There has been ALOT of speculation about changes to our list at the moment, so i thought id put it all into one thread.
How do you rate the future of each of the following players out the Lions?
Vossy?
Bradshaw?
Mal Michael?
Moody?
Rischa and Shermo?
Aker?
C. Scott?
Big Beau?
Brennan?
Johnno?
Allan, Garner?
JMac?
Corrie?
Fixter?
not great having so many players not certainties to be on the list in 2 years time... hopefully most of those can get sorted out soon.
if ive forgotten any post them and ill add them...

Vossy? is probably worse than 50-50 at this stage IMO. but will be a centreman if he plays on, NOT a forward pocket.
Bradshaw? I'd expect a deal will be reached, and bloody hope so! If we can get bradshaw/brown combo going for 20 games id see it hard for us NOT to scrape the 8, depending on our defence of course.
Mal Michael? see Vossy, obviously for different reasons. i believe the formal meeting with the club is today (28-Sep)
Moody? has said he wants to go back to freo in '08, cant see him getting many games in 07 if this is the case and our injuries permit.
Rischa and Shermo? have signed and hopefully will be 10+ year players for us which is awesome.
Aker? have very strong doubts that a deal WONT be reached here, cant see how this deal wont get done with the dogs.
would be interesting tos ee if he was selected for 22 games next year and if he could keep his mouth shut if he stayed.
Scotty? Will try and get a good preseason in and probably play 10-15 games next year, then get the nudge. hope he has a strong year though, has been the better of the Scotts IMO (no disrespect to Brad).
Big Beau? Now that Crackers is gone the club will probably keep him at least another season or two til Woody can develop a bit more. Doubt theres a long term place for him though, career has been ruined by injuries.
Brennan? if he doesnt perform in 2007 he will have run his race as far as Lions colours go.
Johnno? anyone think he will play BEYOND 2007? anyone think he will retire in the next month or two? I'd expect 1 more year out of him probably, 2 max!
Allan, Garner? Garner has been wrecked by injuries, and to be honest dont know enough to comment, anyone?
Allan doesnt seem very likely to make it, will he be given more opportunities? i doubt it personally.
JMac? Not sure how many more spots we need to vacate on our list this year, but doubt he'll survive the 2007 offseason if not this year. We've unveiled too many talented youngsters for any mediocre players to remain.
Corrie? Will be interested to see how he recovers from his ACL. Was meant to be a future electrifying crumber for us, can you do that after a knee reco? Needs to get some consistency by the end of 2008 latest, or he'll be gone.
Fixter? To be honest is pretty ordinary talent wise, etc. Didnt get much of the ball in '06 but tried his a$$ off all season and tackled very well. If he can get 15 touches a game he'll be valuable for us, if not he wont last.

Michael set to quit
By Andrew Hamilton and Jim Wilson
September 28, 2006 TRIPLE premiership defender Mal Michael is expected to tell Brisbane Lions coach Leigh Matthews today that he wants to retire.
Michael has agreed to meet Matthews, but he is likely to make the decision to end his career immediately unless a massive compromise is reached to allow him to reduce his training regimen.
Brisbane has told Michael, 29, that he's a required player, but the Lions star is committed to expanding his foundation that helps communities in his native Papua New Guinea.
Brisbane isn't prepared to give Michael permission to scale back his commitments to cater for his charity work.
Michael may seek a trade deal but Brisbane will be reluctant as it is already set to lose a handful of experienced players, including West Australian young gun Matthew Moody.
Moody's management has told the Lions it wants only a one-year deal that will free the 21 year old up for a return to Fremantle in 2008.
Drafted at No.23 in 2003 by the Lions, Moody has played 25 games.

