News in this afternoon that Jason Laycock has signed a 2 year deal with the Bombers.

Annoying because I really wanted him at Carlton. Who should we focus on now? SURELY not Gardiner...*GULP*

Stay well away from Gardiner. IMO, we should take Renouf or Tippett in the draft. We'll just have to use a combination of McLaren/Bryan/DeLuca for a couple of years until one of them develops.

I'd rather look at Polak in the PSD than Gardiner, he could start across CHB, then pinch-hit in the ruck as needed.

Yeah, it's an interesting one. I would've liked to grab ahold of the big unit in Laycock. Giving the Dons a couple of our duds would work for us nicely and screw them up even more, which is nice to see them suffer!!! hehehe:D

Marcus Drum, Riley Dunne- Freo , Rosa - WC. All on the fringe and about to grow into men.

All nice young types from Vic.

Would any one know if they are out of contract and be keen to head home ?

I'd rather these likely types than an Essendon no hoper.

Cheers.

I know this will probably seem silly but worth a mention. If Spida Everitt doesn't get picked up during trade week, there is a big possibility that he will nominate for the PSD. Is he worth a look? I know he doesn't fit our youth policy but he might be a quick fix until a younger ruckman develops in the Bullants.

Thoughts?

Laycock is ordinary, and very very slow. Glad Essendon re-signed him. :)

Can't wait for the PSD!

Is the PSD going to be another fizzer?

Take the best kid if he impresses on the training track and shows something we didn't see in the under 18s or at the draft camp.

Laycock is a dud , someone mentioned Marcus Drum, I reckon he still have a year to run on his contract but what I saw in juniors , a good player of the future

Not a bad call lassy! Why not grab a young one and say to him right you have two years, here is your training routine and your going to play in the VFL seniors regardless of form. He then gains some confidence and plays well and develops. In the meantime our crisis is solved with Everitt playing out his last two years with us. Not bad at all. I still think Gardiner would be better we would get 3-4 out of him and look the guy has been disgraced and yes he has had some troubles but he genuinely looks remourseful and his form for Claremont after the drunk behind the wheel incident has been fantastic. Good enough to warrant a lifeline IMO

I don't know why people were getting so excited by laycock anyway.

Can't see us picking up a ruckman from another club next week, but ya never know.

One of Renouf/Tippett/Goldstein in the draft
Gardner = psd1 (if polak not available)

Delist 2 of Deluca/Bryan/McLaren. They are never going to be any good at afl level. One of these with Gardner is the plan for the next 3-5 yrs while the new draftee develops. Hopefully adding Kruzer in next years draft with pick 5-10.

That gives Gardner/Renouf or Tippett/Kruezer/Batson/A Ohailpan as future ruck possibilities, depending on development.

Cheers

Didnt they tell A Ohailpan that his services were no longer required?

Havnt heard that, where did you hear that... reliable source?
My latest news from the club was he will serve out his last remaining yr as an international rookie and is devolping very well!!

Gardnier isnt a full time ruckmen anymore, more of a pinch hit ruckmen/foward - carlton would be best to stay away!
Layock is slow, immobile and not even a good player in a equally as bad side - why would we want that?

No no not reliable, as i dont know what the source was. I was either a passing comment or buried in an article i was reading and I took attention because the name Ohailpin was mentioned... could be totally wrong i was just seeking clarification.

Well, anyone who has watched this guy play, knows his strengths and weaknesses. His strengths are his good pack marking and decent ruck skills. But his major shortcoming is slowness. He is very very slow. Something that was noted in the draft camp, and prevents him from being effective on the lead. While he has the ability to take a good contested mark in the forward 50, his poor mobility costs on the rebound. Not sure if this guy is suited to the modern game. Essendon don't have many options though. Compare him to Setanta for example. Same size, but could you imagine Laycock going for one of those blistering trademark Setanta run's through the midfield?. Laycock is more of a younger version of Knobel. :)

If you look at him as a ruckman (which in my opinion, is purely why Essendon re-signed him) then he is a good back up for Hille while Ryder is still developing in the twos.

If you look at him as a forward, then you can't argue that (when injury free) he hasn't been a good target for us. He can take a mark, and kicks the footy well. He may be slow, unfortunately a lot of 200cm tall men are, but he makes up for it in other areas of his game.

Essendon have enough tall options forward anyway in Lloyd, Lucas and Johns so my guess is he'll play mainly as a backup ruckman.

The guy still has a lot to learn. I just hope he can get a decent run with injuries for a change.

Spida want's to play finals in his last 2 years of footy.
