He wants out.

The jouno who wrote the article about him stated that he wants out and wants to join Hawthorn.
The jouno also used the term Thornton has "privately" said this.
We should tell Bret very publically that we are going to trade him and should we not be able to do this to our satisfaction he can enter the PSD and take his chances.

ps: also tell him not to bother asking to train with Hawthorn as this will be refused. In time he will have to live with the "private" regret of having left our great club as we will win a flag again before Hawthorn.

Depends who you believe. Other articles say he wants to stay.

As for us winning a flag before Hawthorn, there is no basis for that statement. The Hawks are rebuilding the right way and are miles in front of us. Only bad luck will stop them winning a flag before us as we are still a long way away.

There goes a shadow, quick jump!!!

Actions speak louder than words and so far nothing has been done. There are conflicting reports at the moment, with the club coming stating they expect him to stay, so perhaps just settle down and see what pans out.

I really don't take any of these media fabrications seriously. The journo's purpose is to write a "story" that creates a headline designed to boost circulation. Facts aren't a priority. I only take notice of what Thornton himself says. :)

Why don't we wait until Friday in the trade week to see what really eventuates. If he doesn't want to play with Carlton, then let him go. Get the best deal we can from Hawthorn and then move on. With this years draft, i'd be more than happy to take Hawthorns second round pick.

They won't give up pick 6. If they could get a late first rounder from everit maybe we could get picks 14 and 24 for Thornton.

I'd give Thornton the option of a two year, 300K contract or a three year, 270K contract. He doesnt accept, he gets traded. My opnion.

I personally think he will get more money and stay at carlton.
If we did get him though i would be happy to give up our 2nd round pick. Doubt he will leave though.

He is only 22 years old.
If he stays injury free he has the potential to be a 250+ game player in his career.
If we are stupid enough to let him go or trade him well....I don't know.

We will more then likely offer our second round pick plus a fringe player. Rumour is Simon Taylor as he is a ruck.

PASS. NO players- you arent unloading your trash on us. Picks only- late first round pick and mid second round pick will do. Otherwise we trade with another club, whether you or Thornton like that. That is, if he even leaves (which is doubtful).

****coff.

A second round pick is an insult for Thornton.

Package that pick with the Everitt pick to get us a higher pick and we'll talk.

Pick 14-20.

If sydney gave us their 1st round pick for everitt (which i highly doubt they would) i would give that up for thornton.

No way i would be trading pick 6 for him though.

If we get him for the right price then good. If we dont get him then i am not too fussed. Not sure he is the answer to our defensive problems.

The journo who wrote that article was full of crap. The numbers quoted were ridiculous. $150K per year? Bull****!!!! How can you believe anything else he wrote when he so obviously and willfully got this wrong?

The disappointing thing about this whole saga though is the fact that we, as the bottom placed club with first pick in the PSD, are are having other clubs trying to poach our players. It should be the other way around (and hopefully is). We should be talking to out of contract players at other clubs and using our 1st pick in the PSD as leverage to get players. Play this game the Hawks are playing. Offering them a better contract and either bring them over or get their club to pay more than what they hoped to. This should not be happening to us.

I do hope the club is playing this game and it is simply that we have not heard anything in the media. The other scenario is that the board and club is so distracted at the moment they have forgotten to do this.

I like that option.

Hopefully he signs, b/c without him, we'll be in more trouble - if possible.

The internet is a part of the media, as for the Carlton web page being accurate their in a bit of trouble at the moment as head management are in two minds. For example the sacking of the coach and interveiwing the assistant coach before head coach had even be sacked. That board supply the information that goes on that carlton web page. So just at the moment that web page is just as accurate as the media. Give it time, they'll figure out.

As for thorton leaving carlton honestly who knows, i doubt either club be sure on the thorton deal @ the moment. Its all theroy and don't go getting upset with speculation as it is just that time of the year where everyone likes to dream about getting the next under 18 star and picking up a bargain during the trade.

Carltons been there before when theyve been on top and anther teams been on the botton. Very club trys to get a bragain through trade and draft.

Honest what awards has thorton won to make him worth a round 1 draft pick? Is he an all australian?, won a brownlow medal? Won a premiership medal?, been best on ground on gran final day?, been an out and out proven star at fb?

If he decided to leave carlton id offer you the 1st round pick we hope to recieved from the swans for everitt. Remember you're recieving this based on a few service able games and the 2006 draft is supose to be a super draft!

I thinks that more than fair, but this is just a offer you dont have to accept. Go see what his trade value is with other club. Like you say worst case is if he wish to leave and you don't get what you want, you can always lose all that hard work to the PSD for nothing.

Either way im not stressed, good luck blues

We can't just put our head in the sand claiming everything is a press rumour:D

Thornton is obviously seriously considering a move as Fev confirmed, by deploring the Carlton offer compared to the Hawks one to T-Bird.

We need to stop living in the past and get a grip. We are now due to various reasons the team that people least want to play for:thumbsd:

This means we have to pay over market value to retain or attract players. Saying a player isn't worth this or that just won't cut it as we just can't compare what a player on our list will accept to one of the premiership contenders or a team seriously on the up. Players will take paycuts in the hope of playing in a premiership. What do we have to offer?

We are not a fun club to play for. Our older players especially look mentally shot. It is a miracle we got as close as we did in so many games and hardly ever gave up trying. To me that shows they have a good bond with eachother. That is what we need to emphasise in contract negotiations:thumbsu:

None of this loyalty to the Carlton football club as it doesn't deserve it at the moment. Mateship is our only ace in the hole, although we have cut an awful lot of their mates for not much improvement during these troubled times:thumbsd:

Just as an aside it is a bit of a worry that Fev is commenting on these issues. He reckoned we should go for Gardiner and now a comment on T-Birds contract. Please don't let him become an Aker:D

Thornton has just signed with Carlton...

Thats the words you are dying to hear but I don't think this will happen until late into trade week.

I can't see him going however Carlton seriously need to get their act together and secure the clubs best young talent.

As for people reckoning Carlton a better Premiership hope then Hawthorn...bahahahha.

I agree. I don't know why we didin't sign some players up earlier, like Simpson as he is untradeable.

We couldn't because of the changes to the Total Player Payments allocation. Players and their agents knew it was coming so delayed their contract negotiations. The agents also know we are over a barrel

We aren't the only club with a lot of players still unsigned, yet most of the speculation revolves around us because of our situation:thumbsd:

The board with some of their comments have left us with a big target painted on our backs:(