These are all based on my honest opinion from reading the papers etc and going on gut feeling. I have no "inside" knowledge within the club so i am purely going on these unreliable sources:
Vossy - will retire at the end of the year. Will take up an assistant coaching position role at a Melbourne-based club.
Bradshaw - will sign for another 2 or 3 years on roughly the same pay he is on now.
Mal Michael - will retire today.
Moody - will be traded at the end of the year. We dont need players saying they will only play the year, but will leave after that. What is the point of paying him and wasting valuable time and resources developing the kid so that he becomes a better player elsewhere. I would love for him to stay as i believe he has a big future in the game, but i'm not holding my breath.
Rischa and Shermo - impossible to say. I will predict they will become long-term players at the club, but who knows what will happen tomorrow, let alone come the end of their contracts.
Aker - well, he has no future at the club. I think everyone knows that, himself included. We will not get what he is worth in a trade, but it will be better than what some bulldog folk are suggesting.
if ive forgotten any post them and ill add them:
Clark - this guy is the big one IMO. We haven't had much luck with WA players (so much so, we should consider this when drafting). Hope to hell he plays with the lions for a long, long time.
Begley - to be honest, i have strong doubts about him being a long-term player in the AFL. He will be a good player, but it must be very hard to live in another country away from everyone.
Chris Scott - i think he will play next year.
Hadley - very hard to come back and be a force after two reconstructions. Will take a while before he gets his confidence back, but i'm just hoping he wont turn into a "what could have been" story in 10 years time.
Brown - see above with Hadley. We must find a way to keep this bloke fit. He is worth 2-3 ladder positions on his own. Just look at Carey and the kangaroos to see how important he will be. The kangas didn't have a great team, but they had Carey. I am dreading a "what could have been" story for this great man as well.
Lappin - similar to Hadley. He has suffered a few very serious injuries, but they arent as potentially debilitating as a knee reco for example. Will take some time, and will not be as good as he once was due to his age more than anything. I still see him playing another 3 years either on a forward or back flank.
Johnson - will play the rest of his career in the lion's forward line. Probably has about 2 years left.
Adcock - future captain.
Stiller - will be one of the best draft picks to come out of QLD by the time his career is up. Drummond will be similar.
Black, Power, Charman - will be career lions. All have claim to be in the top 30 players in the comp.
Roe - the reports a few months ago scared me a little bit as i see him as the anchor of our defence for the next decade. Seeing as though we gave him a second chance in the AFL, i would be filthy if he decided to leave this year.

UH OH! :(
if he wants to go then he's no good to us, look at his last 5 games, they arent taking us anywhere.
cant see why he cant put his charity on hold for a year or 2, he has his whole career post footy, i guess what more does he have to achieve in footy? cant blame him.
re: moody, if i had to pick 1 of our young players to "go home", he'd be it so i guess it could be worse.

yeh i was just doing players that are shakey atm, i doubt Brown or Hadley or Adock will be leaving any time soon :)

Vossy? Mal Michael? C. Scott? Allan? Moody?
Gone probably.
Bradshaw?
I think he'll stay but if he goes we will get good value for him so I would not be too cut up about it.
Rischa and Shermo?
No reason to suspect they won't be career Lions.
Aker?
Have no doubt he can play good football and for quite a few years but seems to be out of control and I'm not sure how the Bulldogs will react to that.
Big Beau?Brennan?Johnno? JMac? Corrie? Fixter?
I think they will be given another year, but they are all under the spotlight.
Garner?
I must admit I've had a bit of a turnaround on Garner. I watched an old NAB cup game and kept an eye out for him, and he did some good things. Leigh saying that they have enough KP stocks makes me think Garner is included in that.
I think he'll stay on the list and do well.
Clark?
Absolutely agree with Warwick. He is the one that I am desperate to keep on. He is a serious talent in my mind. All the players that have been mooted to leave I think the club can cover, or it was espected. But if we lost Clark I would be absolutely gutted.

That's a horrible abbreviation there, resulting in a horrible mental image. :(
I pretty much agree with everyone else's opinions. If Moody only wants a one year deal because he plans to leave after it, let him go sooner rather than later so we can hold on to someone committed to the club.

Edited Vossy's section. I really should re-read my posts after i submit them.
BTW, any news on Mal yet?

Aker - more i think about it the doggies dont need him and with tarrent now on the market (WLF) he will go somewhere... and if we have to have him on our list 100% NO WAY WILL HE PLAY
Mal - If he goes ill be sad... but if he doesnt wanna go let him
Vossy - I think he is gone and will be a St Kilda Assistant Coach until Leigh gives it away
JMac, Fixter - Give em another year not goin to be stars but can still hold up spots in a good side i think
Hadley - will never play in the midfield IMO with a dodgy knee expect him to play down bak especially if roe is still injured
Drummond/Adcock - Stars of our backline
Belgey- Unsure, could be a star could not, but he will only be an international rookie i suspect next year
C Scott - from what ive seen he will have to start the preseason from day 1 or he will be retired....... only way hed stay is if he thinks his fit enough and wont waive his contract

Can't believe that we'll have lost 4 triple premiership players in 12 months (Leppa and Aker are already GAWN, IMO Mal is gone and Vossy not far behind him).
Of course everybody retires eventually, in this case the surprise is in the timing. I bet 12 months ago NOBODY would've thought that they wouldn't be at the Lions in 2007.
There's always upsides though: salary cap relief, and we won't have to cut talented youngsters (Marcus Allan not included).
So were we premature in cutting Attard?

Aye, although that won't have done his confidence much good.
For some though, it might just be the motivation required to kick on.
When 2007 comes around, we'll have lost Vossy, Aker, Mal, Leppa, Scotty of the B-variety.....can't imagine what that's going to be like. Plenty of painful rebuilding on the cards I'd say...

Yeah we really haven't done badly at all when it comes to late smokeys in drafts. Adcock, Sherman, Rischitelli were all later selections who look to be 10 year players. Stiller and Roe were rookies even.
Imagine had our picks on Brennan and Spaanderman come good....well, Brennan still might.
