I don't play in the comp anymore but would think it could only be a good thing. Question for you. How long has it been since the cricket club has been up and running in Balranald???

Well cricket is upon us again... pretty quiet on here, so i thought id try and spark things up....
Great to see Balranald in, only a good thing for the comp..
How are other clubs going with recruiting??
We have been quiet, lost Crowy to UTUFCC but gained Tyrone Jones (if StM clear him!!), tanner for a full season
Swan Hill- lost a few but gain hatch
StM- apparently lost a few, havent herad much about them
UTUFCC - get coloe for a full season but dont think abbott is playing..
Nully - not too sure, is billy returning and how is yellas knee??
Nyah - will always be Nyah with the boultons and Kent, Bruton a yr older, Jack Paynter, could be hard to beat
Tool - Unsure, think they have a strong batting line up but bowling could be relied on by the younger boys. good chance for them..
RSL - Have heard nothing as yet. Will budda return??
other ppls thoughts...

Thoughts, well the league has to put the foot down with this B Grade system and make it compolsury for clubs to fill an A grade before B. Its a joke competition has more teams than the A! It is supposed to be a professional league and at the moment its far from it. The teams who have been up for so long in the B grade e.g. Manang should be forced to field the A grade side, its ridiculous!

I was of the belief that Tooleybuc and Manangatang had a merger of sorts that see's the Agrade side named Tooleybuc and the B grade Manang but players can go up and down grades???

That has been true in the past couple of years Roota. But the "marriage" has officially ended and Manang are going solo again, not that they ever shared any of their players with Tooley's A grade anyway so they are probably better seperating..
As for making every team fill an A grade team first i can't see this as helping the standard of the A grade competiton? Would we be better or worse of if Mystic, Boga, SLW, Balranald, Manang etc all had A teams. i doubt it.. I would prefer to see a relegation system of some sort as the best way to improve the situation with possibly a maximum of 10 teams in the top grade (although 8 does work well at present).
They are difficult issues and many past boards have tried to improve these areas, manang and boga have probably been the worst offenders & should have probably stepped up to A grade at various stages in the past 5 or so years.. If you have a promotion system where a B grade team that wins the flag is forced to step up would help get most ppl happy and if they fininsh bottom in A they get dropped back again!!
Could go on all day and still not solve all the problems, any more ideas on how it should be??

Oh righto, i am obviously out of the loop down here. The Barnes lads are Manang products who have played for the Bucs but can't think of too many others
Would faces of in round 1 this weekend? Will be in town so hopefully get to have a look around the grounds

You do make good points there Sockit, cant find anything wrong with your thought process. Sea Lake Woomelang are a combined team, with townships bigger than the likes of Nullawil/Culgoa? I think its piss poor that town towns combined can only field a B and C grade? I just don't agree with the concept of having 8 teams in the A grade and 13 in the B?

Not sure how long since Balranald had their own cricket side but about 10 years back now i suppose they had their own league just for the surrounding areas...Kyalite, Homebush etc... nowhere near as professional as this league. Be interesting to see how we go... Might be a few lean years to begin with but as support grows so will the club. You just have to look at your Kane Griffiths's, Tom Lister's and Jordy Griffiths's that Balranald can produce some quality players.

I see where ure coming from mate, but Balranald would not be able to field an A Grade side just yet...just would not be competitive at all. Agree with the rest though...

Totally agree mate, that was my point..
The original poster wanted EVERY club to have its first team in A grade but i don't think this is the best option at all..
Good luck to Balranald for the year, hopefully you enjoy the year and can build up a good side in the coming years that will be able to have a crack at A grade.

The big thing for clubs such as Manang, Sea Lake and those outlying clubs is harvest. Being from Lalbert i have an very good understanding of how tough it is to field sides, let alone competitive sides during the harvest period. This is the exact reason why Lalbert never stepped up in to A grade while i was playing there

Sockit, I agree that something needs to be done but not sure a relegation/promotion system would work given that there are a number of teams with A&B grades currently. If Nyah's B grade side were to win the B grade and be promoted to A grade the next year, how do you think your club would go? Should your suggestion be relevant to clubs with B grade only? But would that make clubs not aim to win flags?? Difficult situation. Mystic has aims of playing A grade and good on them, if only all other clubs were like that...
I've heard a whisper that Balranald will be very strong in the B grade and it wont be long until they are in the A grade comp.

