Now that AAPT has pulled out of its sponsorship, has anybody heard anything about who the new sponsor might be?

Not only will the 2007 calendar need to be redone, but the guernsey and other gear as well (with new sponsorship details).

Another big merchandise sale from the shop coming soon...

I should've checked the portal at the top of this page first.

On checking the Vodafone site, there is a media release
http://www.vodafone.com.au/docs/7761721.pdf

Vodafone Australia has signed a three-year, multi-million dollar sponsorship deal to become the major, naming rights sponsor of the Brisbane Lions AFL team, effective from 2007.

The contract will join the stable of other major Vodafone AFL sponsorships including Port Adelaide, the West Coast Eagles and the Triple M AFL national commentary team.

Vodafone General Manager for Queensland and Northern Territory Cameron Levick said the deal reinforced Vodafone’s domination of AFL teams.

“Vodafone has supported AFL in other Australian cities for 10 years and it’s Brisbane’s turn now. AFL grips this city every weekend, regardless of where we sit on the ladder,” Cameron said.

“Support for AFL has grown at an incredible rate in Brisbane, to the point where the Lions are the number one sporting brand in Brisbane. We’re excited about the deal and looking forward to bringing the deal to life
for our customers.

“Our core objective in partnering with the Lions is to bring AFL to life through the Vodafone network – whether that’s on a handset or at the game, we will deliver an amazing Vodafone Brisbane Lions experience
to AFL fans.”

The naming rights sponsorship package will combine hospitality and branding assets as well as money can’t buy experiences for Vodafone customers through its customer loyalty reward program, Delight.

The sponsorship deal is effective as of 1 November 2006.

Although I loathe to talk to much about off-field stuff this is great news. IIRC we made a loss this year but this shows we are still a true 'powerhouse' club, off the field anyway and i'm happy to show faith in the club that they are going the right way in getting us back to the top on it. Forget rebuilding and 5 year plans...I want to win.
