WENT TO RIDDELL

Because my Riddell sources are useless (sorry you two), I decided to head down to the Bombers' training tonight to have a squiz for myself and get some information.

Although he was not there, Leigh Coles is a confirmed signing, he is a gun Keilor Park (EDFL) player, captained the club for the last four years too.

At 31, he is no spring chicken, but will be very handy. Didn't see him so can't comment on whether he will dominate or not.

One player I did see was champion Sunbury Lions ruckman/forward Tim Little in training.

He has signed at Tatura, but I believe they were flogged in a praccy on the weekend ... perhaps consistent defeats and training at Riddell could lure him to lodge a clearance to the Bombers before July 1.

Spoke to the prez and chairman of selectors, both good fellas.

CAN CONFIRM THIS RUMOUR

Lee James will barely play half a season at Mulwala, due to a new job at a prison (I think Barwon but not sure).

Perhaps he will be enticed back.

Talk is the ground is not far off, with just a little it should be ready by round 3.
As for Little, tatura is a bit far for a tuesday training seasion, does anybody really think Sunbury lions would let him train there after leaving?

matt_nicholls
28 Mar 2007, 09:57
1. The Riddell ground was looking okay. Green in 60% of the playing field, but they can only water it twice a week.

Will play Whittlesea this Saturday in a practice match, I would bring runners and boots.

Boots for midfielders, runners for forwards and defenders.

2. Tim Little is an exceptional bloke and the money he is getting at Tatura would be huge. However, strange things happen in footy and if his new side doesn't perform, he may be enticed by his training mates to join Bombers if they are 7-2 at the halfway mark.

3. As for you Coughlan, I'm assuming you're taking the piss. I can't recall seeing anyone with a Melbourne guernsey on, but doesn't mean there wasn't. Your BF profile says you barrack for Brisbane Lions, and there was a bloke wearing one of their jumpers at training, I'm guessing that might have been you.

4. The exclusive story about the RDFL I told you all about was (see next post).

Huge deal for RDFL

by Matt Nicholls

THE Riddell District Football League has struck a deal with the National Australia Bank in what looms to be the competition’s most lucrative sponsorship arrangement ever.
The deal is expected to be worth around $50,000 to the RDFL over two years, according to league general manager Scott McCartney.
Not only will the sponsorship be beneficial to the league, it will also assist clubs, players and families tied to the RDFL.
In the proposed deal, parents of RDFL junior players who register for a home loan, or switch their home loan to the NAB, will receive a football package totalling $150 for each child.
For every RDFL player who does the same, they will receive a worthwhile package from sporting goods supplier Skins.
Under the deal, clubs that have 10 or more people taking out or switching to an NAB home loan, the team receives a brand new line of football guernseys.
For example, if Romsey Football Club had its president, coach, captain and seven other members take out or switch to an NAB home loan, the Redbacks would receive brand new footy jumpers paid for by the bank.

Hi Matt,

Deal sounds great on paper, but if you were to change home loans from say the Commonwealth to the NAB the customer would be up for somewhere between $1000 and $2000 as a buy out penalty - all for $150 football package to my children?????

No doubt has something to do with the new GM's brother Tim who happens to work for the NAB. Im sure he had a big role in getting this over the line.

I dont think the deal would be for everybody. I work in the finance sector and yes your right some people woudl not be able to take part because of of people who sign a contract for a fixed rate, but I still think it has merits for people who are first homebuyers, or are not hit with a early buy out penalty.

All in all I think its a great step for teh league to align themselves with a major Australian company and great the a company like the NAB to back community sport. Kids get something, clubs get something, league gets something.

Well done to all involved I Say

got to be joking.the only winner in a deal like this is the nab bank.
should i transfer to the nab it would cost thousands.then the nab would charge you app.fees etc. etc. etc.
not knocking the league for trying new things, but how bout sponsorship from the bank.even first home buyers can get a much better deal than the nab elsewhere.i know people will disagree with me on this topic, but

BREAKING NEWS

Press release: Matt Nicholls played for Romsey yesterday against Wallan. After enjoying a three-quarter stint, the man affectionately known as Pickles is expected to lodge a clearance to the Redbacks.

While Nicholls is obviously in two minds about leaving Lancefield, the lure of big money at Romsey is too much to knock back.

More news to follow ...

Yes Romsey were to good for us. You boys did get off to a slow start in the first quarter but once you got your running game going you looked pretty good. I was very impressed with the full forward number 18 I think his name was Morgan. Has very good hands.

patchy game. diggers came to play and showed they have worked hard over summer and kicked the first 6 sausages.
after that it was a game of few highlights and the final margin was about 45 points. quite even after quarter time.
burra fielded a pretty strong side probably only missing chewy and matty walker from best 22. speaking to al after game who said heethcote were disappointing but had half a dozen to come in including a bloke (can't remember his name but played at kyneton) who kicked 100+ for them last year. diggers moved the ball well though

Know nothing but to me it's common sense to head back, the difference in league fees alone wouldnt be as demanding prior to budgets on the playing list. Would be good for the RDFL too I reckon.

