Just spoke with a good friend who heard some gossip on SEN today. Schwarze or his offsider mentioned that Tarrant might consider moving out of Melbourne to an interstae club.
WA & Qld was mentioned.
Not sure if we could fit him into our cap anyways. it be ironic in a way if he did come. His good mate is Mal Michael.
Food for thought.
Overrrated hack.
Send him to WA, SA or a penal colony on Mars.
Anywhere but here.:thumbsd:
The penal colony on Mars are in the hunt for quite a few recruits this season!
Can we trade a few of ours for their First rounder?:D
This has been thrown around in the media and on the boards. ie. Aker for Tarrant, Bradshaw for Tarrant, Darren Lockyer for Tarrant:p.
IMO, Aker for Tarrant, purely hypothetically (since we all know he wants to go the bulldogs), and even though he is majorly overrated by C'wood supporters, wouldn't be that bad a trade for Brisbane.Let's face it, we will never get a player or pick of equal value for Aker. People talk about him going to the Dogs or Bulldogs because they need key forwards. The silly thing about this is that Tarrant is NOT a good full forward, let alone a main target up front. He is fit, runs all day and would do better on the wing or on a half back flank or even centre half back.
Now, cut me down and tell me how bad Tarrant is. *snuka braces himself*:o

Hmmmm....now you've got me thinking.
What with the expansion policy of the AFL, how many decades (or centuries) will it be before the AFL GF will be fought out between Moonbase 1 and Mars?
If both teams had to play at the G, the travel factor would be hoooooorrendous:eek:

I agree Snuka, he would be a good player up the field as well.

It's interesting isn't it? On one hand we've supposedly got salary cap issues if Aka stays, but on the other hand we're looking to take on a Tarrant in his place. They get the best of both worlds!

...and Akermanis Jr XXXIV (taken under the now rarely used F/S 30 generations removed) rule has requested to be traded to Moonbase 1.
As usual The Lions are playing hard ball and demanding a young yet to be proven recruit by the name of Judd Jnr XXXIV as a compensation.

Yeah, I guess your right, I was stupid...Tarrant is an overrated hack who is too much trouble and...huh, what, you agree with me?!
Seriously, I think he could do allright, he's not going to solve any clubs forward problems, but he could be used as a tall running back man or winger.
Even if Tarrant was a performer on the field (which he is not) would you want him in the clubhouse with a young team? The guy is a clown off the field and is notorious for not giving a toss about team rules. That is without the alcohol issues. They took Pykey on and it worked out great but he was coming into a veteran team and if he didn't work out it probably wouldn't have made a huge difference.
Here's my regard of Tarrant - if we had the choice of Tarrant or Kingsley I would be barracking for Kingsley. He would probably also cost you less than half.

Tarrant is an over rated player who can't kick, can't handle pressure, goes missing, is over paid and has off field issues.
However if he comes to the Lions he is a super athlete, a good strong mark, provides valuable experience, is difficult to match up on, has the potential to be a gun, and will go a long way to fixing our half forward problems.

I've never seen a player that can consistently underperform week after week, year after year and still command so much esteem.
Face it, he's crap.

Haa haa. I am not as anti Tarrant coming to the Lions as most of you are to be honest. The gold fish bowl life in Melbourne may not be much to Tarrants liking. You never know a year or two away from the prying Melbourne media may do him the world of good plus the expectations of the magpie army may be another factor. I have alway felt that the forward line structure of Collingwood did not suit him anyway. He has been forced wide a hell of a lot of his career. Imagine say Danny FF, Browny CHF with maybe Tarrent and Clark as tall forward flankers with McGrath/Hooper/Harding as the smalls. I reckon it would be a good forward line and should kick plenty.

