where do you honestly think brisbane will finish? i think if brown dominates for 22 games they could really finish as high as 5th but if he has ANOTHER injury season they could finish as low as 12th all i really want brisbane to do next season is to beat collingwood, essendon, geelong and carlton and i will be :D

It's pretty hard to make an educated guess when (it seems) the future of half our team is still up in the air.
I'll try to take a stab after the trading period.

yeah fair point.it would be good to see brisbane busy in trade week for good reasons of course lol i really hope they can get some good players or draft picks during trade week :D
I think that next year that the lions are really going to strugle, but it will also come down to what happens with bradshaw, vossy, michael etc.(i thnk bradshaw will stay, michael will retire). If michael does retire it will really hurt brisbane they will strugle to contain teams, as they will not have much structure down back. The midfield wont be a problem but might be inconsistent, due to a lot of young player. The forward line could go either way, as it all depends on one J Brown, if he plays every game then they may push for the eight, but if he is out half the season i would expect brissy to be a bottom three side.

Agreed, with an inexperienced defense, I expect there to be big scores kicked against us in some games. The important thing is for the kids to learn the game and to gel together. Much of our premiership success was from having a very stable back six who knew each other's play well.

Same as this year.
I can't see much changing.
Depends on the critical injuries and their management. We need to get on top of OP training regimes, with Brown and Clark.
If Nige and Brownie have injury free seasons, we look better.
If we lose Beau, we could struggle ruck wise, if we have injuries.

Agree with Campbells assessment.
Really can't see a finals campaign, & if we have injuries to key personnel a lean year ahead.

I think losing mal and vossy and possible mcgrath and mabye moody will place us outside the 8 possible 10th or 11th (only if brown plays 18 or more games).
I dont think we will go backwards.
Agree with most of the posts...it's all about injuries. I get the funny feeling that there will be no Kokoda trip this year.:p

If we lose Mal, Voss,Moody,McGarth,Copeland and Beau.
Then thats an awful lot of experience on top of Leppa and Keating and Scott going.
We have said we can't aford to draft experience, so no joy there.

There better friggen not be.Let alone a fast pace half the normal duration one.
Silly idea that was IMO.
Maybe they can have the group hug bonding trip on a BBQ boat trip on the Bay.Bit of fishing, lots of grog and food.No women.

The upside of losing all these players through trading is getting very good picks in the superdraft and adding those players to our already impressive young list, a force not to mess with in a few years!

Yeah, but young ens are a gamble, not matter how good they are.
They may be No 1 and a Dud.ie Des.
A lot is expected of the youngens nowadays. They have young developing bodies, which can cause injuries with the increased workloads expected of them.
We have to remember, a lot of our newbies will be 18yr old interstaters, leaving home for the 1st time.A lot of adjusting to do for them.New state, new home, new surroundings at the club.Increased expectations. No family, no friends.
We can't expect a lot of the superdraft kids next season.

You would think though that the expectations would be a lot less going to Brisbane than other clubs. Fair point though , it's a problem with every draft and every club faces it and I agree these 18 years old are not going to solve our problems. Youngen's are a gamble, but there a gamble you have to take.

And with the game changing quickly (although some will debate this point) it is a good time to be getting an influx of new players. We are in a better position to recruit players that are more suited to the modern game, ie. they can run, run and run.

As I said in another thread, sounds like Moody is staying. Quote from his manager saying the deal is almost complete.

I thought he wanted to stay on for a year or 2 then leave to Western Australia or something.
If so trade him now.
My two cents - I think we are looking 8-10 with everyone fit. We are in big trouble though if we have anywhere near the injuries of the last couple of years. If would probably only take a few key injuries (Brown, Black, Power, Bradshaw) for us to be considering who we should take number 1 next year.
We have some good young players but they are not ready to carry the team yet. They are looking very promising and with a good crop from the superdraft we might be back challenging more quickly than teams like Hawthorn expect but I don't think it will be next year. I think the pressure is really on the recruitment staff this year as we are likely to have quite a few picks this year. If they are used well we would be a good chance to rebound quickly if they aren't we could be languishing down the bottom half for years to come.
Bottom three again - you can't lose so many top players and expect anything else.
Bottom three again - you can't lose so many top players and expect anything else.
But we had so many good players who didn't play much at all in 2006. For example, we'll have Lappin back, and while nobody can replace Voss, his leadership and presence, Lappin is a midfield general in his own right.
Keating we decided to cut because we figured he wasn't in our long term plans. Rucks with Charman, Woody and Beau should be ok.
Aker was another member of the famed Fab Four, but he didn't play for us after the Kangaroos game. We played out the rest of the season without him, and we looked pretty ordinary, not winning many (if at all?).
The biggest losses were our FB and CHB. Never easy to replace these key positions, especially when both go in the same year. We'll struggle here. Many think that Chris Johnson should be played in a forward pocket, but if he's fully fit, a back pocket wouldn't be a bad option either, as he provides so much experience and poise, as well as dash out of the back half. Either Drummond or Adcock can move into the flanks or the midfield.

Me too, But, coming from the point where he was out the door and playing with Freo two weeks ago to his manager saying the contract is almost signed..... This just demonstrates my point about people jumping at shadows regarding rumours of player movements. I'd guess that at least 95% of the time the player ends of resigning with his current club. And I'd much rather believe actual quotes in a newspaper article as opposed to the scaremongering and insinuation we normally get.
It's amazing what another year of playing senior footy might do for Moods, he might step up and start to feel ownership of the team and decide to be a Lion for life. And unless Freo take a huge dive, he won't be able to walk to them in the PSD, so after a year he does want to be traded it's no different to trading him this year really.
Agree with all that TFB. The only worry though is that if he walks after 12 months, then we would think "geez, we could've used that 12 months to develop another bloke instead".

True but you would think we would get a better trade if he has 1 more year experience!

Aye, if 2008 is supposed a weak draft, we could potentially get a 1st rounder from Freo (they're likely to finish near the top again).
Having said that, we're rebuilding, and ideally anybody who won't help us in our long term goal should be moved on. I'm not saying though for one minute that Lappin, Johnson etc should go - they're needed for their experience to help our young side.

By "Des", I suppose you mean Des Headland.
If so, rating him a dud (whlie he was with us) is a bit harsh methinks.
Sure, it took him a while to develop but he did play some excellent footy, especially in 2002.

Yeah I suppose. But have a look at the Freo board, he is underacheiving for them, and their fans are really frustrated with him.
For a No1 draft pick,I think he should have delivered more over his career.