Didnt see the entire game and cant say I noticed Dave if he played (no offence Dave) but Linton was his usual self floating across half back.

Mixed feelings shouldnt cum into it, whats in the past should stay there. It should be about whats best for ya comp and I reckon with the work Sharpey has done in getting the RDFL back up and running and the way the new bloke seems set on carrying it on then it wouldnt be a bad thing

Wallan

Although Trentham are no good, they should return to the RDFL. It will only help the club bounce back and help recruit players. No one from Melbourne will play in the MCDFL but will play in the RDFL.

Rockbank may always be uncompetitive, but they are good to have in the competition, that area will only grow, which should see more players head to the Rams.

Wallan should be welcomed back with open arms to the league, and I'm sure after two or three eyars they would be serious contenders. It's the fastest growing town out of Melbourne.

Big problem with these games is the risk of injury, would your club let your best 4 players take the risk, this is the reason why afl scrapped state of origin.
I think it is a great idea myself, no point picking the team of the year if they cant play anyone. It also rewards the players.
Another big problem is Competition, who do you play? plenty of comps out there but do they want to play interleague, no point playing a comp that we will smash or who will smash us, Do they already have a league they play? Can the league afford to play, always costs involved.
The interleague was abandoned for a couple of these reasons, but i think now this comp is in a position to try it again.
Players that have played at the highest level could be ineligable

Any one looking for something to do tomorrow night if you're in the Seymour area a reminder that we (Broadford) are having a practice match against Sunbury Kangaroos at Kings Park.

Game will kick off at 7.45 with the SFNC having their bar in operation.

Like Sunbury we'll have a few missing but really looking forward to the hit out and see how we go against one of he sides I hear will be right in the finals mix in 2007. Thanks to Al Meldrum our boys will be wearing Heathcote FC jumpers to avoid a jumper clash :thumbsu:

Thanks again to Gavin and his club for accepting our invitation, maybe there are some seats on the bus if anyone's interested, maybe one of the Sunbury guys can post details.

No Bus Donna! However couple of spare seats are available if people want to jump in!

Very young line up tomorrow night the Roos are taking! Would have to be up there with the youngest side fielded by the club!

Ins: Welsh, Baddely, T.Ellis, R.Ellis

Outs:Sporle, M.McInnerney, L.McInerney, G.Plogg, J.Plogg

Looking forward to the hitout....Donna make sure your boys have beer on ice after the game!!!!

Doona, i assume you know the area well, being easter thursday, which way should we drive, down the hume to the first exit, or coming from sunbury straight through lancefeild and towards tooborac or something like that, traffic could be hectic

I'd go the lancefield/Romsey/Kilmore/Broadford way get then you will only get the easter traffic from broady to seymour, its usually a pretty cruisey drive...

Hey all. Matt Nicholls is it true the Keenan Brothers are playing in Romsey this year? I played with older crackers a few years ago and by all reports was treated ordinary at his last club Rupertswood. Great pick up if this is the case.

One of them played and dominated on the weekend. Not sure of his first name though. Weird hairstyle though!

The mail is they are both playing but haven't seen clearances lodged as yet.

I was in a hurry IMS... Didn't realise that this was a spelling contest! Perhaps there are other area's you should be focusing on rather than pottting club mates!!!!

And blues, i don't know if it was intended but that was a good play on words for someone like you! But rather far from the truth if that was your intention!

Was merely stating that 3 weeks out from the season, our outs will show how much we have improveded over the summer, and have become not so dependent on half a dozen blokes! Rather the work load shared amongst 20-30 blokes!

One big stand at the minute must say, Blue that your moving pretty good!
You reminded me of one Port Player! Domenic Cassisi!

yeah both Rob and Dave are playing.... They both work at the aquatic centre with Matt Mac! Both fair players and very similar in playing styles, both quick, and good skills! Good pick up for Romsey!

We have pretty similar sides, but I wouldn't have Connellan at FF! Good resting ruckman in the forward line but Morgan is a much better FF.

I'd love to see the McInerney's carve up the wings in a senior grand final at Lancefield. However, they are so valuable to the Roos on the ball.

( Sunbury / Lancefield / Tooborac / Seymour ) is the way i would travel, all quiet roads from Lancefield to Tooborac to Seymour, great scenery to (2 km difference between each route) so 6 to one half a dozen to the other, good luck either way sure use will get there.

The Roos will have 6-7 players missing, but have enough to cover the losses.. Should be a great game to watch.