Spot on Hammer. Obviously some commonsense would have to be applied and clubs with 3 sides couldn't be moved around.

Off the top of the head Benaud i'll try to remember the games.
Swan Hill host NDCC
Woorinen v Nully/C
UTUFCC v Tooleybuc
RSL v StMarys
Should take a few weeks to see where all the clubs are at, and with Manang races this week who knows who might get the points? I'll pick Nyah, Woora, TUF & St Marys but ??

Good to see you too mate, pity you blokes had the game wrapped up by the time i arrived.
I have heard that the lookalike may be hanging up the whites. Has to save his energy for a side project that he currently has on the go.
I got to a few grounds and it looked to me as though most sides were a long way from their best sides

Good to see balranald b grade get off to a good start.
even against a weak swan hill with 8 players, has started the club off in a good fashion.
excellent to see a few swan hill boys hang around for a few beers after the game too.

Agreed. Was a great sight seeing Lister Sr and Lister Jr taking to the Swan Hill attack like a nerd in a brothel. 74 runs in 8 overs. Not to bad. All credit to Swan Hill boys who were probably playing a grade above what they usually would.

why would they do that if they havent had a side in for years and have never played in this league at all. Looks as though they are just trying to get a feel for the competition in swan hill. Obviously they r off to a good start, but i don't think u should be telling them what grades they should or shouldnt be playing in nackas.

cobba, balranald cricket clubs long term goal over the next few years is to put an A grade side in the league. been 14 years since half the blokes in the balranald side have played. we need to make sure there is still keen blokes willing to play every week.

Very valid point Fevolution, just a few cocky quotes from Balranald ppl made me quiz into whether or not the club should be fielding an A Grade team. By the looks of results, the team is certainly being steered in the right direction which is a credit to the club.
On a different subject, the change of balls from Kookaburra to Gray Nichols has been nothing short of a disaster in my point of view. It only takes around 5-10 overs before surface cracks appear and by the end of the game the ball is pretty much nackered!! Anyone else have an opinion on this?
Also, looks like Richie is upto his old tricks again scoring a S#!tload of runs early, the man is nothing short of a freak, unreal cricketer!!!

I could not believe that the league had changed the balls when i heard it when i was home the other week. Kookaburra are the only manufacturer that have successfully produced a quality ball in Australia. Surely the fact that the Gray Nichols balls deteriorate so badly is a disadvantage to the bowlers in the league. I tell you what if i was still at RSL i would be up in arms about this.
Surely the league needs to change back

The league signed a 1 yr contract with Gray Nic but i don't think the clubs will allow it to go any further, if it does last the year??
the balls (while not as good as kookas) have been holding up okay in A grade, but the two piece balls in lower grades are discaceful and may need changes, as they rarely see out a game!!
As for Ritchie, agreed he is a freak batsman!!
When Balranald played RSL a couple of weeks ago in the B's...the ball was broken at the seam within the first 10 overs of RSL's bowling innings...Absolute joke

yeh the balls aren't up to the kookaburra's standard but kookaburra forfeited their sponsorship to the SHDCA this year so obviously we had to find another sponsor, in the name of Gray-Nicolls. So it wasn't changed on purposed nackas.

I understand the need for the change of sponsor but Kookaburra don't sponsor all the other Associations in the country yet most if not all use Kookaburra balls. It just think that the quality of cricket will suffer because of the poor quality of the balls

Kookaburra did not cancel the agreement. The board sent proposals out to Gray Nic and Kook, and the Gray nic sponsorship package was deemed to be financially better for the association, and also the balls were cheaper and clubs were to recieve free stumps... Well they can stick that, cause three clubs that i know of a stump snapped on the first game they were used, the balls are a disgrace, pay for what u get is my opinion, there is a reason why they are cheap, they are shit... But i hope the association enjoys the money... It is a disgrace, lucky im a batsmen, well try to bat, cause the ball doesnt swing, it has no seam, and is rooted very early in a game. Figgy, i would hate to see your temper at this ball.... something must be done.. Also Balranald, the comment about u jumping into A was a fair one in my opinion, u get on here bragging and carrying on about how much u are whipping ppl. i belive u are doing a fantastic thing getting the club going again and i wish u all the luck, just dont get over the top and too cocky.. might come back to bite ya fair in the arse..

yeah got a bit carried away there.....
i have been working with bill a bit to try and help with these results, its so hard atm, in 3 weeks, the new system will be up and running and it will be brilliant. once they iron out all the problems it will be fine.
After 4 rounds...
I see the two teams that i expected to dominate, Nyah and TuF doing just that.. I probably didnt know how to split the rest of the pack, and that would be justified with the results all over the place... example- Woor defeats Nully rd 1, SH defeat Nully Rd 3, Nully lose to RSL who lost to Tooly. then SH flogged Woor... its just all over the place. The two close games Stm won Rd 1 & 2 will be very important at finals time..

