View Full Version : Allies Match

By the sounds of it a few of the Allies firmed up their positions in this match. Dzufer showed he could play in the midfield and would have to be a very solid third rounder at worst. Bird also did himself a lot of favours and jumped himself into the third round. Kiel probably assured himself of getting picked and Magin might get a few looks that weren't coming his way before although still not likely to get picked this year.

Tippett is solid now at the top of the second and Djerkurra should also get into the second.

Brisbane might needed a few trade picks if they want to take some of these guys now.

It wasn't much of a match but it was the Allies team that stood up and showed how much better they were than the guys the scouts see day in day out.

Did Southport's Jesse White get much ground time, Quigley?

Great to see my old teammate Dzufer being up there in the best on ground. From what I've read, he tore about the Vic's midfield. Hopefully he is still around when we use our pick 35.

Wasn't he playing for Suncoast Lions when he was like 16?

Jake Furfaro (ex Brisbane Lions rookie/Mt Gravatt) plays at the VFL club I am involved with in a support role and he said Dzufer is just an absolute freak.

Corrosion, which AFLQ club do you play for?

Yeah, he got picked up in the Suncoast Lions team as a 16 year old. He could kick the ball 50m+ when we played the under 16's together. I'm a year older than him and Chris Smith, so I played with them every second year.

I also played with Lucy every year from 1998 to 2004. I use to catch lifts with him when we joined the Brisbane league.

I played for the Caloundra Panthers. Two Premiership and two runner-ups. :D

Did you play for Coloundra this year again or was that just your junior club?

I see they are in State Association Division Two, what's the standard like compared to state league division one?

I am interested in maybe moving up to Queensland to work for an AFLQ club and am thinking that Southport would pay the best, am I right in saying this?

I'm a football analyst/statistician part-time at the moment and have just completed my second season in the VFL after two years at VAFA level including an under19 premiership in 2003 and 4 senior games in 2004.

Nah, I've stopped playing football at the moment. I finished up in 2004. I'm seriously considering returning to play for Maroochy/Northshore in the AFLQ second division, but I'm not sure.

What I really want to do is work for AFLQ up on the Sunshine Coast, as a development worker. Go around to all the schools and preach the game, and whatnot.

And yes, I think Southport would pay the best. They're a really strong club with a large supporter base. And not to mention, Southport are an amazing football side, too. :thumbsu:

True about Southport being an amazing football side, I got AFLQ to send me a copy of the Division One Grand Final record in the mail and have been studying it since it arrived a few days ago.

The record they have is amazing.

I'm studying at the moment and am only 21, but if I was in the right financial situation/was prepared to transfer for my course I would head up there to Queensland straight.

As discussed in other thread, a few division two clubs are advertising players in Inside Football at the moment. Surfers Paradise looks impressive and although the pay there wouldn't be the best, the lifestyle would be just awesome based on the research I have done.

Surfers Paradise have only been in the Pineapple Hotel Cup for two years now after being promoted in 2005.

Whilst it is true that they made the preliminary final this season, they literally limped into the finals in eighth by winning only 5 games during the regular season (plus one draw). Amazingly they defeated Burliegh (defending premiers) and then Wilston Grange in the finals to make the preliminary final against Wests who beat them by 4 goals before winning the flag by about 8 goals.

The club is also going through a major redevelopement to their facilities. The redevelopement is overdue, but will see them probably have the second best facilities on the Coast (after Southport) with a new gym included.

The senior team has quite a few ex-Broadbeach players running around, and probably just need a few good youngsters to stick around. In the past it seems that any good young players have ended up at Southport pretty quickly after graduating as Surfers Paradise juniors. Daniel Merrett is one, and a kid names James Mulligan left Surfers last season to play at Southport this season.

The junior club is generally very strong and is really one of the only clubs on the Coast who can even entertain matching it with Southport or Broadbeach.

You could certainly do worse than end up there is you are a decent player.

James Cook is still scaring the **** out of players, not just the opposition players either.

Cooky is at about twice his AFL playing weight and throws it around. Nevertheless he is a great bloke and seems to be enjoying his footy.

Tate Duku (who used to be named Tate Day at the Lions) is also playing and they have some good kids who will be eligible to be drafted in the next few years, headed by an onballer by the name of Elliot Bath who played reserve grade this year despite being only 15. He may have even played a seior game or two.

As a club they have seemed to struggle to take the next step after being runners up a few years back, they seem to run about midfield now.

Do you have a role at Broadbeach CTD or are you just a fan?

Just a fan of the Cats. Really mostly a fan of Gold Coast footy, enjoy watching some of the older guys like James Cook, David Round, Mark Roberts (a few years back at Cooly) and Jason Mooney (retired now from Broady)etc going around in their latter years.

It will be interesting next season at Labrador, with their senior coaching job opening up. I believe that both Brad Scott and Justin Peckett may be in the running, which will have to attract others to the club. If they could get their juniors up and running (shambles at the moment) then the club might be able to improve on the whole which would be awesome for footy here.

By the way toddy, awesome effort in the GF by the Western Magpies. I thought that Noosa would be a tough assignment in the final, but they were very good.:thumbsu:

Wow big news surely if one of those coachd theyd be enticed to pull on theboots too!?!?! I think we will see some good young Vic talent move up here as the quality improves. And thanks the guys were awesome with our side i knew that if we were close at half time the run would get us up. I just hope i can finally crack the senior side next year!

So you play in the twos, you too then would be happy as well.

Great story in the GF Record on Michael Thompson. Have seen him play a couple of games down here, thought he had a blinder against Burleigh earlier in the season. Must be an inspiration to play with.

Do the players really call him 'clock' as I reckon that is one of the funniest nicknames I have heard for a while if it is true. Hope he doesn't mind it.:thumbsu:

Yeah nickname is absolutely true, not sure how and when he got it but whoever came up with it deserves a pat on the back. Hes a great bloke and he has been good ths year (including 4 goals and bog GF game) but we dont really make anything of his situation as he prefers it like that but id hate to play on him, he would pants me no doubt!

Im hoping AFLQ taped the game because i will never see the ball as much as i did, not to mention getting the seniors game which was very good to watch.

Saw him take a few great marks overhead, amazing the control he has. Also his handball skills are freakish.

The footy record quoted him as saying that he was born with the disability. As I said before, he is a true inspiration.

For those not in the know, Clock apparently comes from the fact that he has one arm shorter than the other. Just like a clock!! We have probably confused a few here during our chat;)

I wasnt aware he was born with it until i read that myself before our game!! There are some good nickames down at our club Chris Garner (brother of Pat from the Lons) is a genious when it comes to that i wouldnt be suprised to find it was his handy work. He did come up with Minibus for our reserves coach (as in meaning half a coach, i think respectfully was not taken past the trip away from which it began).
