I think that the major weakness of Australia's ODI team is the lack of a gun all-rounder. South Africa has Pollock, Kallis and Klusener (when he's in form) and New Zealand have a gun all-rounder in Cairns and a valuable all-rounder in Harris. Australia's allrounders seem to offer little with bat and ball and seem to crumble under pressure. I think our best ODI all-rounder is Shane Lee. I understand that he has been injured for a large part of the season but I think we should get him back into the side for the ODI's against South Africa.

Andrew Symonds.

Can bowl off spin or medium pace. Can bat anywhere from 3-9 and do a good job, whether defending, pacing out or smash-and-dash. Can also field both in close & the outfield, with lightning quick pace and a deadly arm.

For mine, Symonds 1st, daylight 2nd.

Ian Harvey.

His bowlings up there with al the full time bowlers around. His change of pace and bowling at the death of an innings is just great.

Sure, he had a poor summer with the bat, but over in England he put on some nice contributions, especially his matchwinner along with Steve Waugh againt the pakis i think it was.

Solid Fielder also.

James Hopes of Queensland should probably be in that list as well his definatly got some potential.

Ian Harvey is the best all-rounder in my opinion.

Not only is he a Victorian, he is a gun bowler with great variety and ability to bowl at the death, his fielding is good and although his batting has been down, he has never been allowed to play his natural game in my opinion. When he has, (like the game he hit the 3 sixes in a row against Zimbabwe in early 2001 at WACCA) he has made valuable runs at a quick rate for Australia.

Symonds batting record is abysmall.

Can fail anywhere between 3 and 9 I agree.

Harvey as he is probably our 2nd best ODI bowler (particularly at the death). Just needs to be given a few games in a row to get up his confidence.

What happened to Shane Lee? - he is more economical bowler than his brother & a better batsman.

As a batting all-rounder, Symonds batting form was woefull. They can't keep him in just for his fielding.

Can't really comment much on Watson or Marsh as they haven't played in a ODI yet. Watson looks a good prospect though.

Shane Lee's had a knee injury this year, Kane. I think he should be the all-rounder when fit, his batting is good, he's not as flashy as Symonds, but he's just as hard a hitter and more consistent. His bowling is solid rather the penetrative and he's Ok in the field. He's the best of the choices we have now. I don't know about Watson because I haven't seen him at this level yet.
