View Full Version : What will we get for Kingsley?

With trade week a mere 7 days away I was wondering what people thought we would get for Kingsley (and anyone else that may be traded for that matter)? I am hoping for a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick but that is probably a little optimistic. A player for player trade may be better for us?

We will only get a dud player for him. Best to get a pick. Hopefully a third rounder.

A can of coke and a mars bar!.....but seriously, he is a forward who is capable of kicking 50 goals in a season. He is very quick off the mark, a real team oriented player and would be a terrific forward if he could mark the ball with his arms out rather than relying on marking on his chest. Saying that, he gets the kicking yips more than often, and been a confidence player, if he doesnt start off strong in a game he may as well not be on the park. Maybe a third rounder for him, I think he will be a real benefit to a club that moves the ball quickly and has the midfielders that can hit him on the chest time after time...just where he likes it!

I think probably a late 3rd rounder to early 4th rounder would probably be the go. A fringe player from another club may also suffice.

thats a bit harsh, i dont think his problem is getting the ball so i wouldnt be worried how he marks them i think his kicking his problem, if he kicked like lloyd he would be a 80 goal forward not a 50 goal forward. He would probably suit adelaides rotational forward line, he's a good 2nd-3rd tall.

He will be delisted so there will be no trade.

No club would have traded a pick anyway as this draft is too good.

At best I reckon he'll go PSD.

He is out of contract now so as he is not continuing at the club of course he is off the web site. I think we could maybe get a 3rd or 4th round pick. But I kinda feel he will end up going through to the draft, which means we will get nothing.

Yeah, can't we not trade him because his out of contract... we don't "own" him?

Of course we can trade him, it is just if we dont he has no ties to Geelong and he can walk.

I think you will find untill list are submitted he is still our player to trade if he is agreeable. He can use us to get to a club ( say Freo) rather than another (say Richmond). If no agreement is reached he can nominate fro the Pre-season.

The thing to remember is if we trade him for a very late pick , we can tie up our strategy , having to use this pick. eg. If we trade him to Freo for their Round4 pick we would have to use a pick in the late 60's. This is fine if we are going to pick a player that we are confident others clubs will not but it can be restricting.

Id say we would be happy with Freo's R3 pick considering we got Gamble with P47 and this years is supposed to be so much better.

Firstly, Gamble althought showing some ok signs, hasnt done anything yet so the jury is still out on whether the will be a good pickup in the draft or not and secondly, would it be better to package Kent with somethign sweet to get something even sweeter in return?

I dont disagree Nana , Gamble has no runs on the board yet but the signs are good , and more promising than some others that have been on our list longer and taken with earlier picks for that matter.

I watched U18 GF the other day and considering these two side were not the ones with bigger names in their sides , boy a couple kids were impressive!

Oakliegh who won had a few kids that took my eye. David MacKay and Nathan Batsanis would be handy on most teams list id say. Really liked Batsanis ,got over 35 possesions and kept pushing the ball forward to the advantage of the forwards with a nice penetraiting kicks all he though was not adverse to kicking a goal himself.I liked the we he moved , like he was oiled, turn either way and had kicking action most AFL players would love to have. MacKay too showed enough midfield nous to think he could be a very handy mid. They had a couple interesting talls too. A kid called Otten , a medium type with a nice spring and good hands, another called Jarrod Ried who also could take a nice grab and another Todd Goldstien , a 200cm kid who we could do a lot worse with on he Rookie list.

Calder too had some kids worth of consideration. Jarrod Allen could be the type of player that in year with less tall talent would be rated far higher. I believe he was the U18 TAC CHF and one can see why , considering H has been around so long I wonder how good this kid could be with 5 year in the system. Their captain Andrew Horne could be another who would be a handy Rookie , maybe a bit small but a quickish type with a bit of attitude. One of the best kids , Maric , is not even eligble this year. Only 16 and kicking 5 or 6 goals in a GF is good effort.

And these were only two teams in one state. My point here is that there is a lot of talent out there and considering we mostly would like to top up with pacy mids , one might expect the kids to be pressing for games far sooner than the talls we drafted of recent years. A late pick this year might not be so bad for KK. Id say 5 picks under 50 would bag us some great additions to our list. Of course the earlier the better but its the late pick where guys like Welles earn their money and this year is a year he must get right IMO.

Contracts run until October, so Kingsley is still our property until then. If no trade is reached, then he's a free man to walk to the draft.

Ive got abit of money on him at big odds for the rising star. So im hoping he comes through next year in a big way.

Now for Kent, really depends on how bad someone wants him. Remember we did get a second round pick (Enright) for Micky Mansfield.
He could still kick 70 goals in a team with good disposal. It may sound selfish, but though I wish him all the best, I hope he doesn't come out with 60 - 80 goals and rub our noses in it.

Yeah, I was harsh on Gamble but what I am suggesting is the higher the pick we get the more likely we get a better player. No point pawning Kent off for pick 40 if it means a kid who spends 3 years on the list doing nothing to get the chop. With the exception of Egan and Enright our picks past 40 havent been overly flash.

Best to get the highest pick we can even if it meant Kent and our 3rd round for their second round.

Im pretty sure the webpage developers dont dictate our delistings.

Sure he's been taken off - thats because he wont be at the club next yr, but we will trade him - not just let him go for nothing.

Think we may just get a slight upgrade on a pick, similar to when we picked up Kent, which from memory was Pick 42 to Nth. and Pick 45 and Kent in return.
