i think geelong are good value for the flag in 07, alot of people bag you guys, but at full strength and firing they are easily a top 4 team.
with a spine like this
Hawkins
Mooney
G.Ablett
Harley
Scarlett
thats pretty good, could rival the adelaide and west coast spine
Adelaide:
Welsh
Bock
Goodwin
Stevens
Rutten
West Coast
Lynch
Hansen
Cousins
Hunter
Glass

Gee Hawkins holding down FF in a senior AFL team after coming from the Junior's. Probably should only expect 80-90 goals from him in his first year.

He's a big boy no doubt but he's going to take time, maybe he can crack a few games in his first year. Riewoldt is a champion player but if I had one criticism of Grant Thomas it's that he threw some of those kids to the wolves too young and too often before they had really developed. I wonder at the longevity of players like Ball.

We are a chance if the club and the supporters have learnt from past mistakes. You can not win a flag with a forward line consisting of Playfair, Kingsley, Gardiner or McCarthy. Those 4 have to be shown the door immediately. With Mooney, N Ablett, Hawkins, Ottens and hopefully the aquisition of either Bradshaw of Tarrant the duds may never have to wear a geelong jumper again. The defence is great in the key areas however a little bit more run of the half back line would be great. Maybe Prismall, Tenace, Gamble or Hunt could provide this next year. Also a little bit of pace and skill added to the midfield would be great. Bartel, Corey, G Ablett are the guns with Rooke the best defensive option available. I doubt wether both Ling and Rooke should play in the same side, so I would try and move Ling on. Enright, Wocjinski and Byrnes may get past by due to poor disposal.
Hopefully after the season we have had we don't just sit back and say all will be better next year.
Make some hard decisions please.

You can't get rid of all four in one year IMO. Playfair should stay.

So he can play CHB in the VFL on some hack from North Ballarat.
He is a dud and always will be.
I would rather see Grima or Sam Hunt get a run next year than Playfair.

Keep Playfair ahead of others like Koula etc who should be cut first.
You can't cut them all in one year.
i would keep Henry for another year. he seemed beeter suited to the backline though

good response, i agree not expecting a brownlow / 80 goal year but history suggest top 5 picks ( and he is rated as one ) generally fit straight into a senior team. cosidering our best forward kicked 35 goals think he is worth the punt at ff.

He has a man's body that's been playing on boys, I believe he will at least have to run around in the magoo's for a while to see how he goes with the bigger bodies before he progresses to standing next to the likes of Mal Michael.
If he kicks 10 in his first 2 games then yeah give him a dip and see how he goes but you can't build your game plan around a kid that's never played at that level.

I don't think bush hacks goes along with AFL affiliated VFL clubs. Remember a lot of guys have gone back to the two's to pick up form and/or that their feeder club is going to be in the finals.
Big H has shown some form on occasion, we can't have Ablett's, in every bloody position. Give the guy a break.
I am beginning to really wonder about people on this site, is it whinge for whinging stakes or what ??
We can't have a team full of champions. Salary cap won't allow it, neither can it happen. If we get rid of half the guys you've stated we won't have a team next year. Where are we going to pick up their replacements ? In the draft, we don't have enough picks. In the pre-season dud meat market draft ?? Hey lets pick up Woewodin to go along with our slow midfield.
Get rid of Ling ?? Are you kidding. Sure his disposal hasn't been that great this year, well OK it has been crap, but he just had a bad year. He will learn from that and hopefully put the big ones in next year. One bad season doesn't mean that he should be shown the door.
We can't just get rid of 6-7 guys, especially with Kent already going and Riccardi retiring. We also will not have Lonergan for quite sometime, so get rid of another 4-5 and we cannot put a good first or second team on the park next year.

i agree fully about getting rid of ling. for every 30 kicks he gets 20 of them will be stupid little 15 metre passes in the back pockett. he is to slow and this is part of the reason our midfield has been shelacked on a number of occasions by teams like hawthorn for example. because we have to many tall slow midfielders like ling who cant keep up with the pace.

As much as Ling had less than his greatest year this year, do you really think Ling would want to play for anyone else? Ling's the kind of guy that would subject himself to a massive pre-season, without being pushed by coaches, to be better next year. I just don't reckon that he's someone that GFC would wanna get rid of, nor do I think that Ling would want to get himself into a position of being potentially booted from the club.
Essentially, thinking of getting rid of Ling is just something that would never happen.

AND, as much as Chris Judd is an absolute legend, he rarely kicks long. Most of his kicks are well aimed chips, so let's get some perspective - decent player in a mediocre overall team this year = perceived under-achiever. I'm not saying he's a legend, but the potential is there. Think of how he shut down Scotty West in the second GFC v Bulldogs game this year as an example....

Honestly, **** off of our board and I don't know, have something relevant to say for once. I don't know what your problem is with Geelong supporters, but you are really giving me the ****s and you don't need to grace us with your pathetic whines about how crap Geelong is and how the supporters are arrogant ********s. Maybe you're little mates down at the train station are, but what can you expect from pathetic people that hang out with people like you. Get a life Drivel.

Yep, when Ling got back to doing what he does best, in tagging the best opposition midfielder, he was much better. Ling is not an attacking midfield option, and should never be used as one. His huge motor allows him to run with players all day.

what about the hawk supporters calling lance franklin a god LOL, the kid seriously isnt gonna be that good.

Essentially, thinking of getting rid of Ling is just something that would never happen.
How often do we hear that in the preseason that Ling has trained the house down, is looking fully fit and ready for a great season etc, etc. Get to the serious stuff, and here's Ling scouting the back of packs looking for cheap touches and 85% of his possessions are little 20m chips sideways.
Blind Freddy could've seen the fact Ling played the entire last quarter against the Eagles in the midfield when they came back from nowhere to beat us caused us to lose. IIRC he was playing on Embley, and I think about 70% or maybe more of the Eagles clearances in the last quarter were either from Embley or set up by Embley. I know this isn't entirely Ling's fault and that Bomber should've moved him, but it's obvious that he is more of a liability than an asset in the midfield nowadays. Rooke has overtaken Ling as our best defensive midfielder, and D.Johnson is close to becoming our second best defensive midfielder. If I was Bomber, I'd put Ling either in the FP or trade him.
