View Full Version : Membership total for 2007
Our Membership numbers dropped 14% in 2006 compared to 2005.
2006 = 28,576
2005 = 33,534
Given the events of recent weeks and another wooden spoon, I'm interested in what you think will happen to our membership numbers for 2007.
So much depends on what happens with trading, drafting and board meeting in December.
Being pessimistic I'd say 22000.
Being optimistic I'd say 28000.

You really do get the impression that the outcome fo trade week and the re-signing of these young guys is a watershed for the Carlton Football Club.
If we make some stupid trades and fail to re-sign say Thornton, then I can image our membership plumetting to below 25,000.

The membership department really need to look at incentives for member's, especially Social Club members because as far as I am concerned, the money handed over for a Social Club membership really isn't worth what you get in return.
As stated in a post a few months ago, the incentives that were at Optus Oval for Social Club members have not transferred to the Telstra Dome or the MCG. In fact, they have gotten worse, but the price increased.
Although passionate supporters will sign up regardless of what they get, Carlton will recurit additional supporters as members if the extra incentives are there. Afterall, people these days only hand over money if it is worthwhile to them.

Hopefully 25000+ and no matter how many members Carlton have next year I WILL BE PROUD TO BE ONE OF THEM.
CFC really need to be more creative with some of the memberships they offer.
There is no way Carlton fans should have to pay for the following:
- games involving Richmond and Hawthorn. These are young teams, and have served up some of the worst games of football for fans in recent years, ruined by turnovers and poor decision making. At least one team should be decent in each game you pay to see
- games after round 18. When the season is gone, the players know it and they are resting up for the following year, I don't see why this should be included in my membership bill.
- Any game in which we lose by more than 10 goals. I'd love to see that included in the membership ticket; ie get a rebate after each thrashing.
- Any game involving your 3 biggest spuds from the list. Each member gets to pick 3 players they hate watching from a list including, say, Sporn, Prendergast, De Luca, McLaren, McGrath, Davies etc. If your players are in the team, the club assumes you aren't getting value for money by watching and gives you a rebate.
I've been an 18-game member for many years now, and I'm not getting value for money at the moment. Give me some more incentives (and I don't mean a 'year of the blue' bumper-sticker or whatever crap slogan they come up with next year) and I'll be back for sure.
Will we get value for money next year? I absolutely doubt it - and suprise, suprise, the membership figure will continue to go down. Ny tip - 25,000 next year, 22,000 the year after.

good supporter,, even if you dont get to the games or use all your member benefits it'd be nice to be a huge power like collingwood and essendon are. no matter where those 2 clubs finish there are still 30-40k members... i guess that our supporters need to learn to dig deep for the club if we want to see it rise

Even though I stated that I believe the Membership department needs to improve it's incentives, I too will be renewing my membership, as I have done since 1988.