A fair effort from 2 young Nully/Culgoa boys on the weekend. After getting Mystic Park all out for 149, Nully/Culgoa were struggling big time being 6/12 then 8/30, and at 9/45 you would think it was game over. Enter Tom Fawcett and Shane Barker, both 13 year old kids, and they knock up a 110 run partnership to see the boys over the line. Tom finishing with 71 and Shane 29 not out. Tom also had figures of 5/0/3-10. Just thought I'd give the boys a mention for a great effort!

Tom bowls leggies too which is a harder art for a young bloke.
Should also mention the partnership between Morpy and Knudsen of 193 is pretty impressive....unfortunately they done it against that man Boulton, who is just a freak with the willow!!

Great stuff by the young blokes. Tom looks to be an all rounder with a bright future if these match figures are anything to go by :thumbsu:

I thought the Balranald Bakery was making deliveries, there were that many pies being served. 4,4,6,6,6,6....but he had a good day though

So.....he is obviously a young bloke learning his craft. This has happened to plenty of blokes when they are starting. Hope he sticks with it and comes back stronger

This is why we comment on Balranald cockiness. Was obvioulsy in the junior game before he travelled back to play B's you talking. Shows good character in that it musnt have affected him and he turned it around later in the day.

How are we acting cocky, I was simply making an honest description of what happened...Sure he probably bowled better in the B Grade abd i take my hat off to him. It takes a lot of guts to be a spin bowler and to see he came back is a great sign
Well his old man was a great "all rounder". Just ask him;)
Well done fosso and young manoge

Why can you talk up young tom. And balranald boys cant talk up Lachie Weekley (who by the way. is in his first year of cricket)
well done to the young fella. 71 in b grade is a great score for a verteran of the game let alone an U/16s bloke.
but if a balranald kid like grant mannix or lynden duryea made a score, and we wrote in and said something use would class us as cocky.
we arent getting cocky mate just because we talk about our blokes....like EVERY single other person who writes things in.

Whats the go with the ladder on the website?? It appears to be missing the results of the Nully V Tooleybuc and RSL V UTUFCC games. And why wouldn't they put the ladders in the paper occasionally...and does Bill Croft actually watch any games of cricket? It may be only a small thing but he is forever giving people the wrong first names, and continues to think Nugget Hogan is a good cricketer!
Really poor effort all round!!

The answers for all the above questions lie with the man you have mentioned!!
The worst part is that he is getting paid to do the results etc, yet most of the results entered recently are those put onto the web by club volunteers.
Shouldn't have been appointed if he couldn't get the job done:thumbsd:
and the clubs shouldn't have to pay for it:thumbsd::thumbsd:
As for the gaurdian write-ups, getting worse by the week:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Any truth to the rumour that Nully have a new curator?

Am unsure what you are getting at here Sockit but the Recreation Reserve has a position up for grabs to look after the oval and pitch, it is advertised on the notice board in the footy/cricket rooms.

Ohhh...hahaha. The Rec Reserve are seriously looking for a curator at the oval, Morpy missed the cut as he couldn't get the wicket right last week....not bagging Knudsen, he batted well and had Nully/Culgoa frustrated with his boring approach, but those extra 30 runs would have been easy to get if he played a shot!! 21 not out after 39 overs turned out to be a little costly!!

Easy to say that now, but if he went out, that made us 3 down, tanner and Pig had gone to swan hill, so we were 5 down, with yella bowling decent pace, he only had to bowl straight to new batsman and we were a big chance of being rolled... So at the time i thought he did a great job, maybe a few drives at the spinners but other than that, he did well..
I miss the cut, what!!! i only got a 5 minute trial!!! if i had my way i wouldve had sponges and shit out there getting that pitch dry!!! haha... you r a harsh man!