I can see where your coming from & actually agree with you.
Get him out of the spotlight of Melbourne (& Collingwood) & Tarrant may play a bit more consistent football. Would need to behave & become a positive influence on the younger guys (debateable if thats possible).
I heard Mick Malthouse interviewed & they will listen to offers. He also stated that Tarrant was still unsure as to where his future may lie.
It still think its unlikely though for 2 reasons:
- Collingwood overrate their own (just like their supporters do) & are the worse club to trade with.
- We may struggle to fit him in the Cap
If it came to a decision between the two I would far prefer Daniel Bradshaw. To be honest I think Collingwood would see him as a more realistic swap, than Aker.
I pretty much disagree with you all here regards Chris Tarrant. Yes, he is over rated, has never lived up to his early potential, but and it is a huge BUT, and the but is this - (think about it before you all bag me) - he has been at Collingwood for what, 7 years ? and has played 161 games for the Pies, kicked 299 goals at an average of 1.9 per game. Daniel Bradshaw, who we all want to keep, has played 181 games, kicked 363 goals at an average of 2 per game - not alot more than Tarrant.
Yes, Bradders has been played in defence alot, but all the same, has probably played forward more often, and has always been taken by the Number 2 and 3 defender ( 3 in Lynch's time, and 2 in Brownie's time), where as Tarrant usually gets the No 1 defender when at full forward, which he isn't.
He has suffered badly from the fact that Collingwood has not had a first rate full forward since the days of Saverio Rocca. Tarrant IS NOT a full forward, never has been and never will be....and at Brisbane, behind Jon Brown and Dan Bradshaw, he would get the No 3 defender, and maybe even No 4 if two men go to Brown.
Think about what I have said, yes, I know no one on here rates him, but don't rate him as a full forward, but a half forward flanker, maybe in the Martin Pike mode and I truly believe you would be very surprised about how well Tarrant would fit into the Lions.
Yes, off field is a worry, but the guy is only 24 and you would like to think that one day he will grow up, become a man and not a boy, and I think Brisbane could do alot worse than trade for him.
It would also release Brennan from being a half forward, add to our forward line if Bradshaw had to go back in defence and ease the strain on Brownie, who we all know is having problems getting through a full season.
Be open minded, put the bias away for a moment and then tell me that he is no use to this team.

I thought I was being open minded. That is good analysis by you. I would still rather sign Danny up for the rest of his career though and not have Tarrant. Danny should be at his peak for the next 2 to 3 years. But if we could have both I would not be complaining.
That is exactly right. I wrote my thoughts with having Bradshaw on the field as well, making Tarrant the No 3 forward and would add alot of potency to the Lions forward line.
Even Kingsley would be a bonus if Tarrant wasnt available, and whilst KK comes with alot of baggage, he would again be the third forward, and anyone who has kicked 237 goals (average same as Tarrant 1.9) would be a useful addition to what is essentially and young and inexperienced team.

Now your pushing it too far Glyndon.
Please no KK.
I am not a Kingsley fan at all, but if Brisbane were to look at him in the Pre Season draft and get him for next to nothing, tell me what would be a better option for a one season contract when we need someone who can possibly kick goals. Remembering that we might not have Brownie all season.
The worst that can happen is KK have another poor season and be delisted. Brisbane wouldnt have to pay him a great deal and he is only 27.
I know, not everyone's favourite player, but be honest, what have they got to lose ?
I still think our major problem is getting quality ball to the forwards we have. If Brown, Clark, Bradshaw, and Charman (while resting in attack) can play the majority of the year, we are fine up forward. Bradshaw just got tripled teamed while Brown was out. Pick up some fast midfielders who can deliver lace-out 8 times out of 10 and we will be fine. A fit Lappin and Drummond will make a huge difference.
Another problem we had during the second half of the year was the lack of leading forwards. Bradshaw had to stay at home and no-one else wanted to lead up and provide a target. That must be fixed next year (the one thing Tarrant does very well is lead up the ground). I also got sick of seeing the ball go sailing over our heads, or bouncing in front of our forwards. Lots of skill work is required in the pre-season.
In summary, load up on fast, skillfull midfielders, and pray that J. Brown stays injury free.
Remembering that we might not have Brownie all season.
That's close to a bannable offence. Positive thoughts only when it comes to Brown please.
Positive thoughts or not, we have to be realistic here....and his past couple of seasons do not suggest 22 games from the champ next season. Stay fit and we are capable of matching it with almost anyone.

What gives you the impression Brown would be missing for the full season?

The PSD is going to interesting next season.
With potentially 90 picks in the upcoming draft, there will be a lot of clubless players floating about. Some would likely have quite a bit of AFL experience.
Strong rumours KK will end up at the Tiges, but like all probably should take with a grain of salt.

No, I am not even suggesting he will miss any matches, certainly not the full season. Just meant that his past couple of seasons, due to injuries would suggest that we wont get the full 22 matches from him.

A very good post apart from being over defensive:thumbsu:

In particular read post 4.
Sorry, just being a forum nazi but I agree with most of what you said. Although if we had to chose one out of Bradshaw & Tarrant, I know who i'd pick but I don't think we're in that situation. At the right price, Tarrant would be a good pick up IMO.

JOHN BF isn't the worse.
Should listen to our 24hr sport station SEN, very entertaining.
You can go to their site & pick it up.
Actually a good idea for any Lion fans not down here during trade week, if they want to keep up with the latest.

I have found it. Do they talk footy in the evening?
