesting Leppa on Aker. Obviously known that they haven't seen eye to eye for sometime. Leppa stated after he retired he sat down & had a word to Aker, re the team thing which was positive. Travelled overseas & when he got back was not overly suprised to see what had occurred.
